Janis Edick

Janis R. (Janousek) Edick, 67, of Port Richey, FL, formerly of Vermontville and the Lansing area, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center in Hudson, FL. Janis was born Oct. 6, 1940 in Charlotte, the daughter of Glenn and Evelyn (Stadel) Janousek.

She was a 1958 graduate of Vermontville High School and had lived in the Lansing and Grand Ledge area before moving to Florida about 20 years ago. She had been employed at the Beall's Outlet Store in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Jo-Ann Hosey in 2006.

Surviving are her husband, Robert L. Edick, Sr.; two sons, Robert Edick, Jr. and Mark Edick both of New Port Richey, FL; grandsons, Trevor and Mason Edick; brother, Gary (Judy) Janousek of Mesa, AZ and brother-in-law, Eldon Hosey of Charlotte.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Israel Young of Vermontville First Congregational Church officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may go to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Forest Estep

Forest Junior Estep, of Stanton, MI, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI at the age of 85. He was born April 7, 1923 in Sunfield Twp., MI, son of Forest and Hester (Richard) Estep.

Forest was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the Marines. He was for former owner/operator of William Morris & Son Commercial and Industrial Construction Co., was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, and the Moose Lodge. Forest enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey (Youngs) Estep; and four brothers and sisters, Bethel, June, Richard, and Carlton (Cap).

Surviving are his four children, Sharon (Jack) Byers of Fenwick, MariAnne (Claude) Martin of New Berlin WI, Lynn (Nan) Estep of Sunfield, and Chris Estep of Ionia; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother Nina, Bina and Bill; many nieces and nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life service was held Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Saranac American Legion.

Raymond Evard

Raymond H. Evard, 67, of Charlotte, formerly of Lansing and Ft. Wayne, IN, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Raymond was born June 16, 1940 in Fort Wayne, IN the son of Raymond L. and Evelyn “Dolly” (Nusbaum) Evard and had been a Charlotte resident for six years coming from Lansing.

He had served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a sales associate at Wal-Mart of Charlotte. He was known locally on radio as “Uncle Ray.”

Surviving are his wife, Serena (Bills) Evard; his mother, Evelyn “Dolly” Evard of Fort Wayne, IN; brother, Ralph Evard of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Rose McFaland of Cape Coral, FL and numerous other family members.

At Mr. Evard’s request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Memorial services were held Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the DeWitt V.F.W. Post in DeWitt, MI.

Memorial contributions may go to the Humane Society.

Richard Ewing

Richard Norman Ewing, 88, of Vermontville, died quietly on Friday, April 25, 2008, at the assisted living center, The Flower House in Nashville. Mr. Ewing was born in Lansing on March 26, 1920, the son of Glenn and Anna Mae (Wohlschied) Ewing, the eldest of six children.

Richard served our nation during World War II, stationed primarily in France and Germany. Among other duties, he participated in dangerous missions to fly supplies to the troops in glider planes and the construction of bridges and other infrastructures. He was life-time member of the Nashville V. F. W. Post #8260 and the Vermontville Masonic Temple

The Ewing family moved to Vermontville in 1947 where Richard worked his farm and also worked in Lansing as a sheet metal worker foreman. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 7. He was an active dairy, beef and crop farmer, and also participated in land conservation, serving 16 years on the Soil Conservation District Board, where he received recognition for his accomplishments. He was known throughout the neighborhood for his ability and helpfulness in repairing most any type farm equipment. He also operated a bulldozer excavating business.

Upon retiring, Richard and his wife, Pearl, enjoyed traveling with their fifth wheel camper and spending their winter seasons at their home in Phoenix, AZ where he enjoyed the scenery and climate of the Southwest, as well as their friends there.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Fred Ewing of Alma; sister, Mary Pattison-Wierzbicki of Lansing; his wife of 53 years, Pearl V. (Pifer) Ewing and his second wife, Lillian I. (Anderson) Ewing.

Richard is survived by two sisters, Beatrice (Robert) Pattison of Charlotte, and Dolores (Robert) Hutchinson of Deer Park, WA; one brother, Virgil O. Ewing of Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Virginia (J. Wayne) Lackscheide of Vermontville and Bonnie (Matt) Saikkonen of Portland, OR; son Richard J. (Patricia) Ewing of Vermontville; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, April 29.

The family has suggested memorial contributions may be made to V. F. W. Post #8260.

Lynn Faulkner

Lynn Ira Faulkner, 82, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2 in Dimondale. He was born May 5, 1925 in Charlotte, the son of Ira Marvin and Ruby Mary (Love) Faulkner. Lynn was a member of Robbins United Methodist Church. Lynn was employed with Allied Products, Motor Wheel, and retired from Eaton Rapids Public Schools in 1990.

Lynn was preceded in death by his wife, Anna M. in 1991; daughter, Diane Moss; brother, Hugh Faulkner; and three sisters, Ilah Faulkner, Alta Poskey and IvaDean Dickinson.

Lynn is survived by his daughter, Dawne (Kenneth) Burch of Lansing; two sons, Donald (Jeannine) Faulkner of Eaton Rapids and Dale (Barbara) Faulkner of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Carrol (Dorothy) Faulkner of Battle Creek and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with interment following at Potterville Cemetery, Potterville. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Lynn Faulkner.

Lillian Feller

Lillian J. Feller, 92, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008. Mrs. Feller was born March 28, 1916, in Manville, NJ, the daughter of Andrew and Minnie (Hartwick) Johnson.

Mrs. Feller enjoyed sewing and knitting, working in her yard and baking pies. She was a member of The Grange in Somerville, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Feller; second husband, Leslie Theis; sister, Anna and brother, Siegfred.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Mensing, Jon Feller, Penny (Bill) Martin and Chris (Nancy) Feller; six grandchildren, William (Anna) and Craig Martin, Nyk Feller, Lynne LaFever, Beth (Joe) Nahama and Tiffany Mensing; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Cade Nahama.

Private family services will take place at a later date.

Charles Fhaner

Charles H. Fhaner, 86, of Charlotte, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at his residence. Charles was born June 11, 1921 in Windsor Township, Eaton County the son of Howard and Julia (Sechman) Fhaner and was a lifelong Eaton County resident.

He was a 1938 Graduate of Potterville High School and served in the U. S. Army Infantry during World War Two mainly in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre being awarded three Bronze Battle Stars. He was employed at General Motors in Lansing from where he retired in 1983 after 24 years of service and had worked as an auto body repairman in the area. He was a member of the Charlotte American Legion Post #42 and the First Baptist Church of Charlotte. He enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing, hunting, woodcarving and woodcrafts.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Newell) Fhaner; four children, David (Susan) Fhaner of Marshall, Susan (Lonn) Spencer of Ceresco, Rosalie (David) Welch of Battle Creek and Michael (Witney) Fhaner of Kent, OH; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Becktel of Charlotte and numerous area relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Robin Crouch of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may go to the First Baptist Church or the Salvation Army. Envelopes available at the funeral home.

Donna Fifield

Ms. Donna M. Fifield, 78, of Vermontville, passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 peacefully at Eaton Community Hospice, in Charlotte. Ms. Fifield was born in Lansing, on Dec. 3, 1929, the daughter of the late Theodore Wade and Vernie Swain.

She was raised in the Lansing area and attended Everett High School graduating in 1948. She continued her education by attending college where she studied art. She was a former member of the Eagles in Woodland, and enjoyed spending time with her family, being in her yard admiring her flowers and watching John Wayne movies.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Fifield who passed away in 1969; her six siblings; and her grandson, Donnie Flory.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Nicki (Oren) Gillett, Debbie (Randy) Baker, Melissa (Larry) Dockter, and Valerie (Daryl) Vaughan; son, AC "Sparky" (Cindy) Gilmore; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at the Daniels Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 28, with Nicki Gillette officiating. Interment took place immediately following the funeral service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.

Family request donations to Eaton Community Hospice or The family.

Funeral Services have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.
