Jennifer A. (Thuma) Schmidt

Jennifer A. (Thuma) Schmidt passed away Monday morning April 13, 2009. Jennifer was born November 22, 1978 in Eaton Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Wayne and Marilyn (Hector) Thuma. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident for the past 11 years and was employed with the Eaton Corporation in Three Rivers. Jennifer was also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority at Western Michigan University.

On November 6, 2004, she was united in marriage to Joshua “Josh” L. Schmidt who survives. Also survived, a daughter Abigail Schmidt of Portage; her parents, Wayne (Marla) Thuma of Eaton Rapids and Marilyn Thuma of Onondaga, MI; her brother, Joshua Thuma of Lansing; Joshua’s parents, Henry (Laurie) Schmidt of Grosse Pointe Park, MI and Richard (Nancy) Leffel of Del Ray Beach, Fl; a brother-in-law, Max Schmidt of Grosse Pointe Park, MI; and a sister-in-law, Meggie Schmidt of Philadelphia, PA.

Services were held on Friday, April 17, 2009 in Portage MI. Memorials may be directed to the Jennifer Schmidt Benefit Foundation.

Leah Rae (Blatt) Schofield

Leah Rae (Blatt) Schofield passed away on August 22, 2009 in Ocala, Florida. She was born on April 26th, 1935 in Eaton Rapids to Max Converse and Florabel (Bowers) Converse.

She will be missed by her husband Richard Schofield, her 4 children, David (Karen) Blatt, Roger (Connie) Blatt, Cindy (Ray) Davis, and Terri (Mike) Cadenhead, 4 step-children, Shirley, Richard (Marlene) Schofield, Steven Schofield, Linda (Dave) Finnerty, sister Judy (Phil) Gruber, brothers, Bill (Jewell) Converse, Max (Cathy) Converse, Mike (Pat) Converse, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Leah was preceded in death by her husband Red (Howard) Blatt, father Max Converse, mother Florabel Converse, sister Helen, brother Louis Philip Converse, grandson Michael Barke, great granddaughter Olivia Davis. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a loving, sweet and gentle soul to all who knew her.

A memorial service is scheduled this week in Ocala, FL and a memorial service will be scheduled in late September at the Brookfield United Methodist Church with burial of cremains in the Perry Cemetery. Nancy Schreiner

Nancy Lee Schreiner, 67, of Elgin, Ill., passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 in her home. She was born on Nov. 7, 1941 in Charlotte, the daughter of Ernest and Gladiola (King) Burger.

Nancy had worked in the Physical Therapy Department at the Apostolic Christian Resthaven in Elgin for most of her 23 years at the Resthaven. Nancy was a loving and caring person who will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Ronald Schreiner; two sons, Henry Ronald and Michael Ernest Schreiner and two brothers, Stanley and Dennis Burger.

Survivors include her brother, Joseph (Beatrice) Burger of Charlotte; two grandchildren of Georgia; “adopted” daughter, Andrea Bass of Elgin, Ill., and nieces, Teresa “Teri” Burger of Elgin, Ill.; and her beloved dog, Buddie, along with many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Gerry Galloway officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Rebecca Schroeder

Rebecca Lynne (Carpenter) Schroeder went to be with her beloved Lord Sept. 26,2009 at the age of 49. She was born Aug. 20, 1960 in Lansing.

Becky was a nurse for 22 years at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and will be missed by her beloved “HGB family”. She was known to many as a diabetic educator for the Eaton County community and loved supporting and teaching all those affected by Diabetes.

Becky was predeceased by her father, Clarence J. Carpenter; grandmother, Rosamond B. Sampson; great grandmother, Beulah Smith and her nephew, John Thomas Carpenter.

Becky is survived by her loving son, Matthew; her parents, Marilyn and Lorn Bullock; nine siblings, Penny Eaton of Knoxville Tenn., James Vermilyea of Marquette, Mich., Lorn R. (Diana) Bullock Jr. of Grawn, Mich., Onahlee (David) Johnson of Harrison, Mich., Laura (Leon) Sproles of Lubbock Texas, David Carpenter of Beloit, Ohio, Candie (Alex) Trevino of Owosso, Malinda (Michael) Davenport of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., and Jacquelyn Carpenter of Lansing; 56 nieces and nephews; and close friend, Brian Wilkie of Sun City, Ariz.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Church of Christ, Charlotte, with Pastor John Bailey officiating. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made for the benefit of her son Matthew Carpenter.

Earl Scutt

Earl A. Scutt, 91, of Potterville, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. He was born Sept. 7, 1917 in Lansing, the son of Roy and Ida Scutt.

Earl worked in the Cream Separator Repair Company business that his family owned and retired out of Adams Tool and Engineering.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Walter.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Leora Jean; daughter, Janet (James) Tinkey of Potterville; son, David (Debra) Scutt of Mason; nine grand and step-grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Monday, March 2,2 009 at Potterville United Methodist Church with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Potterville United Methodist Church or Eaton Community Hospice House in memory of Earl Scutt.

Charles F. “Bud” Sebastian Jr.

Charles F. “Bud” Sebastian Jr. of Springport, Michigan, age 84, passed away at his home, June 20, 2009. Charles was born the son of Charles F. III and Hattie (Nicklis) on May 18, 1925 in Calhoun County, Michigan. He was a shop foreman at Service Caster and Truck from 1943-1954. Bud started his well drilling career in 1954. He was a partner in the Leonard Well Drilling Co. form 1954-1983, Bud started the Sebastian and Sons Well drilling Co. where he remained active until his death. He was an honorary member of the Michigan Well Drillers Association. Charles was a square dance fiddler for over 50 years.

He is survived by his sons, Tom A. (Marlene) Sebastian of Springport, Bill (Tina) Sebastian of Springport, and Charles F. “Buddy” (Debra) Sebastian III of Springport; daughters, Linda (Jim) Fuller of Eaton Rapids, Kathy (T.L.) Brooks of Winthrop, AK; grandchildren, Jason (Nancy Babcock) Sebastian, Carrie (Steve) Davis, William “Chuck” (Anjala) Sebastian, Nay (Kim) Sebastian, Anthony (Stacie) Sebastian, Chad Fuller, Nicole (Ken) Fahnestock, Charlie Sebastian, Louis Tank, Brandon Tank, Jim (Joyce) Fuller, Kris Fuller; 19 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Locke, “Sally” Hilda Cooper; and a very special friend, Nancy Cuatt. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Marie (Adams) Sebastian; brothers, Wesley, Ray, Steven, Will “Buster”, David; sisters, Almeda, Lucille, Norma, Susie and Julia.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Thursday June 25, 2009 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, with Fr. Bennett Constantine officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a rosary at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Springport Cemetery. Wanda Sebolt

Wanda E. Sebolt, 60, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009. She was born Aug. 2, 1948 in Charlotte, the daughter of Clare and Dorothy Hunt.

Mrs. Sebolt was a caregiver at an adult handicap home and drove for Eatran. She enjoyed animals, bowling on the Sunday Night Holy Rollers and Wednesday Morning Risers Leagues, golf, jigsaw puzzles and was an MSU fan.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Marge Hackett and brother, Frank Hunt.

She is survived by her husband Earl; son, Troy (Sara) Auvenshine of Charlotte; daughter, Tammy (Dave) Ross of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; brother, Ron (Betty) Hunt of Charlotte; sister, Joanne (Larry) Weiler of Vermontville and step-daughter Leslie Sebolt of Hollywood, Fla.

Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Reverend Charles Jensen officiating.

Jasmine Seedorff

Jasmine Marie Seedorff, the three-day old daughter of Jessica Ruthruff and Cody Seedorff of Albion, died Thursday, Oct. 22. A graveside service was held Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Wally Shafe

“Wally” Llewellyn Carl Shafe, 83, of Bellevue, died Dec. 17, 2009 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born June 26, 1926, the son of Carl and Betty (Larison) Shafe in Bellevue.

Wally retired after working for over 30 years from Interstate Motor Freight in 1983. Wally and Mary Jane built, owned and operated the A&W Drive-In of Bellevue until 1977 and they still own and operate the Bellevue Mini-Storage.

Wally also provided a hay service for over 20 years. Together the couple enjoyed working, traveling, reading, dancing and visiting with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Wally is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane (Veramay) Shafe of Bellevue; their sons, Jack (Alicia) Shafe of Knoxville, Tenn., Larry Shafe of Battle Creek; daughter, Judy (Ron) McMillan of Bellevue; grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Shafe-Wulf, Parnell Shafe, Pete (Sarah) Otto, Grant Shafe, Ava Shafe, Robert McMillan and three great grandchildren, Gary, Julia and Emma Otto.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Bellevue First Baptist Church with Pastor Don Francis officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorial donations may go to a charity of one’s choice. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Lois Shaver

Lois Mae Shaver, 81, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Lois was born May 27, 1928 in Convis Township, Mich., the daughter of Frank and Emma (Jones) Masters.

She is survived by two sons, Gary (Loraine) Shaver and Terry (Debra) Shaver along with five grandchildren: Jason Shaver, Benjamin Shaver, April (Zach) Dillinger, Andrew Shaver and Matthew Shaver. She is also survived by her sister, Delores Carleton, her sisters-in-law, Betty Masters and Doris Masters and brothers-in-law, Duane and Neil Shaver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Shaver, and her infant daughter, Patricia Kay. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Howard, William, Paul, Wayne and Robert Masters.

Lois always put her family first. She was a wonderful cook who also enjoyed music and dancing and was a member of the Old Michigan Fiddlers Association.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Kenneth R. Carleton officiating. Interment was at Carmel Township Cemetery.
