Jesse Russell Jordan Jr.

Jesse Russell Jordan Jr., 76, of Eaton Rapids, passed away to be with our Lord Nov. 25, 2006. He was born July 8, 1930 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Jesse Russell Sr. and Helena Mae (French) Jordan.

Jesse graduated from Charlotte High School in 1949 and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army as a Corporal, where he earned medals, including the Bronze Star for Valor. He married Betty Lou Janetzke on June 6, 1953 and they had two daughters, Vicki and Lauri. Jesse worked in the forging industry for many years as a plant manager, personnel director and other positions in both Michigan and Indiana. He also was an active and leading member of his local churches. Jesse was known as a unique and well-loved uncle and friend to many.

He was a very loyal and brave man who cared for his wife, Betty, until her death from Alzheimers in 1998. As a hobby, he liked to play the stock market, and was proud to call himself a "grumpy old man." He had a famous dry sense of humor, enjoyed enticing friends into political discussions and enjoyed life-long special friendships with the Loughans, Norrises and Sparks. He was proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed helping with their college educations.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Bill; and beloved wife of 45 years, Betty Lou.

Jesse is survived by daughters, Vicki (Jon) Ripley of Lansing and Lauri Jordan of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Paula (Scott) Shaw, Wendy and Jordan Ripley; sisters, Doris "Dori" (Albert) Adams of Eaton Rapids, Barb (Leo) Jones of Tennessee; brother, Steve (Shirley) Haskell of Wisconsin; special aunt, Arlene May; and many beloved family and dear friends.

At Jesse's request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, you may make memorial donations to your favorite charity in his memory.

Lorraine L. Jowett

Lorraine L. Jowett “Frenchy”, age 80 of Lansing and formerly of Eaton Rapids died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at the Hospice House of Mid Michigan. She was born March 17, 1926 in Bay City, the daughter of Joseph and Leanora (Yax) DeVeau. Lorraine grew up at the V.F.W. National Home in Eaton Rapids and graduated form the Eaton Rapids High School, class of 1945. She retired from the State of Michigan Division of Policy and Procedure at the Family Independent Agency. Lorraine served for many years as Treasurer of the V.F.W. National Home Alumni. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Poyer; son-in-law, Roger Wicks; and 3 brothers, Elston, Roy and Dwayne DeVeau.

She is survived by her 3 children, Julie Wicks of Lansing, Theresa (Joe) Stubblefield of Williamston and Dwayne (Martha) Gordon of Charlotte, 1 step-daughter, Suzie (Marty) Backofen; 7 grandchildren, Tim (Serene), Brian, Jessica (Josh), Joe III (Meggie), Cory (Rachelle), Mickey and Jamie; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special and dearest friend, Eva Kibiloski.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 21, 2006 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Richard Preston, officiating. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery I Eaton Rapids. Pallbearers were Joe Stubblefield Jr., Joe Stubblefield III, Brian Wicks, Tim Poyer, Cory Maurer and Joshua Stone. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Mid Michigan at 1210 W. Saginaw St. Lansing, MI 48915.

Inez L. Kalbarczyk

Inez L. Kalbarczyk, 91, formerly of Grand Ledge, died Sunday morning, March 5, 2006 at St. Lawrence Dimondale Center.

Mrs. Kalbarczyk was born Dec. 29, 1914 in Jackson, a daughter of Charlie and Martha (Johnston) Porter. She married Alex P. Kalbarczyk Nov. 10, 1945 in Jackson; he preceded her in death Jan. 30, 1994.

Surviving are: two sisters, Doris Tanier of Horton and Cora Nichols of Jackson; nieces and nephews; and special friends, the Buchholz family.

Services were held March 8 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Pastor Andrew Ford officiating. Interment was at Needmore Cemetery.

Donna C. Keesler

Donna C. Keesler of Onondaga, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo and two brothers, Richard and Stanley Hards. Donna and Milo were foster parents for numerous years, receiving foster parents of the year awards many times. Donna was a Life Member of the Springport VFW Post 6056 Adams & Rockey Women’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by her seven children. Michael (Carol) Keesler, Karen (Douglas) Gibbs, Norman (Lorrie) Keesler, Tom (Maureen) Keesler, Donald (Linda) Keesler, Karri (Andrew) Howe, B.J. (Troy) Grivet, 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, one brother, Charles (Norma) Hards, one sister, Esther (Bill) Gurnee, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Leslie Chapel, on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Rockney Wing officiating. Interment will follow at Onondaga Cemetery. For those who wish memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Grace Church of Eaton Rapids.

Sharon L. Kellogg

Sharon Lynn Kellogg, 69, died on Nov. 12, 2006. She was born in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Sharon was a passionate gardener, cat lover and an avid devotee of politics. She spent her life in service to her family, her community and her state. Her affection for politics began as a staff member for former Govs. George Romney and William Milliken and continued with her ownership of the legislative reporting service, Michigan Information and Research Service (MIRS). As the owner of Kellogg Realty, Sharon was committed to downtown Lansing and encouraged her clients to choose urban homesteading. Moving to her Ionia Street home in 1979, Sharon considered herself an urban pioneer. She lived there until she retired and moved to Portland, Oregon in 2004. She was a founding member of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, former chair of the Lansing Historic District Commission and former chair of the Lansing Police Board. She was appointed by former Gov. John Engler to be chair of the Capitol Parks Commission and to serve on the Capitol Sesquicentennial Commission. Her zeal for living, spirit of adventure and commitment to learning were admired by all and will be missed.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, James C. Kellogg, in 1987.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Brittany; her stepchildren, Sam and Sarah; and her granddaughters, Lindsay and Julia. She also is survived by her aunt, Catherine Frey of Chillicothe.

A memorial service was held Nov. 24 with Pastor Cindy Skutar officiating. Sharon was laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Mary M. Kelly

Mary Margaret Kelly, 90, of Charlotte, died Thursday, March 16, 2006.

Mrs. Kelly was a registered nurse.

William H. Kimball

William H. Kimball, 92, of Dimondale, died Dec. 17, 2006 at his home. Mr. Kimball was born Aug. 25, 1914 in Lansing, a son of William R. and Mary A. (French) Kimball and had been a resident of Dimondale since he was five years old.

He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the First Presbyterian Church of Dimondale, Dimondale F. & A.M. #449 and the O.E.S., and a charter member of the Dimondale Garden Club.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert; sister, Marion Lamb; and granddaughter, Sherry Lynne Kimball.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beulah; four children, Marybelle (Joe) Marciniak of Hersey, Robert (Jean) Kimball of Rose City, Roseanne (Dale) Knisely of Eaton Rapids, Jeffery Kimball of Grand Ledge; 13 grandchildren, Michael Marciniak, Mari-Jo Crow, Angela Marciniak, Joseph Marciniak Jr., Kimberlee White, Cheryl Kimball, Julie Knisely, David Knisely, Jennifer Krawczyk, Melissa Kimball, Nicholas Kimball, Page Kimball and Jaden Kimball; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his sister, B. Jean (Charles) Baker of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale, with Rev. Sharon Zurakowski officiating. Interment was in Dimondale Cemetery. A Masonic service was held Dec. 20. Pallbearers were Mari-Jo Crow, Cheryl Kimball, Nicholas Kimball, David Knisely, Joseph Marciniak Jr., Michael Marciniak, Delmar Wagner and Douglas White. Honorary bearers were Jaden Kimball, Melissa Kimball, Nicholas Kimball, Page Kimball, Julie Knisely, Jennifer Krawczyk, Angela Marciniak and Kimberlee White.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, Mich. 48813.

Harold “Budd” Jay King

Harold "Budd" Jay King, 24, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006. Mr. King was born Dec. 24, 1981 in Albion, the son of James and Beverly (Case) King.

Mr. King was an exceptional cook who loved what he did by demonstrating it through his career as a cook in a nursing home. He enjoyed video games, fixing and repairing things and was a friend to many. One of Mr. King's greatest joys was his son, Kai.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Amanda.

He is survived by his son, Kai King; girlfriend, Katrina Smith of Vermontville; parents, James (Cindy) King of Olivet and Beverly King of Leslie; brother, Shane King of Lansing; sister Akela (Will) Williams of New York; sister, Tanaya King of Georgia; brother, Ryan King of Leslie; sister, Keona King of Leslie and grandmother, Betty King-Beck of Iowa.

Funeral services were held Dec. 11 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Courtney Suntken officiating. Interment was at Kalamo Cemetery in Kalamo Township. If desired memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund for Mr. King's son, Kai.

Kenneth N. King

Kenneth N. King, 95, a long-time resident of the Albion and Duck Lake area, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 31, 1911 on the family farm two miles south of Charlotte, to Forrest D. and Gladys (Greenawalt) King. He was a 1930 graduate of Charlotte High School and graduated from the Warsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1933. In 1935, Mr. King and Ralph Graves established the Graves and King Funeral Home in Albion. After returning from military service in World War II, Mr. King purchased Mr. Graves’ interest and subsequently sold it to William Helrigel, at which time the firm became known as King and Helrigel Home for Funerals. He retired in 1970 and the business was sold to James Tidd.

A past president of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association (1954-1955) and district governor of the National Funeral Directors Association (1955-1959), Mr. King was recognized by the MFDA in 2004 for his service of 70 years as a licensed funeral director. In 1996, he was awarded a life trusteeship with the Michigan Mortuary Science Foundation at Wayne State University.

Mr. King served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a chief pharmacist mate, the last two years aboard the U.S.S. Surf, Mobile Explosive Investigation Unit, in Australia, the Phillipines, New Guinea and the South China Sea. As a proud veteran, he actively participated in the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the China, Burma, India Veterans Association throughout his life.

Mr. King was a member of First United Methodist Church of Albion, a charter and life member of Albion Elks Lodge 1798, VFW Post 3672 and American Legion Post 55, all of Albion. He also served on the boards of the Calhoun County Veterans Affairs Commission, Albion Exchange Club, Albion Area Ambulance Service, Albion Community Chest, and the Albion City Board of Review. He was also an active volunteer with the American Red Cross.

On Aug. 30, 1940, he married H. Elizabeth “Betty” (Clymer), who preceded him in death in 1991. Also preceding him in death were: a son, John Forrest King, in 1963; brother, Keith W. King; and a sister, Rosemary King Ladd.

He is survived by: a son, David C. King of Marshall; a daughter, Carol Jane King of Cedar Grove, N.C.; and a sister, Dale (Betty) Redman of Bradenton, Fla.

Funeral services were held Feb. 23 at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with Rev. Diane Stone of Springport Methodist Church officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Mortuary Science Foundation or to the Albion or Springport Methodist Churches.
