Darlene Jones

Darlene La"Chelle Jones, 42, of Churchton and previously Annapolis died Oct. 1, 2002. The cause of death was not available.

Mrs. Jones was born April 15, 1960, in Washington, D.C. She attended Anne Arundel County Public Schools and in 1981 she received her associates degree in accounting from Anne Arundel Community College.

She worked for Southern Maryland Oil Company, Hub Furniture in Landover and Columbia Medical Plan.

A former member of Franklin United Methodist Church, she was a member of Young Adult Choir, director of Young People in Progress and teacher of church school. As a member of First Christian Community Church of Annapolis she was co-director of church school and coordinator of Puppet Ministry.

Her hobbies included talking with people, swimming, clowning around with family and friends, dancing and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Terence A. Jones of Churchton, whom she married on May 6, 1989; two sons, Michael Spriggs, Jr. of Norfolk, Va., and Andre R. Jones of Churchton; one sister, Shelia Parker of Annapolis; and her parents, John and Evelyn Jones of Churchton.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. tomorrow at First Christian Community Church, 1800 Hall Brown Road, Annapolis, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Ave., Davidsonville. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.

Katherine Kesmodel

Katherine Hunter Kesmodel, of Atlanta, Ga., and previously a longtime resident of Severna Park, died Oct. 4, 2002 of kidney failure at Haven House Hospice in Atlanta, Ga. She was 87.

She was born July 29, 1915, in Baltimore and her parents moved to Severna Park when she was six years old. She was the wife of the late Paul Kesmodel, a former headmaster at Severn School.

At the age of 50, she became the first director for the YWCA in Severna Park. Under her 17 years of leadership, she was able to transform the facility into an integral part of the community.

In 1978 she was honored by the Severna Park Jaycees, in 1983 she was named one of the Ten Most Outstanding Senior Citizens in the State by the Maryland Jaycees and upon her retirement in 1981 she was honored for her longtime service by the Severna Park YWCA.

She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, playing bridge and keeping up with the activities of her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, M. Hunter of Rehoboth, Del., Paul Joseph of Ellicott City, Robert Hall of Key Biscayne, Fla., and Edwin Martin of Severna Park; two daughters, Katherine Kesmodel Ellsworth of Alpharetta, Ga., and Molly Fenwicke of Decatur, Ga.; one brother, Joseph Maurice Hunter of Severna Park; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Johns The Evangelist Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the YWCA, 1517 Ritchie Highway, Arnold, MD 21012.

Marie Stanek

Marie Anna Stanek, 91, a longtime resident of Annapolis, died Oct. 4, 2002, of congestive heart failure, after an eight-month illness.

Mrs. Stanek was born Oct. 25, 1910, in Baltimore. On Nov. 20, 1932, she married William John Stanek, who died in 1971.

She was the owner of Marie's Beauty Shop in Eastport for 30 years.

Her hobbies included bowling on the Colonial Retirees League, crocheting and sewing. She was a member of St. Mary's and the Ladies of the Elks.

Surviving are one son, William Wayne Stanek of Davidsonville; one daughter, Rosemary Warren of Crownsville; one granddaughter, Heather DiAngelo; and two great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Funeral services will be held there on Wednesday at a time to be announced. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest cemetery Mausoleum, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis.

William Widman, Jr.

William "Bill" Frederick Widman, Jr., 74, a longtime resident of Edgewater, died Oct. 5, 2002, at his home of pulmonary thrombosis.

Mr. Widman was born March 28, 1928, in Baltimore and graduated from Maryland Park High School.

Until his retirement, he worked as the curator of birds at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and traveled the world collecting birds and wildlife for the National Zoo.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and storytelling.

He is survived by two brothers, Robert L. Widman of Staunton, Va., and Richard D. Widman of Rockville.

Family and friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Funeral services will take place in the chapel there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Donations may be sent to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.

Susan Ericson

Funeral services were held Oct. 6, 2002 at the Sol Levinson Funeral Home of Pikesville for Susan Rothenberg Ericson, 58, of Baltimore and formerly of Annapolis, who died of ovarian cancer Oct. 5.

Born and raised in the Mount Washington section of Baltimore, Mrs. Ericson graduated from Forest Park High School in 1961 and from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1966.

She began working in the 1970s for the Maryland Department of Juvenile Justice in Annapolis. While working full time, she earned a master of science degree in criminal justice from the University of Baltimore. She retired from the Juvenile Justice Department in 1990 after 23 years of service.

Mrs. Ericson was an avid reader who was interested in politics. She also enjoyed music, cooking, doing needlepoint and watching classic films.

She married R. Wayne Ericson in 1977 and the couple lived in Annapolis until moving recently to Baltimore.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Daniel W. Ericson of Washington, D.C.; and her father Jack L. Rothenberg of Baltimore. She was the sister of the late Alan L. Rothenberg and the daughter of the late Selma R. Rothenberg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alan and Selma Rothenberg Scholarship Fund, University of Maryland School of Law, 500 W. Baltimore St., Baltimore, MD 21201.

Rosie Grandstaff

Services for Rosie Grandstaff, 56, of Ocala, Fla., and formerly of Edgewater, were held this morning at Hiers Memorial Chapel at Timber Ridge in Ocala.

Mrs. Grandstaff died of a heart attack Oct. 4, 2002 at her home.

Born in Washington, D.C., she graduated from Annapolis High School. She worked as an assistant department manager for the former Woodward & Lothrop department store and the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections.

On Oct. 7, 1972, she was married to Alan Grandstaff.

Also surviving are one son, Billy Grandstaff of Mount Airy; one daughter, Rebecca Maus of Churchton; her mother, Rose Pope of Ocala and formerly of Edgewater; her sister, Sue Belchor of Ocala; her stepsister, Brenda Fisher of Maryland; her stepbrother, Michael Pope of Virginia; and five grandchildren.

She was the stepdaughter of the late Richard Pope.

John Klocko III

A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Drive, Crofton, for John Joseph Klocko III, 45, of Crofton who died Oct. 5, 2002.

Mr. Klocko, an Anne Arundel County Councilman, was killed in an automobile accident on Interstate 15 near Cedar City, Utah.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Klocko was completing his second term as councilman for District 7, which includes the south county area and most of Crofton.

A graduate of the University of Maryland in 1975, he received his law degree in 1985 from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University in Ohio. He attended the Air Force Academy for one year in 1975-76.

In addition to his council duties, he maintained a law office in Crofton. He also was a co-owner of ProCom, Inc.

He was recognized for his legislative work on telecommunications issues. He was an honorary firefighter for county Fire Company 7 and was a founder of the Greater Crofton Council.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and was an Eagle Scout of Troop 758 in Crofton.

His interests were mountain biking, downhill skiing and being involved in county and community issues.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Marie Hancock Klocko, whom he married in 1980; three daughters, Caroline Klocko, Mary Katherine Klocko and Elizabeth Klocko, all of the home; and two sisters, Joyce Fenwick of Bernardsville, N.J., and Hope Hudson of Chandler, Ariz.

He was the son of the late John and Mae Klocko.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Robert Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie. Burial is private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Philmont Scout Ranch of New Mexico, Rural Route 1, Box 35, Cimarron, NM 87714.
