Patrick J. Keller

SAWYER - Patrick John Keller, 51, of Sawyer passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at his mother's home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 247, Sawyer, MI 49125.

Patrick was born June 4, 1958, in Chicago the son of Richard and Pauline (Zdybel) Keller. He was an outgoing man and loved by many. Pat enjoyed softball, fishing and the beach. He volunteered his time at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sawyer.

Survivors include his mother, Pauline Keller of Sawyer; a brother, Mike Keller of Sawyer; a sister, Katherine Zubik of Sawyer; a nephew, Phillip Zubik of St. Joseph, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pat was preceded in death by his father, Richard Keller, in 1991.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Pike Funeral Home, Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman.

Iola Jordan

BENTON HARBOR - Iola Jordan, 96, passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 11, 2009, at her home.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at the Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Drive, Benton Harbor with the Rev. Kenneth Gavin officiating. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the church.

Iola was born July 15, 1913, in Meridian, Miss., to Bruce and Mary Clayton. She had been a resident of the area since 1947. She enjoyed flowers and fishing in her leisure time. Iola was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church in Benton Harbor. She will be remembered as a family-oriented woman who loved and was loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Iola is survived by her children, Mary Elliott of Benton Harbor, Charles Bloomer of Kansas City, Mo., and Estelle Hawkins of Atlanta; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and by her spiritual sons, Lenward Taylor and Willie Beauford.

In addition to her parents, Iola was preceded in death by her two husbands, Charles Bloomer and Claude Jordan; sons, Ernest and Lee Bloomer; and by her 23 brothers and sisters.

Lorraine (Stelter) Koern

ST. JOSEPH - Lorraine Louise Koern, 83, of St. Joseph passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 E. Glenlord Road, St. Joseph. Burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held today, Aug. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph.

Lorraine was born on May 8, 1926, in St. Joseph, to Louis and Anna (Nehring) Stelter. She later married Arnold Koern on Sept. 2, 1950, in St. Joseph. Lorraine enjoyed singing church hymns and being with her family and the friends that she made at Royalton Manor.

Lorraine is survived by her two sons, David Koern of St. Joseph and Dale Koern of Bridgman. She is also survived by a brother, Louis Stelter Jr. of St. Joseph, and a sister, Esther Godfrey of Watervliet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Anna, her husband, Arnold, and a son, Dennis.

As expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or Hospice at Home.

Joseph Mandel Walker

SOUTH HAVEN - Longtime South Haven resident and beloved uncle, brother, and friend, Joseph Mandel Walker, 71, died peacefully of natural causes, Aug. 6, 2009, at South Haven Community Hospital.

Mr. Walker was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Arthur DeWitt Walker Sr. and Josephine Elizabeth Walker. He was the youngest of the three boys. The family relocated to South Haven when Mr. Walker was in elementary school. He graduated from South Haven High School, attended the University of Michigan and then went to work for the U.S. Civil Service in Benton Harbor and retired in the early 1980s. Mr. Walker was a gifted tailor and designer of clothes and was passionate about gardening and left behind many beautiful gardens at his home. Joseph loved to create, whether it was in the garden, in the kitchen or at the sewing machine. He brought joy to his friends and family as he was generous in sharing his talents. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loyal friend. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.

Mr. Walker was predeceased by his father and mother and his two older brothers, Dr. Arthur DeWitt Walker Jr. and James Henderson Walker.

Mr. Walker is survived by his nieces and nephew, Victoria, Andrea, Leslie, Melissa, JaRee, Jain and Akita Walker, all children of his two brothers. He is also survived by his loving sisters-in law, Dr. Jeanne M. Walker, Althea Burns and Dr. Retia Scott Walker and his devoted longtime family of friends, especially Naxie Holland.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Mr. Walker's home, at 17774 69th Street on Michigan 43 in South Haven, beginning at 1 p.m. to form a procession to travel to Monk Cemetery for the graveside ceremony. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Monk Cemetery, Geneva Township. Pastor Darwin Johnson will officiate. After the ceremony, an informal reception for family and friends will be held at Mr. Walker's home.

The family is being helped by the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven.

Kirk Anthony Guidry

BENTON HARBOR - Kirk Anthony Guidry, 54, of Benton Harbor departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Second Baptist Church, 600 Donald Adkins Drive, Benton Harbor, where the Rev. Kenneth M. Gavin is the pastor. The Rev. Lenzy Bell will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church and burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores.

Mr. Guidry was born Jan. 27, 1955.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shebra Young Guidry; two sons, Te'Rhon Guidry of Indiana and Damien Guidry of California; his parents, Icie Mae and Ezekiel Guidry Jr. of Benton Harbor; his brothers, Dennis D. Guidry of Flint, Mich., Garyl L. (Katrina) Guidry Sr. and Michael Guidry, both of Benton Harbor; sisters, Iris D. Guidry of Ypsilanti, Mich., Cassandra (Edward) Benion of Detroit and Sherri A. Guidry of Kalamazoo; mother-in-law, Barbara Young; sisters-in-law, Aaron "Kitty" (John) Brown and Shaynne Young, and brothers-in-law, Dion and Karlan Young.

Harold 'Jim' Casey

DOWAGIAC - Jim's life began on Jan. 24, 1936, in Dowagiac, the son of Harold and Mary Alice (Felner) Casey. He served his country in the Army. Jim was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Anders on Jan. 26, 1957, in Pokagon, Mich. He worked as a truck driver for Rudy Manufacturing, a foreman for Sundstrand, a production and operations manager for Modine and National Cooper Products and served as a policeman for Silver Creek Township for 13 years.

Jim was a member of the Dowagiac Moose, and the National Rifle Association. He loved NASCAR and followed Kyle Busch and enjoyed all sports especially football. He enjoyed wood- working, golf and fishing. He loved deer hunting and was very knowledgeable about guns. He also loved Harley Davidson Motorcycles and owned one for many years.

His loving family includes his wife of 52 years, Jean Casey of Dowagiac; his children, James Allen ( Tracy) Casey of New Port Richey, Fla., Thomas Richard (Lawra Jean) Casey of Niles, Steven Michael (Chantelle) Casey of Granger, Ind., and Jerry Eugene (Kelli) Casey of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Matthew, Kasey, Nicole, Christopher, Ashley, Trevor, Collin, Aaron, Alyssa and Madelyn; and great-grandsons, Richard "R.J." and William; sisters, Janet (James) Sayer of Dowagiac, Ruth, Helen and H. Jean Casey, all of Dowagiac.

Jim passed away on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and his parents.

Jim's family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, Dowagiac, where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Robert J. 'Bobby' Compton

SOUTH HAVEN - Robert J. "Bobby" Compton, 53, of South Haven died at home on Aug. 9, 2009.

Bob was born on April 17, 1956, in South Haven to Henry "Hank" and Marty (Moyer) Compton. Bob worked for many years excavating in the Compton family business and later starting his own business of RJC Excavating. Bob enjoyed his family, including the dogs, and hunting, fishing, boating and golfing. He also enjoyed going to Las Vegas, making new friends and having a good time. Bob operated his excavator in such a way he could scratch your back.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and one nephew, Clark Spencer.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Mascarello) Compton of South Haven; his three children - Nicole Compton of Traverse City, Mich., Adam Compton and Scott Compton, both of South Haven; two brothers - Henry Compton and Stanford (Cindi) Compton of South Haven; three sisters - Nancy (Robert) Braschler of Red Wing, Minn., Peggy (Brian) Spencer of South Haven and Susan (Gary) Blough of Coloma, and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be on Friday, Aug.14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at the family residence with Pastor Kevin McLemore officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Al-Van Humane Society. Thelma Scharnowske Fanslau

ST. JOSEPH - Thelma Olga Scharnowske Fanslau, age 93, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., passed away after an extended illness on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009. She was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Lake Township, Mich. Thelma was a longstanding member of Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. Our precious Mother is welcomed in Heaven by her first husband, Harold Scharnowske, and her second husband, Herman Fanslau.

Survivors include her son, Dennis Scharnowske (wife Chris); her daughter, Dyanne Scharnowske Upton (husband Bill); six grandchildren, DeAnn (Scharnowske) Lee, Jodie (Scharnowske) Harger, Christopher Whitaker, Laura Whitaker, Lacey Whitaker, Tyler Whitaker; and five great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Kaleb, Joshua, Zachary and Jacob.

The funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, with Pastor Rosenbaum officiating. Guests are requested to arrive at 10 a.m. for visitation with the family prior to the service. Thelma's wishes were that she be cremated and the interment will take place at Northshore Memorial Gardens, Coloma.

The family requests that memorials be made in Mrs. Scharnowske Fanslau's name to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4257 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, Fla. 32563. Those sending flowers should arrange for delivery to Grace Lutheran, 404 E. Glenlord Road, St. Joseph, Mich. 49085.
