ELEANOR G. MCCREERY

CUMBERLAND -- Eleanor Grace (Ayers) McCreery, 83, of the Cumberland Nursing Center, died Wednesday night at Memorial Hospital.

She was born on June 23, 1917, in Berwind, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Tony L. and Emma Mae (Wardrep) Ayers. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Glenn McCreery in 1972; two brothers; and five sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

During World War II, she worked as a telephone operator and locally worked during the 1960s as executive secretary for the March of Dimes and during the 1980s for the Cumberland Senior Citizens Center as coordinator for Telephone Reassurance. She volunteered for various local organizations. She was a lifetime member of Centre Street United Methodist Church, where she was active as a Sunday School teacher and circle leader for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary and McKinley Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two daughters, Kista Weller, St. Michaels, Md., and Deborah Thompson, Annapolis; four grandsons, Jeff Weller, Todd Weller, Ryan Adam and Andy Adam; and two great-grandchildren, Patrick and Riley Weller.

At her request, her body was donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board.

A Memorial Service will be conducted by Rev. Lloyd McCanna at Centre Street United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 3, 2001, at 12 noon.

Expressions of sympathy should be directed to Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217 N. Centre St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

KENNETH E. WILCOX

LAVALE -- Kenneth E. "Tubby" Wilcox, 82, of 120 Mary Court, LaVale, formerly of Luke, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born in Westernport on May 24, 1918, he was the son of the late Dewey Kenneth Wilcox and Leola Vassar (Reeves) Wilcox Walker.

Mr. Wilcox was retired from Westvaco Corp., with 45 years of service, having been a supervisor of maintenance. He served with the Fifth Marine Division of the United States Marines Corp., having participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a 50 year member of Hiram Lodge #103 A.F. & A.M. of Westernport, a member of the Ali Ghan Shrine of Cumberland, with the Provost Guard Unit, a member of the York Rite Bodies and the Knights of Templer of Cumberland. He was also a member of Kelly Mansfield Post #52 American Legion, Piedmont, W.Va., and the Queen's Point V.F.W. #6775, McCoole. Mr. Wilcox was a former member of the Luke Volunteer Fire Co., and formerly served on the Town of Luke City Council.

Surviving are his wife, Mary (Mazzone) Wilcox; two daughters, Mary Ann Green and husband Ed of Churchville, and Helen Nelson and husband Dr. Joseph of Cumberland; four grandchildren, Brady Green and wife Nancy, Captain Kenneth Nelson M.D., Christopher Nelson and Ryan Nelson.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Hiram Lodge will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the Father Paul Byrnes officiating.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, where full military honors will be accorded at graveside by various military organizations.

MARGUERITE B. (WINELAND) GELRUD

LAVALE -- Marguerite B. (Wineland) Gelrud, 88, Doris Street, LaVale, she had been residing at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 10, 2001 at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born April 14, 1913 at Ellerslie, she was the daughter of the late Harvey C. Wineland and Ida M. (Burley) Wineland. She was preceded in death by a beloved son Bobbie Allen McDermott, Phoenix, Ariz.; also preceding her in death were two brothers and seven sisters.

Mrs. Gelrud was a homemaker and a member of LaVale United Methodist Church.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Gelrud is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Ann Collins and husband C.J, (Rip), Russa Raye (Rusty) Jones and husband Russell, both of LaVale; a daughter-in-law, Jean McDermott, Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Kevin McDermott, Brandon McDermott, Tracy Boucher, Dr. Tim Collins, Michael Collins, Kelly Pearson, and Stacy Jones; 12 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She will be sadly missed, but long remembered.

At Mrs. Gelrud's request her body was cremated.

A graveside service will be held at Hyndman Cemetery, Hyndman, Pa. on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bernadette M. Ross officiating.

The family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.

The family requested that contributions take the form of donations to the LaVale United Methodist Church.

The Kight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

RICHARD RANDOLPH "RANDY" GINEVAN

OLDTOWN -- Richard Randolph "Randy" Ginevan Sr., 57, of Oldtown, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.

Born March 7, 1944 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Elwood and Eva Pearl (Shrout) Ginevan. He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Thomas, George, and Russell Ginevan.

Mr. Ginevan was a 1962 graduate of Oldtown High School. He worked 30+ years for the Western Maryland Railroad and was currently a conductor with the CSX Corp. He attended the Oldtown Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a former member of the Oldtown Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Ann (Swanger) Ginevan; one daughter, Cindy Crabtree and husband Royce; one son, Richard "Richie" Ginevan Jr. and fiancee Michelle Runner, all of Oldtown; two grandchildren, Ashten Ginevan and Randon Crabtree; six sisters, Deloris Wagner, Oldtown, Ellen Davis, Churchville, Beverly Harkum, Pasadena, Doris Miller, Barton, Patsy Edwards, Hampton, Va., and Linda Gross, Slanesville, W.Va.; one brother, Elwood "Mouse" Ginevan, Oldtown; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Joe DiNicola and the Rev. Fred Parker officiating.

Interment will be in Long Cemetery, Oldtown.

Pallbearers will be Carson Gross Jr., Tommy Ginevan, Roger Davis, Bobby Bible Jr., Jeff Imes, Junior Lee Hetrick, Don Moss, and Mark Crabtree.

EDNA LAVADA BITTNER

FROSTBURG -- Edna Lavada Bittner, 83, of Shaw Street, Frostburg, formerly of Mount Savage, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born May 7, 1918 in Purgitsville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Adam and Lulu (Reynolds) Murray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles V. Bittner on Feb. 25, 1995; one sister, Mae Preston; and three brothers, William, Mervin, and James Murray.

Mrs. Bittner was a homemaker. She attended George's Creek Adult Day Care.

Mrs. Bittner is survived by two sons, Robert L. Bittner and wife Sue, Mount Savage, and Charles E. Bittner and wife Doris, Frostburg; two granddaughters, Diana Yates and husband Keith, Cumberland, and Debbie Robison and husband Keith, Mount Savage; two step-grandsons, Earl Wilhelm, Jacksonville, Fla., and David Wilhelm and wife Linda, Gilmore; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Yates, Derrick Yates, Dillon Yates, Samantha Valiton and Candace Robison; two step-grandchildren, Kristie Wilhelm and Jefre Wilhelm; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.

Interment will be in the Cook Cemetery, Wellersburg, Pa.

MICHAEL EDWARD FLANIGAN JR.

MOUNT SAVAGE -- Michael Edward Flanigan Jr., 88, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home Care Center, formerly of Ponderosa Lane, Mount Savage, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born June 5, 1912 in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Michael Edward and Anna (Brady) Flanigan Sr. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Williams, Marcella Dickerhoof and Anna Porter; and three brothers, William Joseph Flanigan, Thomas Edward Flanigan, and James Patrick Flanigan.

Mr. Flanigan Jr. was retired from the final finishing department at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage.

Mr. Flanigan Jr. is survived by his wife, Mary Agnes (Diehl) Flanigan; two brothers, Edward Flanigan, Frostburg, and Johnny Flanigan, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, David Hotchkiss and wife Sherry, Mount Savage.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Friday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Paul Byrnes as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Saint Patrick's Parish Cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff, residents and all the personnel at Frostburg Village Nursing Care Center.
