Harold H. Amtower

SISTER LAKES - Harold H. Amtower, 74, of Sister Lakes, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the Berrien Center Bible Church, with the Rev. Ben Blackiston officiating. Burial will be in North Shore Memory Gardens, Hagar Shores. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the Berrien Center Bible Church of which he was a member.

Mr. Amtower was born Aug. 23, 1926, in Burlington, W.Va., to William E. and Mae Evelyn (Hilkey) Amtower. He married Bertha G. Gibson on April 10, 1953, in Battle Creek. He was a certified orthotist, having founded the AAA Prosthetic and Orthotic Laboratory Ltd. in S. Chicago Heights, Ill., in October 1966. He retired in October 1991 and had lived in this area since 1993, coming from Homewood, Ill.

Survivors include: his wife, Bertha, of Sister Lakes; two daughters - Cathy Sue (Charles) Beatty of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Judy Lynn Amtower of Chicago; two sons - Dennis Lee (Jane) Amtower of Medfield, Mass., and Kenneth Alan (Sherry) Amtower of Rantoul, Ill.; four grandchildren - Heather and Sarah Amtower of Medfield and Nicole and Krista Beatty of Bourbonnais; two sisters - Mable (Jack) Sexton of Sparta, N.C., and Virginia (Ernest) Thorne of Burlington, W.Va.; two brothers - George W. (Margaret) Amtower of Keyser, W.Va., and Franklin H. (Melba) Amtower of Shelbyville, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Amtower was preceded in death by four brothers - Charles L., Dewey E., Arnold and Arthur H. Amtower.

Iula R. Wright

ST. JOSEPH - Iula R. Wright, 88, of St. Joseph, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Lakeland Continuing Care Center, St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the St. Joseph Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Dey Florin Chapel, Florin Funeral Service, St. Joseph. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor. Memorials may be made to The Back to God Hour or the St. Joseph Christian Reformed Church.

Mrs. Wright was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Albany, Ky., and had lived most of her adult life in this area. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Wright was a charter member of the St. Joseph Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include: her three sons - Vernon (Veda) Wright and Wayne Wright, both of St. Joseph, and Robert Leland Wright of Benton Harbor; two daughters - Royce Krause of Benton Harbor and Mary Lou (Grady) Smith of Bridgman; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A special friend, Norma Marshall of Bridgman, and a special daughter-in-law, Veda Wright of St. Joseph, also survive Mrs. Wright.

Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Staton and Parthena Staton; her husband, Joseph C. Wright in 1964; two sons - Joe Staton Wright in 1950 and Duane Wright in 1962; a grandson, Wayne Wright Jr., in 1979; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Wright, in 1988. Mrs. Wright also was preceded in death by 15 siblings. A special friend, Vera Brown, also preceded her in death.

Wilhelmine Schwarz

ST. JOSEPH - Wilhelmine Schwarz, 94, of St. Joseph, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2000, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, as a result of injuries sustained from a car accident.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stephen Donoghue officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Berrien County Cancer Services. The family is being served by Tom Starks of Legacy Family Funeral Service - Matthew R. Purchase Chapel, Berrien Springs.

She was born Nov. 8, 1906, in Krasnapal, Poland, to the late Wilhelm and Caroline (Weiss) Banick. She worked side by side with her husband several years in the furniture business. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and doing needlework. She enjoyed attending church services.

She is survived by a son, Erwin (Lilly) Schwarz of St. Joseph; five daughters - Landa DeBodt of Bathead, Alberta, Canada, Tabea Faatz of Forrest, Ontario, Canada, Linda (Guenther) Boehm of St. Joseph, Meta (Klaus) Seltmann of Stevensville, and Sigrid (Victor) Kietzer of Baroda; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferdonand, in 1982; by four sons - Herman, Helmut, Werner and Reinhold; and by two daughters - Natalia and Irmgard.

Thomas Schulstrom

STEVENSVILLE - Thomas Schulstrom, 60, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Stevensville, passed away on Jan. 14, 2001, after a long illness.

Memorial services will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church in Punta Gorda at 11:30 a.m.  Friday, Jan. 19.

A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, Fla., 33612-9497.

Born in Rhinelander, Wis., Tom was a graduate of Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Mich. Residing in Stevensville since 1963, Tom was retired as the director/manager of Allied Signal Foundry in St. Joseph. He was a member of the American Foundrymen's Society.

Tom was active in the Stevensville/St. Joseph community. He previously served as the Commander of US Power Squadron (St. Joseph Chapter); member and president of the Michigan Steelheaders club; and member of the Lakeshore (Mich.) and Deep Creek (Fla.) Lions Clubs. Tom was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph and San Antonio Catholic Church in Punta Gorda.

Survivors include: his wife, Susan Lipscher Schulstrom; son, Jeffery (Jackie) of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and daughter, Stacy Schulstrom Roth (John) of Clearwater, Fla. Also surviving is his mother, Stella Schulstrom of Rhinelander; a sister, Mrs. Nancy (Dennis) Fisher; three granddaughters; and five nieces and nephews.

Phyllis K. Schaefer

ST. JOSEPH - Phyllis K. Schaefer, 52, of St. Joseph Township, passed quietly away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at her home surrounded by her children.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, April 13, at Peace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, of which she was a member. The Rev. Paul Koehneke officiated. Visitation was held prior to the service from 9 until 11 a.m. at the church. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church.

Phyllis was born May 22, 1948, in Benton Harbor, to Paul and Gertrude (Runge) Schmaltz. She was a graduate of Benton Harbor High School and had been employed by the Berrien County Health Department for several years.

Survivors include: her children - Jason (Katrina), Jeremy and Kristen Schaefer; her mother, Gertrude Schmaltz; a sister, Judy (Ron) Wilson, all of Benton Harbor; nieces -Rhonda Wilson and Shelley (Erik) Wilson; great niece and nephew Paul and Anna; and a very special friend, Donna Malloy. She was preceded in death by her father.

Assisting the family is Starks & Menchinger through Legacy Family Funeral Service - Matthew R. Purchase Chapel, Berrien Springs.

Alexander Jasik

UNION PIER - Alexander Jasik, 87, of Union Pier, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center, Michigan City, Ind.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Three Oaks, with the Rev. Father Donald Suberlak, C.R., as celebrant. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Chikaming Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pobocik Funeral Home Connelly-Noble Chapel, Three Oaks, where a Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Jasik was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Wojszyn, Poland, to Joseph and Maria (Glegola) Jasik. During World War II, he was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for 5 years, and after his release, he married Ingeborg E. Sonksan on March 26, 1949, in Germany. Mr. Jasik moved to the United States and was employed by Arthur Rubloff Company of Chicago for 25 years, and was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Chicago. After retiring, he moved to Union Pier, where he has made his home for the last 21 years.

Survivors include his loving wife, Ingeborg Jasik of Union Pier; a son, Edward Jasik of Union Pier; a daughter, Elizabeth Jasik of Union Pier; grandchildren - Brian Jasik, Kristina Jasik and Jennifer Jasik, all of Chicago, and Michael Alexander Jasik of Union Pier; his sisters - Alfreda (Zenon) Dobrowolski of Ohio; Jadwiga Lyscz of Illinois and Urszula (Tadeusz) Barylka of Poland, also survive along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Jacqueline Sue Frazier

SISTER LAKES -- Jacqueline Sue Frazier, 73, of Sister Lakes, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at her home.

She was born April 23, 1929 and lived her childhood in Coloma. On Sept. 30, 1950 she married Glenn Clyde Frazier of Dowagiac, with whom she shared an amazing life filled with love, happiness, family and friends. Together they raised seven children and lived at Dewey Lake.

Mrs. Frazier was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1963, member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Dowagiac for 50 years and volunteered at Patrick Hamilton Elementary School of Dowagiac for the past 10 years.

She is loved and survived by her husband, Glenn C. Frazier of Sister Lakes; sons and daughters-in-law -- Michael (Rebecca) Frazier of Elkhart, Ind., David (Sue) Frazier of Dowagiac, Victor Frazier of St. Joseph, Christopher Frazier of Sister Lakes and Joseph (Belinda) Frazier of New Lenox, Ill.; daughter, Julie Frazier of Delray Beach, Fla.; grandchildren -- Amelia, Stacy (Brian) Huston, Kevin, Kristi, Bryan, Sarah, Megan, Jill, Nicole and Nicholas; great-grandchildren -- Zechary and Tyler Huston; and a sister, Charlene Andrews of Portage, Mich.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she will then be laid to rest next to her son, Thomas, and grandson, Mark. The Rev. Leo Taubitz will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home, Dowagiac. A Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the St. Louis Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Place, St. Louis, MO 63110 or the donor's choice.
