Mary Free Barbati
(June 2, 1945 - January 25, 2013)

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. A retired Center Supervisor at BREC's Jackson Park, Mary Free Barbati died January 25, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake. She was 67 years old and a resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary on Monday, January 28, 2013 from 5pm until 9pm with a 7pm Rosary. and on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Baton Rouge from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10am conducted by Fr. Frank Bass. Burial will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bobby J. Barbati. Daughters, Melissa Godso and husband, Del and Aimee Bourgeois and husband, Joshua. Grandchildren, Colby Godso, Kaia Bourgeois, Ada Bourgeois and Lyla Bourgeois. She is preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Michael Godso, parents, Leon and Josephine Free and a brother, George Free. Pallbearers will be Colby Godso, Keith Barbati, Jason Free, Jimmy Reno, Brandon Lewis, Neal Hawkins, and Shaun Godso. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Greenlee and Rafe Cupit. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Special thanks to Lane ICU, Fr. Sam Maranto and to Dr. Raven and all who cared for her in MICU at OLOL. Memorial contributions in memory of her grandson Caleb Michael Godso, may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis,TN 38105-1905, account number 644928.

Marie A. Bitner
(February 4, 1929 - January 27, 2013)

A resident of Zachary, she died January 27, 2013. She was 83 years old and was retired from Albemarle Corporation. Visiting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary from 5pm until 8pm. She is survived by her children, Roxanne Crum and husband, Dan, Regina Poole and Marc Bitner. 5 grandchildren, Anissa Bergeron, Alecia Berry, William Poole, Maggie Poole and Kelley Bitner. 3 great grandchildren, Ella Bergeron, Colin Bergeron, Tucker Berry. She is preceded in death by a son, Budd Kelley, a son in law, John Poole, Jr., parents, William and Bula Baxter, and brother, William Joseph Baxter, Jr. Memorial donations may be made to Lane Nursing Home, Resident Activity Fund, 6300 Main Street, Zachary, LA 70791.

Evan Halston Vides
(May 24, 1991 - January 28, 2013)

Evan Halston Vides died on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the age of 21. He was a resident of Ethel and native of Baker. Visiting will all be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Clinton, on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Jim Gross. Burial will be at Plank Road Baptist Church Cemetery, Slaughter. He is survived by his father and mother, Julio A. and Shawn H. "Prissy" Vides, brother, Skyler Vides, maternal grandparents, Gerald and Irma Hubbard, aunts and uncles, "My Nanny" Penny Hubbard, Lisa and Jimmy Key, Bo and Kristy Hubbard, Matt and Natalie Hubbard, John and Lisa Hubbard, Stephen and Andrea Hubbard and Marco A. Vides, numerous cousins including his special cousins, MeMe and Dale Meredith and his buddy, "Luke". He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jose Antonio and Rosa Delia Vides, and maternal great grandparents, Van and Katie Evans, and Ruby and Floyd Hubbard. Pallbearers will be Skyler Vides, Dale Meredith, Jacob Davis, Trent Cox, Cody Donze, Hunter Jenkins, Brantley Newman, Sammy Chidester, Chance Vicellio, Derek Brown, Matt Day, Joshua Hubbard, Trey Hubbard and Aramis Pepper. He was a 2009 graduate of Silliman Institute where he played football and baseball. He earned the Mason's Award and was voted most courteous from kindergarten through 12th grade. He loved playing the guitar and singing, fishing, bonfires with his friends, LSU Football and making people laugh. He always made people smile with his big beautiful smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is at peace with the Lord. "When tomorrow starts without me and I'm not here to see... If the sun should rise and find your eyes filled with tears for me. I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today...While thinking of the many things we didn't get to say. I know how much you love me, as much as I love you... And each time you think of me, I know you'll miss me too. When tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart...For every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart."

Joel Michael McRae "Mike"
(August 10, 1943 - January 24, 2013)
U.S. Veteran

A resident of Central, he died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. He was 69 years old and was retired from Vulcan Chemicals. He was a former employee of DCI and was a US Navy veteran. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitaton will continue on Friday, February 1, 2013 at The Rock Church, Zachary from 9:00 am until service time at 11:00am. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janis Rodriguez McRae, beloved son, Shawn Ratcliff, and son, Daniel Appling and daughter, Kelli Mallett. 11 grandchildren, including, Miklyn Ratcliff, Makenzie Ratcliff, Dalen Tidwell and Sunni Tidwell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Irene McRae. He was a devoted Boy Scout leader. He was a former Mason in Illinois.

Bernadotte Allen Phares
(September 21, 1914 - January 31, 2013)

Bernadotte Allen Phares died on Thursday, January 31, 2013. She was 98 years old, a resident of Clinton and a native of Leesville, LA. She was a retired elementary school teacher with the East Feliciana Parish School System. Visiting will all be at Feliciana Baptist Church in Clinton on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. Tony Hand and Dr. Wayne Barnes. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery in Clinton, LA. She is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law; John Allen Phares & wife Carolyn C. Phares of Gold Beach, Oregon and Donald Howard Phares & wife Elaine L. Phares of Clinton; 4 grandchildren, Shannon Phares, Angie Phares, Kathryn Antee and Mariah Blackwell; and 2 great grandchildren, John Toler Flash and Matt Blackwell. She is preceded in death by her husband, John T. Phares, and parents, Early Lee Allen & Johnnie Satcher Allen. Pallbearers will be Ken Antee, Jeff Allen, Marvin Holland, Don Kilbourne, Josh Phares and Kirwin Ross. Honorary pallbearers are Collin Andrews, Talmadge Bunch, George Cupit, James Cupit, George Hart and James Jenkins. She attended Sullens College and graduated from the Normal (Northwestern State University), loved to travel, was a talented pianist, an active Christian and served in numerous capacities in her church and community. Special thanks to Cindy Phares, Staff at Oakwood Village, and Lanore London and staff. Memorial donations may be made to World Hunger in Care of Feliciana Baptist Church, P.O. Lloyd Joseph Hebert III
(Died February 1, 2013)

Lloyd Joseph Hebert III died on Friday, February 1, 2013 at his home in Ethel. He was 51 and a native of Plaquemine. Visiting will be at Redwood Baptist Church, Hwy. 412 in Slaughter, on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Dr. Ron Aguillard. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Barbara "Babs" Brashier Hebert; step-daughter, Callie A. Kelly; father, Lloyd J. Hebert, Jr. of Plaquemine; and sisters, Patricia Massey and husband Tommy of Port Allen, and Trudy Simms and husband Terry of Plaquemine. Pallbearers will be Kurt Deshotel, Trey Broussard, Terry Simms, Robert Brashier, Tommy Brashier and Colt Brashier.

Malcolm Ray Cornette
(April 9, 1927 - October 14, 2012)
U.S. Veteran

A long time resident of Tunica, he died Oct. 14, 2012. He was 85 years old and was retired from James River Corporation. He was a long time cattlefarmer in the parish and served on the West Feliciana Parish School Board for 18 years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Visiting will be at Tunica United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 from 10am until service at 12pm conducted by his pastor and longtime friend, Rev. Michael Clark. Burial will be in the Wimbush Rogillio Cemetery, Tunica. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce Wilkinson Cornette. His children, David Cornette and wife, Monika, Mary Ellen Daniel and husband, Robert; and Kevin Cornette and wife Kellye. 8 grandchildren, Wesley Jones and wife, Ursula; David Ashton, Cornette Jr. and wife, Erin; Allison Peters, Adam Cornette, Brandon Daniel and wife, Nicole, Angela Butler and husband, Trampus, Jennifer Dawson and husband, Daniel and Stacey Thompson. 19 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Malcolm Kyle Cornette, granddaughter, Kimberly Cornette, parents, Droussant and Ellen Stafford Cornette, 5 brothers and 1 sister. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and Clay Hardouin, Herman Straughter and Garrett Shoemake. Honorary Pallbearers will be Russell Daniel, Billy Shoemake, Edward Scott, Freddie Guidroz, Johnny Bert Dixon, Robert Honeycutt, Gene Bush, Joe Lee Norwood and Al Hardouin. He attended Tunica United Methodist Church. Special thanks to his caregiver, Linda McGraw, Lane Regional ICU staff and Dr. Craig Walker and the entire staff at Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Houma and Zachary.
