James C. Windhorst, Aug. 12, in Maine, at 46. He worked in the financial industry and was vice president at Fidelity Investments at the time of his death from lung cancer. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and good-natured competition. He was predeceased by his father, Charles J. Windhorst ’54, and is survived by his wife, Terry Graves, and three children.

Isis Mendez Lopez, May 5, 2011, in Cochabamba, Colombia, at 34. She studied engineering at Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar and worked at Colegio Tiquipaya. The cause of death is unknown. Survivors include her husband, Freddy, a son, her parents, and two sisters.

Curtis L. Smith III '71 - June 25, 2011, in Minnesota at 61. A master gardener, he had his own garden design business. He also loved reading, music, and dance and was a fly fisherman and skier. Survivors include his wife, Kaye Denny, a son, his father, and four siblings. He died suddenly of a heart attack.

Jane Michener Riddell, June 30, 2011, in Asheville, N.C., at 66. She was a homemaker and mother who later in life worked at Asheville Eye Associates. She directed her church choir, sang with the Sweet Adelines, and volunteered at a historical museum. She knitted slippers and afghans for troops overseas. Survivors include her husband, Matt ’65, two sons, three siblings, and five grandchildren.

Linda A. Day, 2011, in San Pedro, Calif., at 59. An artist and professor, she earned an M.F.A. from Pratt Institute. Her work was exhibited in galleries nationwide and is in private and museum collections. She won grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and several residency fellowships. She earned tenure at California State Long Beach but also taught at UCLA and USC. She died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Survivors include her husband, David Scardino, her mother, and two sisters.

Richard Elliott ’56, May 1, 2014, in Huntsville, Ala., at 82. He served in U.S. Army Military Intelligence from 1954 to 1956 and worked for Arnold Greene Testing Laboratories as a testing specialist. Predeceased by a son, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Ann, a daughter, a son, and three grandchildren.

Andrew T.G. Johnson Jr. ’56, July 24, 2014, in Palm Springs, Calif., at 79. At Colby he played football and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He earned an LL.B. at Boston University, served as a deputy district attorney and had a private practice in Hawaii, and was a senior trust officer for an international bank in California. He is survived by two sons, four daughters, and eight grandchildren.

Eleanor Conover “Connie” Cook Reissig ’56, Aug. 3, 2014, in Teaneck, N.J., at 80. She earned her teaching certificate from Kean College and was director of the Bogart Memorial Nursery School in Bogota, N.J., from the late 1960s until the early 1980s. She is survived by her husband, Richard, and two sons.

Rita Reilly McCauley ’59, July 22, 2014, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at 76. She finished her bachelor’s at Barat College and earned a master’s in counseling at the University of Cincinnati. After working for the Cincinnati Health Department and MetLife, she achieved her goal of owning her own business, running Bench Advertising for 10 years until her retirement. Vibrant and joyful, she loved golf, tennis, ballroom dancing, and traveling. She is survived by her husband, Nash, a daughter, four sons, three stepsons, and 13 grandchildren.

Margaret Clark Preston ’59, July 7, 2014, in Dover, N.H., at 77. For more than 40 years she resided in Epping, N.H., where she owned and operated Rum Brook Farm and bred Morgan horses. She earned accolades with her stallion Immortal Command and had a love of all animals. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, reading, and having long talks with her grandson. Predeceased by her husband, Richard, she is survived by a son and grandson.

M. Tieche Shelton ’59, June 21, 2014, in Farmingdale, Maine, at 77. He was a car sales manager and belonged to the Kora Shrine in Lewiston, Maine, serving as potentate in 1982. An avid hunter and fisherman, he helped found the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and was its first executive director. He made friends wherever he went. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlene, a son, a daughter, four grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
