Richard E. Gill

Richard Eugene “Gene” Gill, 76 of Charlotte, passed away Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Eaton Community Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Gill was born, November 23, 1929, in Arrowsmith, Ill., the son of Richard P. and Winifred (Bunn) Gill. He graduated from J.W. Sexton High School in 1947. He served in the Army National Guard from 1951 to 1961 and was an Administrative Officer for the US Department of Agriculture, Plant and Animal Health Services for 28 years until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, Gene enjoyed many local activities. He was a season ticket holder for the Lansing Lugnuts. His fondest memory was the night he won a John Deer tractor and the honor to throw the first pitch at the Lugnuts game. Gene ran the Charlotte Frontier Days Festival Information Booth for 15 years and attended many Hospice Fund Raisers.

He is survived by his wife Winnifred “Tiny” Gill; daughter, Linda Gill of Charlotte; grandchildren, Bobbie Lynn Spangler (Jeffrey Hudnut), Jeffrey Scott Spangler, both of Charlotte, Bryan Matthew Tragger, Tai McCoy, Allen McCoy and their mother Donna Wadleigh, all of Speedway, Ind.; great grandchildren, James and David Strayhorn of Speedway, Ind.; brothers, Raymond Emerson (Martha) Gill of Lansing, Charles Daniel (Pat) Gill, of Sears, Rene Gill of Muskegon; sisters, Mary (Wendell) Clinton, Suzanne (Larry) Lucas, and Melanie Miller, all of Lansing; and good friends, Bonnie and Wayne Carey of Lansing.

Gill was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Willie R. Gill, and his parents. Funeral services were held Monday, April 24, 2006, at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Reverend Keith Rupp officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Lansing. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to either the Eaton Community Hospice, or Hospice of Lansing. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home.

Edwin W. Gillett

Edwin W. Gillett, 80, of Bellevue passed away, Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006 at home after a long illness. Mr. Gillett was born in Bellevue, Sept. 16, 1925 to August and Julia (Suley) Gillett.

He graduated from Bellevue High School and entered the U.S. Navy, serving four years during World War II. Edwin retired as a steam and pipe-fitter from Post Cereals in 1987. He also owned the Plezall Bar from 1949 until 1951. Edwin was a member of the Nashville Post of VFW and enjoyed storytelling and listening to music.

Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Knight McCllellan) Gillett in 1964. In 1969 he married Evelyn Horn. She survives.

He was also preceded in death by son, Richard Gillett in 1995 and grandson, Christopher Fay Gillett in 1987.

Also surviving are children, Virginia (Frank) Dimercurio of St. Clair Shores, Tom (Pam) Gillett of Snellville, Georgia, David Gillett of Bellevue, Sherry (Trav) Stephen of Brigham City, Utah, Gary Abbott and Mari Abbott-Demeritt, both of Quincy; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Gillett and William Gillett of Bellevue; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Aug. 23 at Bellevue United Methodist Church, Rev. William Sanders and Rev. Virginia Heller, officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorials donations may go to Bellevue Good Samaritan Fund or Barrier Free Fund.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Homer Maxwell Gillette

Homer Maxwell Gillette, age 86, died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He was born October 8, 1919 in Springport, Michigan the son of Belva M. and William A. Gillette. Homer graduated from Springport High School in 1937. Homer Gillette started his work career as a mechanic at the Lucas Auto Sales and Service in Springport and later became the son-in-law of June and Frank Lucas. On May 4, 1943 Homer married Trisa Lucas. Most of Homer’s work career was spent as an engineer, many years as a chief engineer, on the car ferries between Ludington, Michigan and Wisconsin. Even before retirement Homer and Trisa established a residence in the warmer, drier climate of Columbus, New Mexico. Homer spent nearly 30 years with no snow to shovel or grass to mow. Due to declining health in May of 2004 he moved to Jacksonville, Florida to live with his daughter Natalie and her husband Norman Covert. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Trisa, who died April 5, 1993 in Texas, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his son; Frank (Pam) Gillette of California, daughters; Natalie (Norman) Covert of Florida, Tina (Rick) Heath of Michigan, 10 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a brother; Samuel (Lita) Gillette of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, brother-in-law Ray Lucas of Skanee, Michigan, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services were held on June 12, 2006 at the Jacksonville Beach Church of Christ. Memorial gifts may be made to the Columbus Historical Society, P.O. Box 562, Columbus, New Mexico 88029.

Donna J. Glasscock

Donna “Dinky” Jean Glasscock, 59, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006. Mrs. Glasscock was born May 29, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Edward and Wanda (McVicker) Jones.

Mrs. Glasscock loved being with her family and participating in all family gatherings. She enjoyed making crafts, working in her flower garden and sewing. She was active in the Scouts when her children were involved.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Neil Glasscock; daughter, Deanna (Robert) Shoup of Charlotte; daughter, Cheryl Carter (Al Endsley) of Charlotte; son, Allen Glasscock (Connie Gilbert) of Bellevue; son, Daniel (Debra) Glasscock of Bellevue; seven grandchildren; brother, Edward (Poppy) Jones, Jr. of Potterville; sister, Judith (Ray) Giglio of Follansbee, WV and brother, Perry Jones of Bethany, WV.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 11 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Ron Brown officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the North Cedar Street Church of Christ Building Fund in Mason.

George A. Gonser

George A. Gonser, 63, of Charlotte, died July 11, 2006. Mr. Gonser was born May 6, 1943 in Charlotte the son of Ernest George and Bernice (Jackson) Gonser.

Mr. Gonser worked for Hoover for 27 years and retired from Charlotte Anodizing as a supervisor. He was a very gifted artist and woodworker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, brain teasers and puzzles and had a vast Pepsi collection.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roger Cortright and Kenneth Gonser; sisters, baby Alice, Lola Roiter, Rosemary, Annabelle and Grace.

He is survived by his wife, C. "Jean"; sons, Rusty (Elaina) Gonser of Indiana, Shane (Kathy) Gonser of Charlotte; daughter, Jeana Gonser of Charlotte; extended family, Lonnie, Julie, Paula and Carter Jones; three grandchildren, Shelby, Kollin and Caleb Gonser; brothers, Archie (Ardean) Gonser of Vermontville, Kenny (Ruth) Cortright of Eaton Rapids, Herbert (Geneva) Wilson of Charlotte and sister Bertha Goelz of Holland.

Funeral services were held July 14 with Reverend Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Barry-Eaton Hospice or Eaton Community Hospice.

Delores Oda (Cranston) Goodall

Delores Oda (Cranston) Goodall, of Duck Lake, born January 1, 1932, went to be with the Lord on her 52nd wedding anniversary, February 14, 2006. She fought a courageous 13 year battle with cancer. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Terra Ceia Bay (Florida) and Duck Lake Country Club. She also loved music, crossword puzzles and hummingbirds.

She graduated from Howell High School in 1950. She attended business college, had been employed at Michigan State University, and retired from Albion College.

She is survived by her husband Robert Goodall, her 3 children, Allen Goodall of Mason, MI, Cheryl (Kooter) Platt and her children Lyndsey & Jason VanAken, of Eaton Rapids, Barry (Mable) Goodall of Bristol, IN, and 8 grandchildren.

She was a wonderful wife and mother whom we will all miss and cherish in our hearts until we meet again at the Gates of Heaven.

A small memorial service was held in Florida on February 17th, and another memorial service is still being planned for Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Doris L. Goodrich

Doris L. Goodrich, 88 of Olivet, formerly of Charlotte, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at the Voss Christian Elder Care Adult Foster Care Home, Olivet, where she had been a resident for one and a half years receiving wonderful care. She was born Nov. 2, 1917 in Jackson, the daughter of Ivan and Ella (Hahn) Goodrich.

She lived in Brookfield Township until graduating from Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing and then moved to California in 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by three sisters, Thelma Barnhart of Olivet, Yvonne (Leland) Williamson of Charlotte and Naoma Moore of Grand Ledge. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial graveside service was held June 24 at the Perry Cemetery on Stevens Hwy. in Brookfield Township.

Arrangements by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Aundria L. Graham

Aundria Lynn Graham, 63, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006. Mrs. Graham was born March 6, 1943, the daughter of Clyde and Gerthine (Cole) Eveland.

Aundria was preceded in death by her father Clyde and older brother Clyde and an older sister Judy Vandewater.

She is survived by her mother, Gerthine; husband, Richard; son, Norman (Connie) Graham; daughter, Kimberlie (Dennis) Haefele; son, Gerald Graham; daughter, Kellie (Garett) Madry; son, William Graham; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Nelson Eveland, Lowen Eveland, Kalen Eveland, Rick Eveland, Donald Eveland, Mike Eveland, Jason Eveland; sisters, Helen Lofquist, Darlene Vaughn and Renell Rassmusen.

Funeral services were held Sept. 8 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo Township.
