GARDNER, COL. HOMER KIRK JR.
November 19, 2002

Retired Army Col. Homer Kirk Gardner Jr. died Monday at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 80. Mr. Gardner was born in Inverness, Miss., and lived in New Orleans for many years. He was head of engineering and development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Regional Research Lab. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Shady Oaks Golf Club. Survivors include his wife, Grace A. Rourke; a son, Kirk M. Gardner; a daughter, Patricia G. Walsh; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery No. 2.

MUMPHREY, ROBERT JAMES 'BOB'
November 15, 2002

Robert James "Bob" Mumphrey, a retired drafting technician, died Tuesday of heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 56. Mr. Mumphrey was born in Welcome and lived in Marrero. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Delgado Community College and the University of New Orleans. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and its male choir. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Celestine Mumphrey; a son Derric L. Mumphrey; his mother, Rosemary Batiste Mumphrey; and a brother, Ronald J. Mumphrey. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1219 Cohen St., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn cemetery, Avondale. Davis Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

PENOUILH, SHIRLEY P.
November 19, 2002

Shirley P. Penouilh, a retired employee of Louisiana Food and Nutrition Services, died Sunday of cancer at her home. She was 68. Ms. Penouilh was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 22 years. She was a parishioner of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church. Survivors include her companion, Raymond Lafevre; four sons, Val J., Steve A., Brad M. and Ken P. Penouilh; her mother, Jeanne L. Polkey; a brother, Emile J. Polkey; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Metairie cemetery.

BLAKEMAN, DONALD I.
November 19, 2002

Donald I. Blakeman, a retired certified boat captain for Halliburton Service, died Sunday of complications from emphysema at his home. He was 80. Mr. Blakeman was born in Morgan City and lived in Harahan for the past 53 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He graduated from Fortier High School. He retired from Halliburton after 29 years of service; he had won numerous safety awards. Survivors include his wife, Rita B. Blakeman; two sons, Donald T. Blakeman of Hahnville and Forrest J. Blakeman of St. Rose; a daughter, Beverly B. Casey of Metairie; a brother, Forrest "Junior" Blakeman of Harvey; and four grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2929 Metairie Road. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

CLARK, CAROLYN L.
November 15, 2002

Carolyn L. Clark, a retired child-care worker, died Nov. 7 of renal failure at UCSD Medical Center in San Diego. She was 60. Miss Clark was born in New Orleans and lived in San Diego for the past 17 years. She attended Booker T. Washington High School. Survivors include her companion, Milton B. Prater; two daughters, Bernadette and Arnella Clark; her mother, Bernice Clark; a brother, Charles Clark; two sisters, Vivian Johnson and Vernetta Clark; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Tilly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BERGERON, GEORGE
November 15, 2002

George Bergeron, a mechanic for K&A; Automotive, died Monday of heart failure at his home. He was 58. Mr. Bergeron was born in Arnaudville and lived in New Orleans for the past 37 years. He was a former employee of Charlie's Automotive and Ford Car Care. He was a parishioner of St. David's Catholic Church and a former parishioner of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Arnaudville. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Jean Bergeron; two sons, Troy and Russell Bergeron; three brothers, Milton and Raymond Bergeron and Alvin Strauss; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m., with Mass at 6 p.m., at St. David's Catholic Church, 5617 St. Claude Ave. in New Orleans. Burial will be in St. Catherine Catholic Church cemetery in Arnaudville. Cooper Glapion Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JOURDAIN, JOHN J.
November 15, 2002

John J. Jourdain, a retired theater employee, died Monday at Lutheran Nursing Home. He was 89. Mr. Jourdain was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He had worked for the Carver Theater. Survivors include a daughter, Madeleine J. Maurice; a sister, Elvera Jourdain Sceau; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Boissiere-Labat Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

November 26, 2002

Robert E. Murphy, a retired insurance agent for Marine Insurance Co., died Saturday at his home. He was 76. Mr. Murphy was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from St. Aloysius High School and attended Loyola University. He was a parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include five sisters, Helen M. deFuentes, Mary Lou Diasselliss, Sister Catherine Murphy, Dorothy M. Maurin and Jean Murphy. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Burial will be in All Saints Mausoleum.

LAMBERT, STANLEY JR.
November 19, 2002

Stanley Lambert Jr. died Sunday of renal failure at his home. He was 64. Mr. Lambert was born in New Orleans and lived in New Sarpy for the past 19 years. Survivors include a brother, William Lambert Sr., and six sisters, Gwendolyn White, Geraldine Cato, Evelyn Allen, Gladys Levy, Elaine White and Jocelyn Keys. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church, 3231 Audubon St. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park. Margaret Green Jones, a homemaker, died Nov. 19 at Lakeland Medical Center. She was 82. Mrs. Jones was born in Waterproof and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. She was a member of Fifth African Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Mid R. Jones; two sisters, Kelly T. Howard of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Jenny Thomas of Greenville, Miss.; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Fifth African Baptist Church, 174 Fourth St., St. Rose. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in St. Rose. Linda King Heriard, a homemaker, died Monday of cardiac arrest at Northshore Regional Medical Center. She was 54. Mrs. Heriard was born in New Orleans and lived in Slidell for the past 12 years. Survivors include a daughter, Anna Banks of Biloxi, Miss.; a brother, Louis J. King Jr.; a sister, Desire K. Drenning; and five grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 3808 Pontchartrain Drive, Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.

Maurice Francis Durel Sr., a retired automobile painter, died Sunday at Metropolitan Hospice. He was 90. Mr. Durel was born in New Orleans and lived in Kenner for the past 20 years. Survivors include a son, Maurice Francis Durel Jr.; a daughter, Jacqueline Durel Cobb; a sister, Audrey Morel; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.

TURNER, CECILE GRACIANETTE GRAFF
November 17, 2002

Cecile Gracianette Graff Turner, a homemaker, died Thursday at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 82. Mrs. Turner was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include her husband, Meaher Patrick Turner; two sons, Patrick Meaher Turner and Timothy Thomas Turner; two daughters, Charlotte Wightman and Sheila Paretti Williams; two brothers, Albert and Peter Gracianette; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Maria Goretti Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd. Visitation will begin at noon. Burial will be in St. Vincent DePaul Mausoleum, 1322 Louisa St. Jacob Schoen & Son is handling arrangements.

BAHAM, ALVIN GAYLON
November 19, 2002

Alvin Gaylon Baham, a retired lawyer, died Friday of brain cancer at his home. He was 72. Mr. Baham was born in New Orleans and lived in Gretna. He graduated from Louisiana State University and Loyola University Law School. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the 159th Fighter Group of the Louisiana Air National Guard. He was listed in "Who's Who of American Trial Lawyers." Survivors include his wife, Marlyn Rhea Baham; three sons, Alvin, Ivy and Gaylon Baham; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 West Bank Expressway, Harvey. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in St. Dominic Catholic Church cemetery in Husser.

ROSS, PURDELLIA 'DEDDIE'
November 17, 2002

Purdellia "Deddie" Ross, a licensed practical nurse at Ferncrest Manor Nursing Home, died Friday of breast cancer at her home. She was 48. Mrs. Ross was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from Carver Senior High School and Sidney Collier Technical Institute. Survivors include her husband, Stewart Ross; two daughters, Boydellia Baham and Johnell Augustine; her father, John Session; her stepfather, John Burkhalter of Marksville; six brothers, John, Michael, Farian, Kenneth, Keith and Irvin Session; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Majestic Mortuary, 1833 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. Burial will be private.

COOPER, ANNA MELITO
November 26, 2002

Anna Melito Cooper, a retired employee of the Louisiana Department of Vital Statistics, died Thursday at Mary Joseph Residence. She was 83. Mrs. Cooper was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from Sophie B. Wright High School and Soulé Business College. She was a parishioner of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Cooper Tafaro; a sister, Antoinette Melito Camet; and two grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 11 a.m. at Mary Joseph Residence, 4201 Woodland Drive, Algiers. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park. All Faiths Funeral Home handled arrangements.
