Eunice Cornish

Eunice Jo Cornish, of Nashville, passed away Thursday Oct. 11, 2007 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing at the age of 66. She was born Dec. 26, 1940 in Mulliken, the daughter of Leo George and Isa (Huffman) Davis.

On Dec. 5, 1959, Eunice married Charles A. Cornish in Mulliken. The couple would have been married 48 years in December. Eunice was a stay at home mom while both her boys were growing up. When her youngest child started college, she decided to go also. She received her associates degree from Lansing Community College, then went on to complete her Teaching Degree at Olivet College, and then was near completion of her Masters at Western Michigan University. Eunice was a High School English Teacher at Barry Co. Christian School for 10 years. She had a love for reading books, and Literature being her favorite. She also had a love of music, and her love for Gospel Quartets, and she was a member of the Choir at Nashville Baptist Church for years, and taught Sunday School, and was an accomplished seamstress.

Mrs. Cornish was preceded in death by both her parents, two brothers, Kenneth Davis, and George Davis; sister, Dorothy Booher; nephew, Ralph Davis; niece, Rosie Grundy.

She is survived by her husband, Charles A. Cornish; two sons, Cyle (Dyan) Cornish of Grand Ledge, and Ceven Cornish of Lansing; granddaughter, Crysten Cornish; two sisters, Elaine (John) Grundy of Lake Odessa, Geraldine Crist of Mulliken; nieces and nephews, Lisa of Ionia, Karen of Portland, Darlene of Lake Odessa, Frank Crist of Grand Ledge, and Doug Crist of Mulliken, Angie, Steve Davis, Geniese Breeden, Greg and Glen Davis, Joe Booher, and Keith Booher.

Funeral services were held Oct. 16, 2007 at the Nashville Baptist Church with Rev. Deano Lamphere officiating.

Edward Cory

Edward D. Cory, 65, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born June 22, 1941, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Edward and Frances (Hanna) Cory.

As a child, he moved with his family to Negaunee, and graduated from Negaunee High School in 1959. Ed received his B.S. degree from Northern Michigan University in 1963, his M.S. from Iowa State University in 1964, and his Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University in 1974. He taught drafting at Washington Senior High School in Sioux Falls, SD, before joining the faculty at Penn State. Moving to Big Rapids in 1984, Ed spent the remainder of his career teaching in the graduate program in career technical education at Ferris State, retiring in January of 2004.

Ed was a communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Big Rapids, serving as a vestryman, a member of the Property Commission, and sang in the church choir. In 1963, he married the former Kathleen Ann Kittinger, who survives.

Also surviving are their children, Kimberly (Christopher) Stoner of Lansing, Tamara (Jason) Belcher of Vancouver, WA, Christina (Matthew) Bell of Kiowa, CO, and Dana of Big Rapids; seven grandchildren; his sister Susan Becker of Fayetteville, NC; and dear friend Bethyne Hamelund of Big Rapids.

Funeral services were held June 22 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Big Rapids, with Rev. Richard Shinn officiating. Burial was in the Negaunee City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in his name for St. Andrew's may be left at the church or funeral home.

Richard Charles Coulon

Richard Charles Coulon, age 76, of Eaton Rapids passed away on Friday, April 27, 2007 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born in Adrian, MI on June 9, 1930 the son of George and Bernice (Zemlo) Coulon, deceased. Dick graduated from Adrian High School in 1948 where he was named Adrian High School Athlete of the Year. he graduated from Michigan State University in 1952 and later did post graduate studies at Illinois Institute of Technology. After graduation, Dick was appointed second lieutenant in the US Army and served with distinction in the Korean War and was discharged as a Captain. Upon being discharged, he joined Consumers Power as a graduate student in training, and retired as Corporate Senior Gas Consultant (Gas Utilization) after 39 years of service. Dick was also very active in numerous civic and church activities. He served as the Lansing President of the Industrial Executives Club; Mason City Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem; President of the Nevis Lake Home Owners Association; VFW All State Post Commander for the State of Michigan; Mason Kiwanis Club; and numerous other service organizations. Dick was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Eaton Rapids, where he found great salvation. He was also preceded in death by his wife Beverly Coulon in 2005; aunts and uncles, Mike and Stan Zemlo, Alfred Coulon all of Adrian.

He is survived by his daughter, Ann (Len) Bean of East Lansing; 2 sons, Craig (Robbyn) of Noblesville, IN and Rick (Sherri) of Cummings, GA; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; 6 step-children, Barbara (Dave) Scheider of Eaton Rapids, Kim Sherman of Eaton Rapids, Joe (Sherri) Mills of Eaton Rapids, Chris (Karen) Mills of Concord, Mike Mills of Middleville, KY and Ted Mills of Eaton Rapids; 16 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren; one brother, Donald Coulon of Amana, IA.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the First Baptist Church 9220 Kinneville Rd., Eaton Rapids at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids with Full Military Honors provided by the VFW Post #6986 Onondaga. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service time at the church. For those desiring memorial gifts may be made to either the First Baptist Church in Eaton Rapids or the University of Michigan Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, in memory of Richard C. Coulon.

Doris Cox

Doris (Wilson) Cox, 85, of Upland, CA, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007. She was born Nov. 5, 1922.

Doris was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Charlotte, American Legion Aux. #30, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2215, both of CA. Doris did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society and Meals On Wheels while living in Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her current husband, Robert D. Cox; and former husband of 51 years, Herman R. Wilson; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wilson; son-in-law, Thomas Wiseman; brother, Richard Dahlhouser; and sister, Fran Jocobs.

Surviving are her devoted caregiver, Judy Choat; two sons, R. Scott Wilson (Krystyna) of Charlotte and Walter “Bud” Wilson (Sally Jean) of South Bend, IN; daughter, Betty M. Wiseman of Jenison; two grandsons, Jeff Wilson and Eric Wiseman; two granddaughters, Carmen McDonald and Erin Parkin; and seven great grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or VNA Hospice of Claremont, CA.

Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing. A memorial will be held at a later date.

Robert Cox

Robert Dale Cox passed away Nov. 20, 2007 in Upland, CA. He was born in Charlotte on April 12, 1922.

Bob jointed the Army at the beginning of WWII and was honorably discharged in 1943. After the war, Bob moved out to Pomona, CA in search of adventure. Bob was a man of many talents from engineer, gold prospector in the jungles of South America, gas station owner, to a farmer raising oranges, and was a carpenter in his father’s construction company. Bob owned his own engineering company called R.D. Cox, Inc., and was proud his company helped lead the aircraft industry with many of its advances in technology.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Edna Koller Cox in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Cox; his caregiver, Judy Choat; his sons, Russell J. Kendall and Robert R. Kendall; and his step-children, Scott Wilson, (Walter) Bud Wilson, and Betty M. Wiseman.

Private funeral services were held Nov. 28, 2007 at Pomona Cemetery in Pomona, CA.

In memory of Bob, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and VNA Hospice of Claremont.

Betty Lou Crabtree

Betty Lou Crabtree, wife, grandmother and great grandma went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007. Mrs. Crabtree was born June 13, 1934 in Eaton County, the daughter of Newton and Doris (Wright) Powers. She was raised in Eaton County and lived in Charlotte throughout her life. She married Charles Darrah Crabtree June 27, 1949. They raised their five children in Eaton County. She retired after 25 years at Carefree in Charlotte.

She will always and forever be remembered for her big heart and open door policy to help them in need.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles; daughters, Sharon (Troy) Foster, Lou Ann (Tim) Primm; sons, Charles (Deb), Dale and Norman; 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brother, Richard Powers and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Clayton and daughter-in-law, Sonja.

Funeral services at Pray Funeral Home will be 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 25 with Charles Jenson officiating. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo Township.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Family. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Sonja R. Crabtree

Sonja R. Blankenship Crabtree, 46, of Mason, died Jan. 2, 2007. Mrs. Blankenship Crabtree was born Feb. 25, 1960 in Lansing, the daughter of Larry and Deanna (Klingbeil) Foster.

She is survived by her sons, Joshua and Jeremy Crabtree; fiancé, Dale Crabtree; brother, Sonny (Connie) Foster of Iron River; brother, Marty (Kathy) Foster of Stanwood; half-brother, Joe Wheeldon.

Graveside services were held Jan. 5 at Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo Township. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Assembly of God. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Roxie Craft

Roxie Craft, 84, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007.

Roxie was born Aug. 22, 1922 in Breathitt County Ky., the daughter of Huey and Vada (Howard) Craft.

Preceded in death by her daughter, Elaine Craft, and son, Ronnie Craft, Roxie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clyde Craft; daughters, Paulette (Bob) Swartout, Janie (Terry) Eaton, Judy Craft and Dolores Craft, all of Eaton Rapids; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and sister, Lolma Boatwright of Florida.

Graveside services were held Monday, June 4, 2007 at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Arrangements were handled by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Faith Assembly of God Church, Leslie, MI, in memory of Roxie Craft.

James Robert Crall

James Robert Crall of Eaton Rapids, age 83, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Eaton Rapids. James was born June 21, 1924 in Hillsdale, MI, the son of Charles H. and Emma (Salisbury) Crall. He was a Master Sgt. with the U.S. Army during WWII and Korea and later a member of Charlotte VFW Post #2406. James retired from G.M. in 1986 after 33 years of service. He enjoyed cutting, splitting and selling firewood. Preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mike McCune; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy J. (Cowles); daughter, Teresa “Terri” McCune of Eaton Rapids; son, Michael (Lori) Crall of Pontiac; 7 grandchildren, Brandon McCune, Molly Crall, and Mindy Crall, Beth Kessler, Michelle Sweet, Leann Huntley, Nicolena Wojciechowski; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ed Crall of Litchfield, George (Hazel) Crall of Homer; 2 sisters, Grace Brink of Hillsdale, Nina Wood of Jonesville.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Marty Debow, Pastor of the Robbins United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids, officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to either the Eaton Rapids Medical Center or the American Cancer Society in memory of James R. Crall.
