Linda K. Murphy Flanagan

SALISBURY -- Linda K. Murphy Flanagan of Salisbury, and formerly of Camden, Del., passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. She was 39.

Linda was born in Milford, the daughter of James G. Murphy Sr. of Bristol, Tenn., and the late Edna Longfellow Murphy.

She had lived in the Felton and Camden area in Delaware until moving to Salisbury about 20 years ago.

Linda was a credit report researcher for the Credit Bureau of Delmarva in Salisbury.

She enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and crabbing.

In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by a brother, James W. Jones.

She is survived by her husband, James Flanagan, whom she married in July 2004; her father and stepmother, James G. Sr. and Lena Murphy of Bristol; two brothers, James G. Murphy Jr. of Bristol and Charles Jones Sr. of Frederica, Del.; two sisters, Jeanette Johnson of Coweta, Okla., and Patsy Virdin of Salisbury; her beloved Yorkie, Moe Murphy; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home on Main Street in Felton, where friends may call tonight from 7 to 9. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery in Camden.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Wellness Community of Delmarva, 1201 Pemberton Drive, Salisbury, Md. 21801 for cancer support services.

Patricia Ann Yurkonis

QUANTICO -- Patricia Ann Yurkonis, 65, of Quantico died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

She was born Oct. 28, 1939, in Jackson Heights, N.Y. Mrs. Yurkonis lived in Quantico for six years and was previously from Middletown, N.J., where she lived for 25 years.

She was a communicant of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury and a former communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Monmouth, N.J.

She was a retired teacher for St. Mary's fourth grade for 10 years and also for the Bayshore Middle School Special Education for Middletown Township Board of Education, where she worked for 11 years, retiring in 1999. After retirement she was a docent at the Salisbury Zoo and a mentor at Salisbury Grammar School.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Henry Yurkonis; a son, Joseph J. Purce Jr. of Madison, N.J.; daughters, Maryellen Wright of Mahwah, N.J., and Jean Marie Dinges of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; her mother, Margaret Delehanty of Salisbury; a brother, John P. Delehanty of Aurora, Ill.; a sister, Maryellen Spota of Mount Sinai, N.Y.; and grandchildren Brian, Gregory, Kathryn and Megan Dinges, Fiona, Jack, Sean and Catherine Purse and Caroline and John Wright and Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her father, John P. Delehanty.

A funeral gathering will be held at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home Inc. at 115 Tindall Road in Middletown, with funeral liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Hollidaysburg on Friday. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shirley Marie Cranfield

SALISBURY -- Shirley Marie Cranfield, 59, of Salisbury passed away Monday, April 11, 2005, at her residence.

Born in Salisbury, she was the daughter of Emma Marie Shockley Austin of Delmar and the late Wilbur Clifford Austin.

She was employed for 30 years at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, retiring in 2003. She had previously received the Employee of the Quarter award in 1993. She was a member of Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene, where she and her husband had received the Distinguished Service Award. She took a lot of care in helping to keep the church facilities looking nice. She loved to visit Lancaster, Pa., with her family. She enjoyed cooking and keeping a clean and tidy home. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Vaughn Charles Cranfield of Salisbury; three children, Kimberly Lynn Palmer and her husband, Jimmy, and Kevin Charles Cranfield, all of Salisbury, and Karen Ann Williams and her husband, Ruben, of Eden; three grandchildren, Brittany Palmer, Kalena Williams and Tash Williams; a brother, Wilbur A. Austin of Delmar; and three sisters, Patricia Adkins, Delores Williams and Bonnie Patterson, all of Salisbury.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene, 27765 Nanticoke Road in Salisbury, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald G. Parker and the Rev. Joel K. Beiler.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be sent to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, Md. 21802.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home at 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, Md. 21804.

Elwood Bailey Price

SNOW HILL -- Elwood Bailey Price, 81, "The Snowball Man, " formerly of Covington Street, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was a resident of Salisbury Center: Genesis ElderCare in Salisbury.

Born in Snow Hill, he was the son of the late Ida Mae Price. His late wife, Emily Truitt Price, died in 1985.

He retired after more than 30 years from the former J.I. Wells, now Koppers Inc. of Quantico. As a retiree, he loved to work and became employed at the Maryland Information Center in Pocomoke City. He was also known for selling snowballs in the Snow Hill area for more than 45 years.

He was a dedicated member of Hutts Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, where he served as a member of the United Methodist Men and former trustee member. He was also a member of Snow Hill No. 105, F. & AM, P.H. A.

His survivors include three daughters, Betty Nelson of Washington, Valerie Price of Baltimore and Lynn Smith of Salisbury; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Linwood Price, Donald Price and wife, Willie Ann, and Shelton Deshields and wife, Lucille, all of Snow Hill; one sister, Fannie Murray of Salisbury, one sister-in-law, Beatrice Gillette and husband, Bernard "Chris, " of Chester, Pa.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, where friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hutts Memorial United Methodist Church cemetery in Snow Hill.

Services are entrusted to Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.

Harry John Robertson

DOVER -- Harry John Robertson of Dover, retired Army officer, veterinarian, inventor, professor and consultant, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the County Rest Home in Greenwood. He was 92.

Born on May 24, 1912, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Clyde and Julia Martin Robertson.

Dr. Robertson was a graduate of Delaware Valley Mechanical Agricultural College in Pennsylvania. He received a degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in public health from Harvard University.

Dr. Robertson served in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps for 20 years and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served in World War II in Iceland, England and France and was in Paris on V-E Day.

During his military service, Dr. Robertson received two Legion of Merit awards and the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara. He attended Command and General Staff School, Quartermaster School in food technology and Emory University, where he received a certificate in food and drug law. He attended retired military organizations, including the 15th Major Port.

After retiring from military service in 1961, he practiced veterinary medicine in Salisbury.

Dr. Robertson also was an adjunct professor at Salisbury State University and a clinical professor at the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.

Dr. Robertson was an inventor who held 29 U.S. and foreign patents. Some of his inventions include: method of treating meat and bone, medical protein hydrolysate, wide angle rear view mirror, method and apparatus for producing spherical objects, automobile window washing apparatus and heat exchanger and Chronicure.

He was a long-term member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury and a member of the Free Masons.

His first wife of 50 years, Thelma Breithaupt Robertson, preceded him in death.

They are survived by their five children, Thelma Harriet (Bobbi) Hawkins and her husband, James, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., Dr. Brian H. Robertson and his wife, Claudia, of Mount Holly Springs, Pa., Bruce Robertson and his wife, Janet, of Universal City, Texas, Dr. Roger J. Robertson and his wife, Anne, of Chambersburg, Pa., and Beverly Robertson Plachta and her husband, Walter, of Nanticoke; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Robertson Penny.

Dr. Robertson is survived by his wife of 14 years, Mary Ann Gardner Robertson of Dover, and her children, Kirt A. Krebs and Kathleen Krebs Leach, both of Wilmington, and her two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road in Dover. Burial with full military honors will be held Monday, June 13, at 3 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Veterinary Medicine Library Fund. Checks should be made payable to "Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania" and mailed to University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, 3800 Spruce St., Suite 172E, Philadelphia, Pa. 19104.

Arrangements are being handled by Torbert Funeral Chapels in Dover.

Phyllis M. West

WILLARDS -- Phyllis M. West of Willards died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

She was a homemaker.

Born in Pittsville, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Gladys Gravenor Melson.

She is survived by her husband, Gary W. West Sr. of Willards; a son, Gary W. West Jr. of Ocean City; an adopted son, Derek Dayton of Willards; two daughters, Jodie Lynn Clark and Rita F. Dayton, both of Pittsville; a brother, Marshall Melson of Berlin; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Charles Melson, preceded her in death.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are being handled by Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville.
