Vernon E. Hart

Vernon Eugene “Gene” Hart, 74, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at his residence after a battle with lung cancer.

Gene was born April 2, 1930 in Murray, Ky., the son of Vernon V. and Verna Mae (Brown) Hart and had been a Michigan resident since 1936, and a Charlotte resident for 32 years. He was a 1948 graduate of Michigan State University, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte. He had been employed as a Right of Way manager for the Michigan Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985 after 30 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley V. (Mohan) Hart, to whom he was married on Jan. 16, 1960; daughter, Catherine (Carol) Anderson of Lansing; son, Richard (Theresa) Hart of Charlotte; grandchildren, Rachael and Garrett Anderson and Matthew and Jenna Hart; and his sister, Judy (John) Parker of Murray, Ky.

He was preceded in death by son, Michel Hart in 1978.

Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Booth of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Eaton Community Hospice or Youth Haven Ranch.

Lloyd B. Haun

Lloyd B. Haun, 84, of Charlotte, died Friday, March 19, 2004 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Haun was born in Bellevue Township, Eaton County, the son of Orlo and Amanda (Chase) Haun and was a life resident of Eaton County. He was a lifelong farmer and had been employed at Aluminum Extrusions in Charlotte for 20 ˝ years. Previously he had worked at Atlas Drop Forge in Lansing and drove an oil truck for Frank Fleming out of Ainger. Mr. Haun had attended Ainger Bible Church and was a former Walton Township constable. He was a member of the Michigan Livestock Association, Eaton Farm Bureau and had been a member of the Northwest Walton Grange. He enjoyed traveling, camping and watching sports on television.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Crilly) Haun, to whom he was married June 21, 1944; four children, Marilyn Haun of Charlotte, Joyce (Bill Welch) Van Syckle of Charlotte, Roger (Louise) Haun of Charlotte, and Ronald (Elizabeth) Haun of Olivet; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leland and Forrest Haun; and a sister, Wilene Haun Smith.

Funeral services were held March 22 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Scott Brood of Ainger Bible Church officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.

Ialene L. Heath

Ialene L. Heath, age 80, of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004 in Charlotte. Ialene was born October 10, 1923 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Francis and Pearl (Raines) Harvey. She was preceded in death by her mother when she was 18 months old, 3 aunts, Cora Decker, Mary Miller and Sarah Pisel, (all who had a hand in raising her); husband, Donald L. Heath and great-granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth DuBois.

Surviving are her 4 children, William (Diane) Baker, Sheri (Robert) DuBois, both of Eaton Rapids, Traci (Daniel) Chesney of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda Starks of Ypsilanti; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and very dear best friend, Maxine Miller of Eaton Rapids. During her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the greatest joy; she always made time spent with them very special. At Christmas, she always made at least four different kinds of fudge, dozens of cookies, peanut brittle and the list went on. She always insisted that all her grandchildren or great-grandchildren must have enough to take home, regardless of what their parents said.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 7, 2004 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Winford Collins officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Ialene Heath.

James R. Heath

James R. Heath, 69, of Eagle, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, June 28, 2004 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

James was born Nov. 14, 1934 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Charles and Verda (Frechette) Heath. He had been employed as a skilled tradesman for Oldsmobile in Lansing, retiring in 1988 after 35 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Mary (Polhamus) Heath; daughter, Nine Heath of Charlotte; grandson, Anthony Coppola of Buffalo, N.Y.; sisters, Joyce Carter of Sunnyside, Wash., Myrtle Gordier of Marshall and Rhea Betcher of Eaton Rapids; and brother, Martin Heath of Eaton Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Reva Heath; and brothers, Donald and Richard Heath.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Iva L. Heinze

Iva L. Heinze, 86, of Potterville, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004.

Mrs. Heinze was born June 10, 1917 in Kalkaska, the daughter of Edwin and Ida (Miller) Mills. She married William L. Heinze, who preceded her in death in 1972. Mr. and Mrs. Heinze owned and operated Heinze’s Sinclair Service Station in Potterville for many years. Mrs. Heinze was a member of the Potterville United Methodist church and United Methodist Women Group and had been the Benton Township Treasurer for over 17 years. She also worked at Charlotte Auto Parts from 1967 to 1984.

She is survived by her son, William (Nancy) Heinze and two daughters, Shirley (Frank) Wright and Barbara (Larry) Reed, all of Potterville; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Reatha Loomis of Mt. Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Heinze; a sister, Julia; and brothers, John, Russell, Orville, Ervin and Raymond Mills.

Funeral services were held Jan. 14 at Potterville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Becky Morrison officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Potterville United Methodist Church or Barry-Eaton Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Dorothy C. Hendon

Dorothy Charlotte Hendon, age 83, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.

Mrs. Hendon was born Oct. 4, 1920 to Nellie and Edwin Leisman in Gleason, Wis. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and the Chicago School of Music and was also a graduate of Taylor University in Indiana. Dorothy married Melvin Hendon on Sept. 7, 1946 on her parents’ front lawn in Bellevue and continued living in Bellevue for 43 years. She taught piano and organ in the Battle Creek and Marshall area and accompanied many choirs and soloists. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charlotte, and enjoyed knitting, driving across country, and the challenge of keyboard instruments.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Melvin; daughter, Charlotte (Don) Austin of Bellevue; sons, Tedd (Dena) Hendon of Charlotte, Bruce (Gayla) Hendon of Elgin, Ill., and David (Susan) Hendon of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held April 16b at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Memorials may be sent to the music department of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but cards may be sent to Melvin Hendon, c/o Tedd Hendon, 1284 Stewart Rd., Charlotte, MI 48813. The family is being served by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Bradley J. Heniser

Bradley J. Heniser, age 43 of Eaton Rapids, died November 19, 2004 in Lansing, MI. He loved to hunt, fish and snowmobile with his kids. Bradley was an avid outdoorsman and loved to build. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Tammy; daughter, Jessica, sons, Joseph and Timothy; parents, Gerald and Eloise Heniser of Six Lakes, brothers, Steven Heniser of Grand Rapids, Kevin (Jackie) Heniser of Mason, Jeff Heniser of Eaton Rapids and Darrell Heniser of Lansing; sister, Cindy (Dennis) Herron of Rockford and many nieces and nephews. Bradley was preceded in death by his brother Randall in 1974.

Funeral services will be held today, November 23 at noon at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing with the Rev. Wesley B. Emerson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Michigan Chapter, 1421 E. 12 Mile Rd., Bldg. A, Madison Heights, MI 48071 in memory of Bradley.

George D. Hennings

George Dale Hennings, 87, of Charlotte, died Monday, May 3, 2004 at his residence.

Mr. Hennings was born May 28, 1916 in Charlotte, the son of Roy and Phebe (Sisson) Hennings. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a rural postal carrier for the post office, retiring in 1985, and a bus driver for Charlotte Public Schools for over 25 years. Many may remember him working at the Hennings family Standard Oil Station and grocery until 1965, at the corner of Merritt and Shepherd. He was always known as an honest, generous and helpful man. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a beekeeper, handling many “swarms” around the area. He especially loved gardening and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy (Wenger) Hennings; son; Richard (Sandy) Hennings of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Jerry Hennings and Roger (Pamela) Hennings; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Katelyn, Kristopher, Kevin and McKenzie; sister, Eileen Weaver of Sun City, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 7 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Phil Hobson officiating. Interment was at Needmore Cemetery in Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
