Wilma R. Edgel

Wilma R. Edgel, 82, of Stonecroft Court, Hagerstown, died Monday May 3, 1999, at Avalon Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.

Born Sept. 18, 1916, in Doddridge County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Birtis and Mada Tate Hyde.

She was a graduate from Award Cosmetology School, Hagerstown.

She was employed at Pearl's Beauty Salon and Hair After, Hagerstown, for 28 years as a hairdresser.

She was a member of Baptist Temple, Hagerstown.

She is survived by one son, Larry Edgel of Hagerstown; one grandson, Brent J. Edgel and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Husk and Oleta Lackey.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Daris W. Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Helen L. Miller

WILLIIAMSPORT - Helen Luella Hershey Miller, 88, of 16505 Virginia Avenue and formerly of Artizan Street, Williamsport, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at her home.

Born July 27, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Roger Charles Hershey and Violet Florence Meyers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell George Miller, Sr., who died in 1986.

She was a 1927 graduate of Hagerstown High School and attended various business schools.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, South Potomac St., Hagerstown.

She is survived by one daughter, Anne M. Colvin of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Marie H. Peiffer of Waynesboro, Pa.; one granddaughter, Dr. Michelle S. Barr of Cleveland; one grandson, H. Scott Snively of Chicago; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Russell G. Miller, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Edward H. Heim. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association c/o Diabetes Education Center of Washington County Hospital, 251 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Freeda R. Socks

Freeda Ruth Socks, 90, of Highland Way, Hagerstown and a former resident of Hancock, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.

Born Feb. 9, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Earl and Anna Mae Ahalt Wentling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Socks, who died in 1988.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Holland of Hagerstown, with whom she resided; three sons, Charles Socks and Ralph Socks, Sr., both of Hancock, and Stanley Socks of Hagerstown; 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Earlene Kinzer; two sisters, Phronie Wentling and Alice Wentling; and one brother, Earl Wentling.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. Burial will be in Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery, Little Orleans, Md.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Piney Plains cemetery Association, c/o Pat Nicodemus, 14808 Jenny Lane, Little Orleans, MD 21766.

Elsie L. Hause

Elsie Lavinia Hause, 84, of 14429 Marsh Pike, Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 1, 1999 at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 2, 1914, in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Lester and Annie C. Mummert Kaiser.

She was a member of First Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence L. Hause; three sons, Raymond E. Hause, Kenneth L. Hause and Russell S. Hause, all of Hagerstown; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Iva R. Smith

Iva Rene Smith, 81, of 1114 Salem Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, May 2. 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 12, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles P. and Bertha Lewis Shry.

She as previously employed with Fairchild Aircraft and Maryland Ribbon Company.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Smith; two daughters, Janet I. Jones of Hagerstown and Judith A. Sharer of Clear Spring; two sisters, Cornelia Rodgers and her twin, Josephine Baker, both of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond Valentine and Joseph Valentine and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Kevin L. McClanathan

Kevin Leon McClanathan, 35, of 130 Fairground Avenue, Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 29, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 10, 1963, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Harold J. McClanathan of Shepardsville, Ky. and Evelyn Powers McClanathan of Hagerstown.

He was employed with Steffey and Findlay, Inc.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sue E. Brown McClanathan; a daughter, Tracy McClanathan, at home; four sons, Kevin L. McClanathan Jr., Patrick McClanathan, Daniel McClanathan and Mathew McClanathan, all at home; three sisters, Nancy McCauley, Bonnie Massie and Thelma Allen, all of Hagerstown; and two brothers, Harold J. McClanathan of Red Lodge, Mont. and Teddy R. McClanathan of Clear Spring.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda D. McClanathan and Naomi J. McClanathan.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ethel G. Ott

Ethel Grace Ott, 82, of 268 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 3, 1916, in Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Florence Blake Ott.

She was employed assisting many people in maintaining their homes.

She was a member of Church of God Universal.

She is survived by four sisters, Pearl Ott of Welland, Ontario; Olivet Harmon of Cleveland, Ohio; Erma Carver of Port Colb, Ontario and Viola Kane of Buffalo, N.Y.; and a brother, Roy Ott of Stevensville, Ontario.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ott; and two brothers, Paul Ott and Alvin Ott.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Pastor Alvin A. Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Church of God Universal, P.O. Box 88, Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Holly Place, 268 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
