TYSON, DWAYNE M.

Dwayne M. Tyson, a former inventory clerk for Sears warehouse, died Friday of undetermined causes at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 35. Mr. Tyson was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Rabouin High School. He was an Air Force veteran. Survivors include his father, Jerry Tyson; his mother, Dorothy Tyson; a sister, Jivonna Tyson; and his grandmother, Kezia Johnson. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

CROWELL, ADOLPH H.

Adolph H. Crowell, a retired employee of Jax Brewery, died Tuesday of complications from surgery at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 84. Mr. Crowell was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 45 years. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was a deacon at Williams Boulevard Baptist Church for 17 years and was a mason for 55 years. Survivors include his wife, Madilyn D. Crowell; two daughters, Barbara C. Sweet and Juanita C. Suggs; a sister, Ruth Johnson of Squim, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Saturday at noon at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park cemetery.

HIRLING, CHARLES FREDERICH SR.

Charles Frederich Hirling Sr., a retired employee of the Port of New Orleans, died Thursday of Alzheimer's disease at Chateau Living Center. He was 90. Mr. Hirling was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Robinson Hirling; a son, Charles Frederich Hirling Jr.; a daughter, Kathleen Hirling O'Neil; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A Mass will be said today at noon at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul No. 2 cemetery.

BELONGA, KEVIN JERONE

Kevin Jerone Belonga, a part-time custodian and security guard, died Sept. 16 of undetermined causes at his home. He was 27. Mr. Belonga was born in Los Angeles and lived in New Orleans for the past 26 years. He attended St. Augustine High School, graduated from Word of Faith Academy and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. He was a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Survivors include his father, Isaac J. Belonga; his mother, Jeanmarie B. Belonga; a brother, Kenneth Belonga; and his grandparents, Maire Jones and Celestine Belonga. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 7300 Crowder Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Tilly's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SHAVERS, THOMAS CHARLES

Thomas Charles Shavers, a retired laborer, died Monday at Crescent City Healthcare. He was 79. Mr. Shavers was born in Mississippi and lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years. He was a deacon at St. Peter Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Marcus Campbell; two daughters, Dianne Sanders and Deidra McVeal; and two grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church, 3035 Broadway. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Holt cemetery. Littlejohn's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MARX, BERYL HYLAND

Beryl Hyland Marx, a retired beautician and manicurist, died Tuesday of a heart attack at Kenner Regional Hospital. She was 74. Mrs. Marx was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 36 years. She graduated from McMain High School. She was a member of Protocol Inc. Survivors include a son, Peter A. Marx; a daughter, Paula Marx Krekel; and a grandchild. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Metairie cemetery at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be today from 7 to 10 p.m. and Monday beginning at 9 a.m.

PEQUENO, CARLOS

Carlos Pequeno, a crane operator for International Marine Terminals, died Friday of heart failure at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 48. Mr. Pequeno was born in Havana, Cuba, and lived in Marrero. He was a member of West Bank Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife, Wendy Crenshaw Pequeno; a stepson, Ezra Enfinger Jr.; a stepdaughter, Robin Green; his mother, Rosa Diaz Pequeno; a brother, Jose Pequeno; and three step-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Restlawn Park in Avondale.

FLETCHER, LOUIS RENALDO

Louis Renaldo Fletcher, a retired gearman with T. Smith and Sons, died Tuesday at Memorial Medical Center. He was 80. Mr. Fletcher was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He was a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. He was an Army Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife, Neomi McKay Fletcher; a son, George Milanez; a daughter, Iris Wiltz; two sisters, Jacqueline Sardie and Roberta Gumbel; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Tuesday at noon at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2916 Paris Ave. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Rosalie Wedge Jacques, a homemaker, died Sunday at Doctors Hospital. She was 84. Mrs. Jacques was born in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 50 years. Survivors include three sons, Ray and George J. Jacques and Bertrand Charles Jacques Jr.; two daughters, Altha J. Brandy and Susan J. Reese; a sister, Mary Wedge Dewhirst; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said today at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Mausoleum.

Livingston Patrick Celestine, a self-employed carpenter, died Sept. 9 of a gunshot wound on Lowerline Street. He was 27. Mr. Celestine was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended John McDonogh High School. Survivors include his companion, LaTonya Lewis; a daughter, Ashley Brown; his mother, Fannie J. Celestine; his father, Emile Sissac; a sister, Carolyn Moore; and a brother, Peter Celestine. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 1716 N. Claiborne Ave. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Park.

Archie C. Lyles, 77, business activist
Archie C. Lyles Jr., a retired director of governmental affairs for construction company Brown & Root Inc., died Wednesday at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 77.
Mr. Lyles was born in Oberlin and lived in New Orleans for most of his life.
He was active in Louisiana politics, business and industry for more than half a century. He served on several state boards and commissions appointed by Govs. McKeithen, Roemer, Foster and Secretary of State Fox McKeithen.
"He was one of the few guys who got together and established a course of action so that business could have a voice in politics," said his son, Mark T. Lyles. "When he started out, organized labor controlled politics, and business didn't have much of a voice."
Mr. Lyles started his political career as a page in the state House of Representatives in 1938. He was involved in business legislation such as Right to Work and prevailing wage, workers compensation, unemployment compensation, and tort and fiscal reform.
After his retirement from Brown & Root in 1992, Mr. Lyles served as the company's consultant and political and business adviser.
Mr. Lyles was an appointed member of the Louisiana Board of Commerce and Industry and served as chairman from 1996 to 2000.
Mr. Lyles was an appointed member of the Louisiana State Archives Commission. He was a founding member and former chairman of the board of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, former chairman of SouthPac, founding member and former chairman of the Louisiana Right to Work Committee, and a former executive committee member of the Plaquemines Parish Chamber of Commerce.
He was a founding member and president of the Associated Builders and Contractors Bayou Chapter, and he received the organization's Member of the Year Award in 1973, Man of the Year Award in 1988 and Lifetime Membership Award in 1992.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
Mr. Lyles was a former lieutenant with Louisiana State Police Troop D in Lake Charles.
Survivors include his wife, Josie M. Lyles; a son, Mark T. Lyles; two daughters, Mary Lyles Adair and Lisa Lyles Kirwin; a sister, Katherine Kingery; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A Mass will be said Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. There also will be visitation Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at Ardoin Funeral Home, 301 S. Sixth St., Oberlin. Burial will be in Lyles cemetery in Oberlin.
