Clarence Martens

Clarence L. Martens, 89, of Bellevue, died peacefully on May 31 at home. He was born July 19, 1917, in Bellevue to Rupert and Louise (Gasser) Martens.

He attended Bellevue Schools and served as a air crew chief in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Following the war he returned to Bellevue and purchased a family farm. He also clerked for local auctions, was a school bus driver and hauled agricultural lime. Clarence also served as the Bellevue Township supervisor and treasurer for many years.

He was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church and it's Men's Club. He was also a member of the Bellevue Conservation Club; a past member of Bellevue Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. He was an avid golfer and formed the Bellevue Golf League in 1972. He scored a hole-in-one in St. Ignace in 1998. Clarence also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

He married Beverly Burt on August 26, 1947, she survives. Also surviving are son, Jim (Eva) Martens of Bowling Green, Kentucky; daughters, Susie (Alvin) Butler of Nashville and Cindy (Mike) Parkinson of Bellevue; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of his life took place June 4 at Bellevue United Methodist Church with Rev. Virginia Heller, officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue with military honors.

Memorials may be made to Bellevue United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Daniel Leigh Martens

Daniel Leigh Martens, 62, of Charlotte, died Jan. 7, 2007. Mr. Martens was born Feb. 21, 1944 in Marshall, the son of Keith and Florence Martens.

Mr. Martens retired in 2004 from GM after 41 years as a skilled tradesman. He loved his family, nature and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was a willing helper to anyone who needed it.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; daughter, Terri (Frank) Combs of Olivet; son, Keith Martens and his fiancé, Sue Ruab of Charlotte; mother, Florence McAllister; granddaughters, Shawdai and Kailee Combs and Kari Martens; and sister, Anita (Jerry) Dowell of Battle Creek.

Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at St. Mary's Church in Charlotte with Father Denis Spitzley officiating. If desired, contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Heartland Hospice, 865 S. Cedar St, Mason, MI 48854.

Edith V. Martin

Edith V. Martin, 91, of Charlotte, died May 28, 2007.

She was born in Marbone, Ky. June 2, 1915 the daughter of Billy and Clare (Bevins) Martin. Mrs. Martin was an adventurer, she loved to ride the roller coasters at Kings Island, going camping, being a sports enthusiast and spending time in the great outdoors. She enjoyed working in her garden growing flowers and vegetables and crocheting, she crocheted Micki's wedding dress.

She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Bartrom.

Surviving are her daughter Micki (Mauricio) Anzaldua; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and brother, Charles Smith.

Memorial services were held June 1 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Charles Mast

Charles Orlando Mast, of Vermontville, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at the Dimondale Nursing Care Center in Dimondale at the age of 86, where he had resided for the past three years. He was the first born to the late Orlando Jeremiah and Christina Lena Weber Mast of Kempton, Illinois on Dec. 6, 1920.

Charles graduated from Sunfield High School in 1940 and entered into the Army July 1942, where he was a Private with the Detachment Quartermaster Corps (K-9) Division where he trained dogs for special assignments during WWII. He was stationed at Panama Canal with his unit at this time.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Lucille Elsie Larson Mast and daughter, Virginia Ann Weatherbee.

He is survived by his son, Warren Charles and Yvonne Marsh Mast; daughter, Loretta Faye Henigan, and daughter, Charlotte Sue Mast; grandchildren, Malinda Henigan and Javier Ruperto, Tracy Sidles, Brian Mast and Tammy Heifner, Bobby Mast and Elshia Pratt; great-grandchildren, Madison Sidles, Michael Hall, Miriana Ruperto, Lanicia Laguerre, and Bonnie Mast; brothers, Durwood and Madeline Mast of Beaverton, MI, Donald and Shirley Mast of Lake Odessa, MI and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

The family would like to extend a very warm thank-you to the Nursing Staff that cared for our father while he was at Dimondale and all of the staff that visited, picked on and teased him to make it his home. Thank you Gwen Storm and Jennifer Roberts for the long encouraging talks to keep all of our minds at ease. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. We love you Dad!

A memorial service was held Nov. 19, 2007 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, MI with Rev. Bobbie Weller officiating.

The family is being served by the Independent Family Owned Funeral Home in Sunfield: Rosier Funeral Home.

Beatrice Aline McCarthy-Morley

Beatrice Aline McCarthy-Morley went to be with her Lord and Savior July 2, 2007 just 27 days before her 96th birthday. She was born July 29, 1911 to Edwin Earl and Hattie Aline (Angell) Wheeler in Battle Creek, Mich. She was married to Ross W. McCarthy in 1928. She resided from 1937 on a farm Northwest of Leslie, MI with her husband and girls.

She is survived by 3 daughters, June (James) Swan of Eaton Rapids, MI, Loraine (Walter) Murphy of Dandridge, TN and Carol (Donald) Vandeventer of Michigan Center, MI. Eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren. One brother, Edwin Earl Wheeler Jr. of Traverse City, MI. Also many nieces and nephews. She worked 23 years for the State of Michigan and retired in 1967. Then worked for Dart National Bank until 1973. Preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Richard Dale Wheeler, and one sister, Donna Marie Chadwell. Husband Ross W. McCarthy in 1969 and husband Robert L. Morley in 1976 also two infant grandsons. She was a life member of the Order of The Eastern Star Mason Chapter #150. A member of the South Lansing Christian Church. She loved all types of cards, bingo and dancing and received many trophies and plaques for ball room dancing. She spent 18 happy winters in Mesa, Arizona. She loved her large family.

Services were held at Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids on Thursday. The Reverend Steve Klink gave the service. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the Eaton Community Hospice of

Charlotte, MI or any organization of your choice.

Woodrow McCoy

Woodrow McCoy, 94, of Charlotte, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007. Mr. McCoy was born Feb. 13, 1913 in Arkansas.

He was a crane operator and was involved with the Engineers Union.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marillee Kruck of Phoenix, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; son, Stanley (Kathy) McCoy of Charlotte; daughters, Wanda (Lynn) Nemeth of Southbend, IN, Waneeta (Denny) Ott of Galien, Faith VanDyke of Edwardsburg, Hope (Bill) Dean of Baroda, Virginia (Jack) VanderStreek of Longwood, FL; stepson, Dr. John (Barbara) Thiel of Charlotte.

Funeral services were held Sept. 5, 2007 at Pray Funeral Home with Sarah Friesen-Carper officiating.

Michael McCune

Michael A. “Mike” McCune, 62, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 in Eaton Rapids. Mike was born Feb. 21, 1944 in Moline, Ill., the son of Albert Richard and Donna Leah (Ryan) McCune.

He and his father went into partnership to help run WestWood Implement, which was a John Deere Dealership in Grand Ledge in the 1960’s. Mike retired in 2004 after 36 years with G.M., was an active Great Lakes boater, loved fishing and hunting in Texas and Wyoming, and just loved the “great out-of-doors.” He was very involved with his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Teresa A. (Crall); four daughters, Beth (David) Kessler of Bath, Michelle (Patrick) Sweet of Eaton Rapids, LeAnn Huntley of Bath, Nicolena (Kevin) Wojciechowski of Detroit; one son, Brandon Crall-McCune of Eaton Rapids; nine grandchildren; father and mother-in-law, James and Dorothy Crall of Eaton Rapids; sister, Holly Beth McCune of Arizona; brother-in-law, Mike (Lori) Crall of Pontiac; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Sparrow Hospice in memory of Mike McCune.

June Ann McGeachy

June Ann McGeachy of Eaton Rapids, MI. July 19, 1923 – Aug. 31, 2007. June was born to the parents of Wilma and Robert Simpson. She was a fantastic person that lived life to the fullest. A wonderful wife, mother, grandma, aunt, and true friend with great wit and optimistic views that made everyone want to be around her. Her cinnamon rolls, fun and laughter will always be remembered, and she will be missed by all. The lord knows he has a beautiful angel.

She is survived by her husband Bud (Harold) of 61 years. Children, Jill McGeachy, Jan Lynch, Gail (Raymond) Thompson, grandchildren, Micah (Erica), Luke McLaughlin, Vanessa, Garrison Thompson, great grandson Asher.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6th, 2007 at Robbins United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids MI. Minister Marty Debow officiating. Family will receive friends at the church 1 hour prior to memorial. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Robbins United Methodist Women’s Society at 6419 Bunker Rd. Eaton Rapids, MI 44827.

Dolores “Dee” A. McGee

Dolores “Dee” A. McGee, age 71 of Eaton Rapids died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Eaton Community Hospice with family at her bedside. She was born September 5, 1935 in Charlotte the daughter of Ernest and Aletha (Nichols) Palmer. Dee was a former waitress at the Keg Bar in Eaton Rapids. She enjoyed going to garage sales with her sister and loved coffee time with her friends. She was most happy during hunting season cooking wild game for her boys. Preceding her in death was a son, Bugsy and daughter, YoYo; sister Irene Vlick and brother, Robert Palmer.

She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Chuck McGee; 7 sons, Frank (Renee) Cervantes of Caruthersville, Missouri, Tony (Linda) Cervantes of Eaton Rapids, Rick (Cheryl) Cervantes of Cottage Grove, Tennessee, Marc (Julie) Cervantes of Phoenix, Nick Cervantes of Owosso, Tino Cervantes of Charlotte and Paul (Beverly) Wandel of Mulligan; 39 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; sister Pauline Eaton of Charlotte and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on June 2, 2007 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Ben Constantine, officiating. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids with her sons as pallbearers. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice at 2675 S. Cochran Rd. Charlotte, MI 48813 in memory of Dee McGee.
