NATHANIEL E. "NATE" BOWIE JR.
CUMBERLAND - Nathaniel E. "Nate" Bowie Jr., 54, of 107 Polk St., Cumberland, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at Martinsburg, W.Va., Veterans Hospital.
Born Aug. 5, 1944, in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late Nathaniel Earnt Bowie Sr. and the late Marian (Lytle) Bowie. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Lytle and Major Bowie; and a sister, Rose Marie Jackson.

Mr. Bowie was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are two daughters, Shay Nichole Bowie, Oxon Hill, Marian Bowie, Cumberland; a son, Christopher Bowie, Cumberland; and three sisters, Marjorie Fisher, Cumberland, Carol Jane Blowe, Winchester, Va., and Gayle Bowie, Landover.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A.

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Family requests that memorials be made to the Kidney Foundation.

CLYDE E. BOWMAN
GRANTSVILLE - Clyde E. Bowman, 91, of 175 Meadow View Drive, Grantsville, passed away Thursday, May 20, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
He was born at Boynton, Pa., April 26, 1908, a son of the late Edison and Olive Blough Bowman.

He was a self-employed farmer. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a 34-year member of Grantsville Post #214 American Legion, and he was a member of the Laughlin Church of the Brethren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Bowman; and one grandson, Roger Wilhelm.

He is survived by one daughter, Alice Smith and husband, Gerald, Grantsville; one sister, Elsie Stevanus, Cresaptown; two grandchildren, Dwayne Wilhelm and wife, Joan, Karen Smith and husband, Scott; five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Megan, Heather, and Justin Wilhelm, and Kaitlyn Smith.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Yoder and the Rev. David McKinney officiating.

Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery.

Military rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post #214 American Legion.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Northern or the Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad.

ORINTHA B. BOWMAN
CUMBERLAND - Orintha B. "Rinkey" Bowman, 72, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, while her family was by her side, Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 12, 1927, in Green Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alonzo J. and Harriett (Parlett) Zies.

Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a life member of the District 16 Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Robert L. Bowman; two daughters, Mary T. Nixon and husband James, Oldtown, and Linda A. Robertson and husband William, Cumberland; two sons, Donald R. Grabenstein and wife Carolyn, Short Gap, W.Va., and Robert C. "Chuck" Bowman and wife Linda, Ligoneer, Pa.; six sisters, Evelyn Ritchie, Spring Gap, Frances Wilson and husband Frank, Charleston, W.Va., Anna May Adams, Ridgeley, W.Va., Jane Orndorff and husband Glen, Vero Beach, Fla., Fay Jacobs and husband Erlin, New Market, N.H., and Daphne Gloyd, Little Orleans; four grandchildren, Ronald J. Grabenstein and wife Tabatha and Eric M. Grabenstein Sr., all of Fort Ashby, W.Va., Victoria L. Nixon, Oxford, Ohio, and Debra J. Nixon, Oldtown; and one great-grandson, Eric M. Grabenstein Jr.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The District 16 Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley officiating.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ronald Grabenstein and Eric Grabenstein; and Allan Snider, Floyd Stafford, Jerry Lewis and Leroy Shoemaker.

Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery, Cumberland.

DOROTHY M. COMBS
CUMBERLAND - Dorothy M. Combs, 82, of Beall Street, Cumberland, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born April 12, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Albert Earnest and Viola (Emerick) Earnest. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur"Willie" Combs, on Oct. 4, 1992; and one grandson, Richard L. Isner Jr.

Mrs. Combs was a member of the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ; a member of Tippecanoe Council 100; and a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cumberland Outdoor Club.

Surviving are one son, Kermit E. Combs, Greensboro, Ga.; two daughters, Janet H. Isner, with whom she resided, and Patricia E. Rounsevelle, Bowie; one brother, Albert F. Earnest, Cumberland; seven grandchildren, Karen"Missy" Hawk and husband Freddy, Heather Isner, Cathy Resnick and husband Steve, Sandy Sumner and husband Kimmy, Patrick "Mickey" Harris, Alan Combs and wife Pat, and Sherry Hanley; 11 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Barbara White, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel G. Taylor officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 312 Bedford St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

GERALDINE MAE BOWSER
CUMBERLAND - Geraldine Mae Bowser, 76, died at her home on Frederick Street, Cumberland, on Tuesday, May 25, 1999.
She was born March 1, 1923, on Maple Hollow Road, Duncansville, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Stom) Gearhart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Catherine Troxell and Marie Gearhart, Duncansville, and Olive Haller and Aldine Gearhart, Hollidaysburg, Pa.

Mrs. Bowser graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, Dayton, Va., in 1949, having attended on a scholarship. During her last two years of college, she was made an assistant to the Dean of the Organ Department.

She did her graduate studies at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City and The Princeton Choir College of Princeton, N.J.

Before moving to Cumberland, Mrs. Bowser had served as organist at the Brethren Church, Portsmouth, Ohio, the Dutch Reformed Church, Walden, N.Y., and the First Lutheran Church, Altoona, Pa.

Mrs. Bowser was a well-known church organist in the Cumberland area. She played twice, for a total of 14 years, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Bowser had also played for a number of years at Trinity United Methodist and Grace United Methodist Churches. Her last organist position was at Centre Street United Methodist Church.

In addition, Mrs. Bowser had been a substitute teacher in music and special education for Allegany County.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley M. Bowser; one son, Dr. Stanley C. Bowser, Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, Charles Gearhart, Littleton, Colo.; one niece and one nephew, also of Colorado.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 29, 1999, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.

Interment will be in the Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.

The Men of St. Luke's will serve as pallbearers, Charles McVeigh, Lou Windemuth, Gary Logan, George Brant and George Dixon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 111 S. George St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

One of Geraldine's favorite sayings was, "What you are is your gift from God; what you make of yourself is your gift to God.'
