Frances E. Forell

Frances E. (Bryan) Forell, age 85, of Charlotte, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Forell was born Feb. 20, 1918 in Eaton County, the daughter of Ralph and Ethel (Barr) Bryan, and was a life-long Eaton County resident. She was a 1936 graduate of Charlotte High School, had been a member of the WSCS at West Benton Church, the Home Extension Service Club, Eaton County Farm Bureau, and had been active in the PTA. She currently was a member of Gresham United Methodist church. Frances raised her children on their farm and was integral to the family canning business. Flower gardening and her many grandchildren were very special to her. Her special fit of painting was lovingly shared throughout her life with her devoted family.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Jack Forell; four children, Karl Jack (Constance) Forell of Charlotte, Jon (Roberta) Forell of Charlotte, Jean Cheryl Forell of Flint and Lynn (Karen) Forell of Charlotte; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Virginia Dravenstatt of Potterville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Naoma Thorburn; and brother, Donald Bryan.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Kathy Smith of Gresham United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gresham United Methodist Church.

James F. Foster

James Frederick Foster, 69, of Portland, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday afternoon, Jan. 17, 2004 at a Lansing hospital.

Mr. Foster was born Feb. 19, 1934 in Lansing, a son of Oscar and Ruth (Pixley) Foster. He was a retired test car driver for General Motors.

Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, and son-in-law, Steve Fulkerson, both in 1993.

Surviving are his wife, Joan, and her daughter Angle Selden of Portland; his children, Steven (Angie) Foster of Mulliken, Edward Foster of Battle Creek, Darlene (Tim) Spitzley of Lansing, Teresa (Ray) Heinlen of St. Johns, Lisa (Casey) Reynolds of Monmouth, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Lillian (Tom) Connor of Dansville and Marianne Munson of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Jan. 20 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home in Mulliken, with Charles Jenson officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Margaret Francis

Margaret Francis, 83, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004.

Mrs. Francis was born June 18, 1920. She enjoyed playing piano, feeding the birds and her flowers. She was a member of the Charlotte Country Club and enjoyed many rounds of golf and Tuesday afternoon bridge games.

Margaret is survived by son, Tim (Cindy) Francis of Charlotte; daughters, Molly Francis of Chicago, Judy Hackett (Dr. Paul Hyink) of Grand Rapids, Penny (Eugene) McGrath of Burke, Va.; eight grandchildren, Michael, Timothy and David McGrath, Jennifer Calhoun and Daniel Hackett, Lindsay and Scott Francis and Megan Villareal; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 1997, and infant daughter Shelley Jayne in 1944.

Funeral services were held June 12 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Roger Earl Franke

Roger E. Franke, age 65, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, July 2, 2004 at his residence. He was born May 9, 1939 in Springport, Michigan, the son of Stanley and Fern (Fink) Franke. Roger was a retired salesman for University Olds in Lansing and had worked for the Storey organization for over 30 years. He was fond of collecting tractors and loved spending time with his family. Preceding him in death was his wife, Sharon Lee (Graves) in 1993; son, David Mark Franke in 1968; brother, George Franke in 1965 and father, Stanley Franke.

Surviving are 2 children, Roger W. (Sue McDaniels) Franke of Lansing and Stacey (Tim Capel) Franke of Cape Canaveral, FL; mother, Fern Kader of Alma; 2 sisters, Maxine and Mary Jo; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.

Marilyn L. Frankenstein

Marilyn L. Frankenstein, of Bellevue, died March 12, 2004 at home.

She was born April 19, 1929 to John and Edna (Borene) Van Steenbergen in Sioux Falls, S.D.

She graduated from Prairie City, Iowa High School, and Drake University in 1952 and taught school in Belmont, Iowa, Dallas, Texas and Battle Creek.

Marilyn married Waldo E. Frankenstein June 19, 1954 in Prairie City, Iowa. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this June. Waldo survives. Also surviving are daughters, Holl (Ron Baker of Middletown, Ohio, Bridgett (Glenn) Augustine of Bellevue; son, John (Terry) Frankenstein of Escanaba; four grandchildren; and sister, Mona Campbell of Waukon, Iowa.

She was a charter member of PEO, Chapter CR, The Bellevue Village Council, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a board member of the Bellevue Memorial Scholarship Foundation and active in the Bellevue Village Players and made the sets for the school plays. Marilyn loved to sew, read, play golf and spend time at “da camp” in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Services took place March 16 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Battle Creek, with Rev. Gary Seifert officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Bellevue Memorial Scholarship Fund, 210 West St., Bellevue, MI 49021.

Danny L. Frederick

Danny L. Frederick of Lowell, formerly of Lansing and Perry, age 59, died Monday, August 9, 2004 in Lowell. He was born June 3, 1945 in Battle Creek, the son of Kenneth R.B. and Evelyn Wilma (Harper) Frederick. Danny was formerly employed with Motor Wheel for 20 years and currently was employed with Magna Donelly in Alto.

He was a wonderful husband to his wife of 28 years, Shirley; a wonderful father to 4 daughters, Tassie (Marvin) McKenzie of Clarksville, Angela (Roy) Mathers of KY, Tracie DeGood of Lowell, Tammie (Darren) Partridge of Grand Ledge; 1 son, Terry (Chirsty Huhn) Frederick of Lowell and 8 grandchildren. Also surviving are his mother, Evelyn (Don) DeBolt of Eaton Rapids; 3 brothers, John (Mary) DeBolt of Lansing, Donald (Pat) DeBolt Jr. of National City, MI, Robert (Ilaree) DeBolt of St. Louis, MI; 1 sister, Linda DeBolt of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Dimondale. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan, Grand Rapids. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Stanley J. Freer

Stanley J. Freer, age 87, of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 in Charlotte. Stanley was born September 25, 1916 in Charlotte, the son of Frank Elisha and Mabel Dean (Newth) Freer. He was a farmer, a mechanic and retired as an office machine repairman for L.D.S. Office Supply. He was preceded in death by his wife, June E. in 1980, daughter-in-law, Donna, in 1977 and 2 great grandchildren, Ashley and Mackenzie.

Stan is survived by 2 daughters, Vicki Freer of Eaton Rapids, Christine Sutherland of Lansing; 7 sons, Jack Freer, Richard (Vivian) Freer, Joe Freer, all of Eaton Rapids, Melvin (Claudia) Freer of Potterville, David Freer, Dennis Freer, Kim (Carol) Freer, all of Eaton Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Pauline Sacraska of Eaton Rapids; brother-in-law, Eugene (Jane) Layher of Grayling; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rowley of AZ.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2004 (the time is pending). Interment will follow at Munger Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Foundation (Building Fund) in memory of Stanley Freer.

Eve Messer Fugate

Eve Messer Fugate, age 80, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, June 25, 2004, under the loving care of her family and hospice. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Bill, two children, Richard Michael, and James Monroe, 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Mitchell, Medea Fugate, and Hillary Wren Flower.

She is survived by seven children, Ruthann (James) Forner, Paul I (Debbie) Fugate, Reverend Jack (Nancy) Fugate, Frances (John) Barber, David (Glenna) Fugate, Kay (Brian) Raymond, Teresa (Rick) Regenold, 15 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren, and good friend Bob Daniels.

Eve was a member of the Pope United Methodist Church. She loved her family, gardening, watching her birds and was an avid quilter. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Pope United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Jack Fugate and Pastor Steve Meszaros co-officiating. A private interment will be held at the Messer Family Cemetery in Gun Lake at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Hospice of Jackson and Oaklawn or Pope United Methodist Church. Arrangements made by J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Springport Chapel.

Claude E. Fuller

Claude E. Fuller, 63, of Olivet, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004 at his residence.

Claude was born Feb. 16, 1941 in Charlotte, the son of Claude C. and Mabell (Link) Fuller and was a life-long Olivet-area resident. He was employed by Eaton Manufacturing Co. in Marshall, retiring Aug. 12, 1992 after 31.8 years of service. He was a 1958 graduate of Olivet High School, a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge and a member of UAW Local #220 at Eaton Manufacturing Co.

Surviving are his wife, Linda (Wilson) (Adams) Fuller, to whom he was married Aug. 12, 1991; one son, Cary Legr of Grand Rapids; three stepsons, Paul L. (Mary) Adams of Marshall, Gerald Russell (Tina) Adams of Bellevue and Douglas Jason Adams of Olivet; six grandchildren, Jessica Marie Adams, Hallie Leona Adams, Michael Vernon Adams, Gerald Russell Adams II, Mallory Kay Few-Adams and Anna Marie Adams; one brother, Bruce (Donna) Fuller of Olivet; one sister, Barbara (John) Farkas of Lake City; several nieces and nephews; and his dog companion “Susie.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cletus.

Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Michael Fuller officiating. Interment was at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, Battle Creek.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte.
