Juanita Pullano Lomax

ST. JOSEPH - Juanita Pullano Lomax, formerly of St. Joseph and Charlotte, Mich., died peacefully at home with her family around her in Sunnyvale, Calif., on May 13, 2009.

She was predeceased by her two husbands, Nick Pullano and Richard Lomax.

She is survived by her sister of the heart, Bessie Rogers and her five children, Sandra Pullano, Nikki Traugh (Jim), Gregg Pullano (Belle), Patricia Pullano-Rogers and Mark Pullano. She is also survived by five stepchildren, Rick Lomax (Lisa), Rhonda Van Asperen (John), Brian Lomax (Susan), Bob Lomax (Barb) and John Lomax (Jodi), as well as 14 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

She was laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph.

James Franklin Vinoski

SOUTH HAVEN - James Franklin Vinoski, 58, of South Haven died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at South Haven Community Hospital.

He was born Jan. 11, 1951, in Middlesboro, Ky., to Mike F. and Mary (Woods) Vinoski. James graduated from Monroe High School in 1969. James married Diane Duvall on Sept. 2, 1972 in Monroe, Mich. James worked for Consumers Energy for the past 38 years, first at the Palisades Plant and then the past 20 years at the Allegan Dam. James was a member of the Utilities Workers Union of America Local 150, First United Methodist Church in South Haven. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 697 where he was the past governor. At the Moose he was also a Legion member and recently received the Legion of the year 2009 award. James enjoyed hunting, Muskie fishing, coin collecting and antiquing. James also loved traveling to Sweden where he and Diane have made four trips.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Winnie Duvall and brother, Mike Frank Vinoski.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Vinoski of South Haven; one son, Mike Vinoski of Kalamazoo; and one daughter, Jennifer (Edward) Harmon of Marshall, Mich.; one grandson, Aidan Marr; one brother, John Kenneth (Eva Marie) Vinoski of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Opal (Jim Sr.) Gross of New Port, Mich., and Oma Hathcock of Quincy, Fla.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, June 3, at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home, South Haven with a Moose Service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, South Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Moose Heart, Moose Haven or the Moose Scholarship Fund.

Ruth M. Shimer

WATERVLIET - Ruth died Monday, May 4, 2009, at the The Willows in St. Joseph. Her family is celebrating Ruth's life with a memorial service on Saturday, June 6, at 10 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church in Watervliet.

Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet in assisting Ruth's family with arrangements. Memorials may be made in Ruth's memory to Gideon Society.

Robert A. Wyman

BENTON HARBOR - Robert A. Wyman, 75, of Benton Harbor passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 29, 2009, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph, Mich. 49085 with the Rev. Kendall Holder officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, June 3, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or Berrien County Cancer Service.

Robert was born on March 25, 1934, in Buchanan, to Emanuel and Mildred (Binger) Wyman. Robert married his wife, Hazel on May 14, 1976, in St. Joseph. He enlisted as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. Robert was a farmer and became self-employed in construction. He will be missed by his family.

Robert is survived by his wife, Hazel (Schmidt) Wyman; a sister, Donna Wyman Rody; nephews, Brian (Diane) Lundy, Michael Lundy (Laurie); nieces, Peggy Lundy (Anthony Lewellinger), Linda (Phil) Sundberg, Karen Stakely (A.J); brother-in-law, George Schmidt; and special friend, Max Ballard.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys, and his parents, Emanuel and Mildred.

Maxine Mary Neidlinger

STEVENSVILLE - Maxine Mary Neidlinger, 70, of Stevensville died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Lakeland Continuing Care Center, St. Joseph of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, with Pastor Phillip Prenkert officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Bluff Cemetery, Lincoln Township. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home Inc., St. Joseph.

Mrs. Neidlinger was born March 15, 1939, in St. Joseph. She was a life-long area resident and a homemaker.

She married William Dean Neidlinger Sr. on Aug.2, 1958. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, William D. Neidlinger Jr., in 1990; a daughter, Lonna Neidlinger, in 2005; two brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by her sister-in-law and husband, Judy (Matt) Kickles of Baroda.

Gloria F. Weir

ST. JOSEPH - Gloria F. Weir, 80, of St. Joseph died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at her home.

Services celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, at the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in St. Joseph with the Rev. David Yoh officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. The visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Dey-Florin Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Riverside United Methodist Church.

Gloria was born on March 6, 1929, in Riverside, Mich. She married her husband, Robert M. Weir, on May 29, 1948, in Riverside and together they have celebrated 61 years of marriage. Gloria was a retired admitting clerk with Lakeland Medical Center and was employed there for 34 years. She was a lifelong member of the Riverside United Methodist Church. She was an avid bowler and loved playing bingo. Gloria was a wonderful mom and always cared for everyone else.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; her children, Mark (Pam) Weir of St. Joseph and Susan (Cliff) Munson of St. Joseph; her sister, Muriel Lucker of Coloma; her six grandchildren, and her three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Bennison, in 1993.

Avery Keeney

LANSING - Avery Keeney, 84, of Lansing, Mich., passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, at The University Seventh-day Adventist Church, 504 Ann St., East Lansing, Mich. 48823. Memorials may be made to MSU Breslin Cancer Center, 401 W. Greenlawn, Lansing, Mich. 48912.

Mr. Keeney was born March 8, 1925, in Lansing to Eber and Vesta (Avery) Keeney. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. Avery was a self-employed building contractor in the Lansing area for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed antique cars, playing golf, and attending real estate and antique auctions. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Mr. Keeney is survived by his children, Linda (Cecil) Derringer of St. Joseph, David (Helen) Keeney of Lansing, Ann Keeney-Miles of Culver City, Calif.; two stepchildren, William Pearce of Lansing, Priscilla Pearce of Illinois; three grandchildren, Andra Lambrecht, Gregory Derringer, Kathleen (William) Collins; three great-grandchildren, Kirsten and Allyn Collins, and Kylee Lambrecht; his sister, Cereda McConnell of Lansing; his brother, James (Joan) Keeney of Haslett, Mich.; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Greg Miles, and a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Ida Keeney, and a brother-in-law, Chester McConnell.

Elmer J. Van Dyke

PAW PAW - Elmer passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2009, at White Oak in Lawton.

He was born Dec. 5, 1916 in Zeeland, Mich., the son of the late John and Gertrude (Zonnebelt) Van Dyke. He was a graduate of Hope College with a BA degree, obtained his teaching certificate in business from Ferris College and received his MA degree from the University of Michigan. He taught in Mount Morris for one year and then was employed as a teacher, principal and superintendent for the Covert Public Schools until 1951. He became the Superintendent of the Van Buren Intermediate School District with his office in the Van Buren Court House basement. He was responsible for the creation and construction of the Intermediate School District Campus in Lawrence, and retired after 24 years in 1975.

Elmer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw for 57 years, Michigan Education Association, Michigan Association of School Administrators, LakeView Hospital Board, Paw Paw Library Board, Kiwanis Club of Paw Paw, and the Saturday morning breakfast group. He was an avid Tiger fan, U of M supporter, enjoyed playing golf, talking on the phone, and keeping up with the activities and interest of his children and their children.

On May 29, 1941, in Zeeland, Elmer was united in marriage to Laura May Van Kley, who preceded him in death on May 7, 1991. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Bauman in 1993; a great-grandson, William D. Bauman IV; a brother, Gerald Van Dyke killed in action during World War II in 1945.

Surviving are a daughter, son, eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Daughter, Joan (Warren) Grosvenor; granddaughter, Laurie (Brian) Southworth; great-grandchildren, Ericka, Cole and Jakob; grandson, John (Pam) Grosvenor; great-grandsons, Brandon and Jonathan all of Decatur; grandson, Gregory (Amy) Grosvenor; great-granddaughters, Gwendolyn and Jillian of South Haven; son, John Craig (Jeannie) Van Dyke of Portage; granddaughter, Monica (Scott) Gartner; great-granddaughter, Claire Gartner of Antioch, IL; grandson, Mark (Stephanie) Van Dyke; great-grandson, Landon Van Dyke of Morris, Ill.; grandson, Craig Van Dyke of East Lansing, Mich.; son-in-law, William D. Bauman Jr.; grandson, William D. (Jill) Bauman III; great-granddaughters, Mary and Katie Bauman; granddaughter, Cheryl (John) Bruey; great-granddaughter, Alia Bruey, all of Plainwell; sister, Esther Wickert of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Saturday 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held Monday, 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Tom Abbott officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw.
