FRANKLIN E. SHIRCLIFF
CRESAPTOWN - Franklin Eugene Shircliff, 52, of Cresaptown, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.

Born May 12, 1947, in Cumberland, he was the son of DonaldLyn (Hinze) Shircliff, of Cumberland, and the late Raymond Eugene Shircliff Jr.

Mr. Shircliff was a construction worker and a 1965 graduate of Fort Hill High School. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam as a First Sergeant in the 29th Division. He served on the Drumfest Committee; the Drum Major Award at Drumfest is given in honor of Frank's grandfather, Herman F. Hinze. He served as statistician of the AC Men's Basketball team. He was very active in the Christian Sunday School Basketball League with Second Baptist, and was a member of the Tone-Chime Choir at Second Baptist.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Mary Jane (Rice) Shircliff; three daughters, Tami and Paige Shircliff, both at home, and Stacy Shircliff, Worcester, Mass.; three sons, Tadd and Sean Shircliff, both at home, and Matthew Shircliff, Worcester; one sister, Dena Scrivani and husband Michael, Shawnee, Kan.; one brother, James L. Shircliff and wife Cathi, Jacksonville, Fla.; six nieces; one nephew; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be no visitation on Thursday.

Funeral services will be conducted at Second Baptist Church Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sherrill A. Dillon and the Rev. Jerry Durham officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Graveside military services will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Mike Iser, Coach Bob D. Kirk, Bob Andrews, Kevin Hampson and Lou Brandt. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Phillips, Paul Dicken, Michael Iser, Nathan Pillon, David Vanmeter, Kevin Curry, Zac Kerns, Clinton Johnson, Derek Lockard, Brian Hampson and Michael Knippenberg.

The family requests that contributions be made to Second Baptist Church, 1 Grand Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502.

JENNIFER JO SHAFFER
CUMBERLAND - Jennifer Jo Shaffer, 22, of 15209 Scarlett Court, Cumberland, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born July 14, 1976, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of George Robert Shaffer Jr. and Karen Ann (Logsdon) Shaffer, with whom she resided.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Alice Joan (Boyle) Logsdon; and her paternal grandmother, Mary Dorothy (Blake) Shaffer.

Jenny was a graduate of Fort Hill High School class of 1994, and attended Frostburg State University majoring in communications. She was employed at the Allegany County Health Department where she made many friends. Jenny was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles baseball team.

Besides her parents she is survived by her maternal grandfather, Edward Patrick Logsdon, Mount Savage; and her paternal grandfather, George R. Shaffer Sr., Lions Manor Nursing Home. Jennifer lived at home with her loving parents and her precious daughter, Bailey Ryann Shaffer, and her youngest brother, Stephen Shaffer; a brother, Ryan Patrick Shaffer and his wife, Angie, and their son, Jonathan Gage Shaffer, Short Gap, W.Va., and a brother, George R. Shaffer III "G.R.," Cumberland. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles, several cousins, and many special friends.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown, on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Reginald Russo, O.F.M., CAP, as celebrant. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Mount Savage.

EVA L. SHANHOLTZ
CUMBERLAND - Eva Louise Shanholtz, 83, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 28, 1915, in Cumberland Valley Township, Lake Gordon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Rising and Maude (Clites) Rising Ryan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Shanholtz; and two brothers, Donald Ryan and Douglas "Buddy" Ryan.

Mrs. Shanholtz was retired from the Celanese Corp. She was a member of Beth Shan Assembly of God, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cumberland Eagles 245.

Surviving are four brothers, Leonard W. Rising, Avon Park, Fla., Daniel I. Ryan, Kentucky, Charles A. "Butch" Ryan, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Royce R. Ryan, Ridgeley; four sisters, Effie Madelene Price, Potomac Park, Cumberland, Ada Belle Freno, Cumberland, Gladys Faye White, Bowling Green, Cumberland, and Shirley Yacenech, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gregory Georg officiating.

Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.

DORA L. SHARON
CUMBERLAND - Dora Lee C. Sharon, 73, of Cumberland, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Ruth (Brown) Westfall. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, William R. Turbin, and Harvey W. Sharon; two brothers, Raymond, and Kenneth Westfall; one sister, Mildred Raines; and one granddaughter, Tammi Lynn Turbin.

Mrs. Sharon was a private sitter. She was a member of Melvin United Methodist Church, Cumberland Outdoor Club Ladies Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, and Allegany County Beagles Club Auxiliary.

Surviving are two daughters, Katheryn E. "Polly" Hill, Cumberland, Carol A. Lowery and husband, Kenneth, Cumberland; three sons, Charles W. "Bill" Turbin and wife, Elke, Karlsrhue, Germany, John W. Turbin, Carl R. "Dink" Turbin and wife, Barbara, Cumberland; three brothers, Paul Westfall and wife, Irene, Westernport, Alvin C. Westfall and wife, Mildred, New Creek, W.Va., Victor Westfall, Sr., and wife, Wanda, Rawlings; six sisters, Esther Raines and husband, Russell, Westernport, Maxine Imperio, Burlington, W.Va., Josephine Deshong and husband, Dwight, Barton, Evelyn Shingler, Westernport, Reba "Becky" Harris and husband, Alfred, Burlington, W.Va., Mabel Heavner and husband, Reggie, Fountain, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Taylor, officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or American Cancer Society.

Nephews will be pallbearers.

LYLE H. SHARPLESS
OAKLAND - Lyle Harrison Sharpless, age 83, of Oakland, passed away Friday, May 14, 1999, at his residence
Born Nov. 18, 1915, in Mount Zion, Md., he was a son of the late Berkley and Lilly (Paugh) Sharpless.

Mr. Sharpless was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America, and Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria "Nellie" (Harvey) Sharpless; two daughters, Joann and husband, Bob Bernard, Jean and husband, Carl Spencer, both of Oakland; two brothers, Paul Sharpless and Fred Sharpless, both of Kitzmiller; one sister, Hazel McCrobie, Bloomington; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sharpless is at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, where friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Mount Zion Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.

Interment will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Garrett County Hospice.

DAVID H. SHAW JR.
WESTERNPORT - David H. Shaw Jr., 30, of Lanier, Ga., formerly of Westernport, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident in Drew County, Ark.
Born Oct. 5, 1968, in Cumberland, he was the son of David H. Shaw Sr. and Frances Ann Shaw of Westernport. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, John C. 'Jack' Shaw and Wallace D. Rigsby.

Dave graduated as a salutatorian from the 1986 class from Bruce High School. He also was a graduate of Western Maryland College in Westminster. He was an outstanding scholar and athlete both in high school and in college. At Bruce, he participated in football, baseball and basketball for four years and was honored as most outstanding for both football and basketball. He continued his basketball career at Western Maryland. He was a member of the National Honor Society, a Maryland Distinguished Scholar, and represented Bruce High School at the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Conference for two years. He also was a very talented musician.

Mr. Shaw served as an assistant coach of Smithsburg High School boys basketball team. He also was dedicated to helping his father run their own business of DHS Productions. He worked for the RPS Trucking Co. and later moved to Arkansas and then to Georgia, where he owned and operated Video Enterprises. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Westernport.

Dave was a beloved son, a loving brother to his two sisters, a devoted grandson and uncle and he touched everyone who knew him with his sharp sense of humor. He will be terribly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his two sisters, Stacey Weimer and husband Rick of Westernport and Shannon Shaw and fiance Vince Green, Gilmore; grandmothers, Katharine Shaw and Regina Rigsby, both of Westernport; two special nieces, Taylor Cutter and Torey Weimer; one nephew, Ricky Weimer; aunts and uncles, Robin Everline and husband Joey, McCoole, Julie Determan and husband Bill, Frostburg, John C. Shaw Jr. and wife Martha, Frostburg, and Liz Kalbaugh, LaVale; and numerous cousins that were close to him.

Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., on Tuesday, April 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Father Jim Hannon as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Peters Cemetery.
