Jill Stalbert, a retired cook for the Sisters of the Holy Family, died Friday of cancer at Lafon Nursing Home. She was 52. Ms. Stalbert was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include her companion, Jimmie Ward; four brothers, Billy, Paul, Johnny and Jack Stalbert; two stepbrothers, Anthony and Marcel Edwards; and two sisters, Hattie and Peggy Stalbert. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Epiphany Catholic Church, 1949 Duels St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park Cemetery. D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

REED, JOHN JR.

John Reed Jr., a retired truck driver, died Monday of a heart attack at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 52. Mr. Reed was born in New Orleans and lived in Avondale for 32 years. He graduated from Carver High School. He was the head deacon at Holy Ghost Temple. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia L. Reed; a stepdaughter, Tamika I. Davis; his mother, Dorothy L. Reed; his grandmother, Janie Thompson; four brothers, Alfred, Larry, Sandford and Steve Reed; three sisters, Joann P. Bolds, Janice R. Jamison and Charlene R. James. A funeral will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 West Bank Expressway, Marrero. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Green Street Cemetery.

PARKER, EDDIE LEE

Eddie Lee Parker, a retired laborer, died Tuesday of complications from pneumonia at Lakeland Medical Center. He was 76. Mr. Parker was born in Vossburg, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for the past 56 years. He was a former security guard for Gold Star. He was a member of the Construction and General Labor Union Local No. 689 AFL-CIO and Master Mason of Globe Lodge No. 66. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Parker; four sons, Ralph and Eddie Parker Jr. and Darell and Keith Carter; four daughters, Valinda Buxton, Cynthia Barnes and Samantha and Gail Carter; a stepdaughter, Anita Whitfield; a brother, L.D. Parker; four sisters, Armruth White, Mammie H. Smith, Lula Mae Walker and Carrie Jones; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home, 1615 St. Philip St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

PERIQUE, ALBERTINE S.

Albertine S. Perique, a homemaker, died Monday at Meadowcrest Hospital. She was 78. Mrs. Perique was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include seven sons, Walter Umrani and George, Raymond, Jerry, Steve, Vincent and Kent Perique; seven daughters, Alma Harris, Jannie Robinson, Harriett Singleton, Kay Lloyd, China Hills, Albertine Smothers and Zina Mullin; a brother, Jack Shelby; a sister, Lucille Hollis; and 44 grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Gaskin-Southall Gordon and Gordon, 1225 N. Rampart St. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in Green Street Cemetery.

PALAO, CHARLES

Charles Palao, a sheet metal mechanic at Hussman Corp., died Sunday of pancreatic cancer at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was 74. He was born in New Orleans and was a resident of Slidell for the past 38 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include a sister, Louise Palao. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

MONK, ELTON GEORGE

Elton George Monk, a retired electronic technician in the radio department of South Central Bell, died Wednesday at his home. He was 76. Mr. Monk was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for 58 years. He served in the Navy in World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6640. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Monk Wolf of Loranger; two stepsons, John A. and Gregory N. Meyer; a stepdaughter; Rhonda M. Miller; three brothers, Charles D., Donald R., and Mark P. Monk; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at L.A. Muhleisen and Son, 2929 Metairie Road, Metairie. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

MEHL, ROBERT W.

Robert W. Mehl, a retired self-employed brick mason, died Tuesday of lung cancer at his home. He was 74. Mr. Mehl was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and lived in Louisiana for 40 years. He served in the Navy. He was a member of St. Rose Baptist Church and American Legion Post 0258 in Springfield, La. Survivors include a son, Robert L. Mehl of Pensacola, Fla.; four daughters, Ann Nelson of St. Amant, Ellen Rebowe of St. Rose, Janice Kaliszeski of Belle Chasse and Debra Rodriguez of Atlanta; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Baptist Church, 627 St. Rose Ave., St. Rose. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 to 10 a.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

MAIENFISCH, IDA CHETTA

Ida Chetta Maienfisch, a retired case worker for the Louisiana Office of Family Services, died Monday at Physicians Hospital. She was 81. Ms. Maienfisch was born in Brackenridge, Pa., and lived in New Orleans for the past 46 years. Survivors include a son, Jon Long; two daughters, Cheri Deringer and June Kramer; two sisters, Florence Hesselgesser and Ruth Young; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Pennsylvania. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LEWIS, JOHN BENJAMIN ‘JOHNNY'

John Benjamin "Johnny" Lewis, a retired nursing assistant, died Monday of a heart attack at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Lewis was born in New Orleans and lived in New York City for many years before returning to New Orleans. He lettered in track and field, baseball and swimming at New York High School. He was a parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Gloria B. Lewis; three sons, Clinton, Mark and Robin Lewis; two daughters, Lubertha Edwards Hess and Dessadra Millet Marshall; a brother, Barry Lewis of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Carol Lewis of California; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 4700 Pineda St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum.

LAWSON, ROGER LEE SR.

Roger Lee Lawson Sr., a self-employed disc jockey and owner of Rockin' Bob Lounge, died Sunday of heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 57. Mr. Lawson was born in Utica, Miss., and lived in Marrero for 35 years. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Lawson; a son, Roger Lee Lawson Jr.; two daughters, Bridget Ann Nicole Lawson and Shannon Danell Lawson; three brothers, Percy Lawson, George Lawson and Tommie Lawson; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, 1131 Garden Road, Marrero. Dismissal will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at White Oak Methodist Baptist Church, Carpenter, Miss. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Davis Mortuary Service handled arrangements.

Roland Johnson, a retired letter carrier, died May 30 of an aneurysm at Kenner Regional Medical Center. He was 68. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a member of New Home Full Gospel Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Washington Johnson; two sons, Timothy and Ronnie Johnson; two daughters, Gwendolyn Hunter and Barbara Johnson; two stepsons, Louis and Michael Joseph Washington, both of Washington, D.C.; two stepdaughters, Mary Mason and Patricia Lewis; a sister, Willie Mae Young White; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at New Home Full Gospel Baptist Church, 4429 S. Claiborne Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Estelle J. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HAND, PETER A.

Peter A. Hand, a retired lieutenant with the New Orleans Police Department, died Tuesday of cancer at his home. He was 68. Mr. Hand was born in New Orleans and lived in Terrytown for the past 33 years. He served with the Police Department for 33 years. He was state president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, president of the Police Pension Board, treasurer of the New Orleans Police Mutual and Benevolent Association, past president of the Louisiana State Lodge and Crescent City Lodge No. 2 of the Fraternal Order of Police, and past president of the Police and Firemen's Holy Name Society. He also served on the board of directors of the Friends of St. Alphonsus, was a member of St. Patrick Church's parish council and was awarded the St. Louis Medallion by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. He also was a member of the board of the Irish Channel St. Patrick's Day Committee and served as the grand marshal of its 1985 parade. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Gaynelle Collins Hand; a son, Jeffrey J. Hand; three brothers, James L., Lawrence J. and Harold F. Hand; two sisters, Anna Gaudet and Sister Mary Joecile Hand, R.S.M.; and a grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 12:30 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 724 Camp St. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GROW, JOHN ‘DAD' SR.

John "Dad" Grow Sr., a retired farmhand, died Wednesday of injuries suffered in a tractor-train accident in Vacherie. He was 73. Mr. Grow born in Vacherie and lived in Wallace. Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Rousseve and Valerie Johnson; two sons, Thomas and John Grow Jr.; four brothers, Pierre, George, Aurelien and Lazin Grow; two sisters, Bernadine Bartholomew and Pearl Clark; and nine grandchildren. A Mass will be said Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Phillip Catholic Church in Vacherie. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Baloney Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
