Raymond J. Beals

Raymond Jack Beals, 70, of Charlotte, died Nov. 8, 2003 in Lansing.

Mr. Beals was born Nov. 17, 1932 in Charlotte, the son of Renold and Thelma (Wright) Beals, Sr. He was a janitor at Oldsmobile for 28 years until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Charlotte American Legion Post #42, Charlotte VFW Post #2406 and Eagles Aerie #1049 of Lansing.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maryellen (LaFountain) Beals; sons, Jerry Lee and Jeffrey Joseph Beals, both of Charlotte; daughter, Julie (Charles) Jones of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Becky (Greg) Hettich, Matthew Jones, Brian Jones, Jesse and Donny Beals; two great-grandchildren, Kilee Hettich and Kollen Jones; brothers, Renold (Joyce) Beals, Jr. of Harrison, Stanley (Letha) of Charlotte, Roger (Yvonne) of Charlotte, Bruce (Elaine) of Ontario, Calif.; sisters, Shirley (Amos) Ellsworth of Lansing, Linda (Ray) Winters of Charlotte, and Judy (Leonard) Wisinski of Haslett.

He was preceded in death by sisters Cathleen Murray and Rosemary Gould, and brother Russell Beals.

Funeral services were held Nov. 11 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County Medical Care Facility. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Harley K. Beatty

Harley Katherine Beatty, age 2, passed away July 6, 2003.

Born March 27, 2001 in Lansing, Harley will be remembered for her smile and loving nature.

She is survived by her parents, Robert Beatty III and Kendra Fry-Beatty; her unborn brother, Jayce Matthew; grandparents, Robert and Carla Beatty, Kenneth and Georgia Fry; great-grandparents, Vernon and JoAnn Wieferich; great-grandmother, Mary Beatty; great-great-grandmother, Betty Sylvia “Grandma Florida”’; aunts and uncles, Gina and Bryce Madill, Georgina and Rick Hill, Kimm and Kevin Kutch and Sabrina and Carl Mazurek; many great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her uncle, Matthew David Beatty; and cousin, Richard James Hoisington.

Funeral services were held July 9 at Potterville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Leukemia Foundation, 29777 Telegraph Road, Southfield, MI 48034. Arrangements were by Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel.

Patricia M. Beisel

Patricia Marie Beisel, 77, of Saginaw, died Dec. 17, 2003.

Patricia was born Sept. 21, 1926 in Pinconning, the daughter of Howard and Gertrude (Coggins) Cross. She was a purchasing agent for Saginaw Machine and Tool Co. and a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Saginaw.

She is survived by daughter, Kathy (Glenn) Gunser of East Northport, N.Y.; son, Mark (Maggie) Beisel of Stowe, Vt; daughter, Patricia (Robert) Muladore of Charlotte; son Christopher Beisel of Santiago Zamora, Guatemala; son, Michael (Patricia) Beisel of W. Linn, Ore; and son, Thaddeus (Soulayvanh) Beisel of Portland, Ore; eight grandchildren; and sister, Kathleen Obermiller of Bay City.

She was preceded in death by husband John Beisel in 1993, and son John Gregory Beisel.

A memorial funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw St., Saginaw, with Rev. Fr. Pat O’Connor officiating. Interment will be in St. Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI 48813. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Ursula Cecelia Bell

Ursula Cecelia Bell of Eaton Rapids, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the age of 85, in Charlotte. She was born December 24, 1917 in Hubbell, Michigan, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (McKay) Desrosier. Mrs. Bell had worked at one time for the local paper in Mason and later with the American Cancer Society in Charlotte. A member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids, a volunteer for St. Vincent Clothing Bank and was a member of the Altar Society. Preceding her in death were her husband Thomas Bell in 1984; two brothers, Hubert and Gervace Desrosier; sister, Margaret Kaza.

Surviving are two sons, Stan (Carol) Bell and Michael (Theresa) Bell all of Eaton Rapids; 3 grandsons, James (Glenda) Bell, David (Debra) Bell and Thomas Bell all of Eaton Rapids; 4 granddaughters, Cindy Mussell of Mason, Annette (Donald) Calcaterra of Gross Pointe Park, Carrie Bell and Kathryn Bell both of Eaton Rapids; sister, Delores Pavwoski of Flint; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Hill, Dorothy Hughes and Gladys (Lyle) Studer; 3 brothers-in-law, Johnny Bell, Harry (Midge) Bell and William (Betty) Bell; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Fr. Ben Constantine as celebrant. Burial followed in the Munger Cemetery in rural Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church in memory of Ursula C. Bell. Arrangements were made by the Skinner Funeral Home.

Claribell “Sally” Bennett

Claribell Blanche “Sally” Bennett, age 89, of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at her residence. Born July 9, 1914 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Jessie (Hagel) and Walter Thomas Bartlett. Mrs. Bennett was an Eastern High School graduate, class of 1933, who had just attended her 70 year class reunion. She was retired from General Motors, Oldsmobile Division as a secretary in the Engineering Department, and was formerly an office nurse for Dr. Silverman’s office in Lansing. She was a Life member of the PILOT Club of Lansing and was a member of the Eaton Rapids Senior Citizens, where she spent countless hours knitting mittens and caps, for the organization.

Surviving are her husband Carl M; daughter, Barbara (William) Lampson of Eaton Rapids; son, Brian (Merry) Bennett of Carson City; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and sister, Carol (Walter) Bush of Florida; special step-grandson, Steven Lampson and family of Eaton Rapids.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25th at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with burial following in the Munger Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Rapids Senior Center in memory of Sally Bennett.

Edward Karl Berthold

Edward Karl Berthold, age 68, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, August 7, 2003 in Cadillac. Ed was born June 23, 1935 in Chicago, IL, the son of Robert and Helene (Schmidt) Berthold. He was an active member and served on various boards of the First Lutheran Church in Charlotte. Ed was a past president of the Eaton Rapids Rotary Club and was active in numerous educational administrative organizations. Mr. Berthold was a retired principal of Lockwood Elementary School in Eaton Rapids, former principal at St. Lorenz Lutheran in Frankenmuth and a teacher/principal at St. John Lutheran in Wheaton IL for 18 years. He was also instrumental in setting up Imagination Library. Ed was preceded in death by 2 brothers; 1 sister and daughter-in-law, Tara Berthold.

Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Ann (Williams) of Eaton Rapids; 2 sons, Robert Karl (Lisa) Berthold and daughter Alexandria of Fenton, Mark Edward Berthold and children Conner and Rebekah of Eaton Rapids; step daughter, Jennifer Clark and son, Ryan of Saginaw; father & mother-in-law, Ralph and Ethel Williams of Saginaw, 2 brothers-in-law, James (Linda) Williams of Traverse City, Robert (Barbara) Williams of Saginaw; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 11, 2003, at the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Tim Olson and Pastor Dale Alschwede officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Casket bearers were Dan Cupp, Russ Halsey, Stan Phinney, Duane Ross, Randy Siemon, Doug Stevens, Vic Wernette and Dan Wrubel. Honorary bearers were his friends from the Eaton Rapids Rotary Club. Those desiring may make contributions to either the Eaton Rapids Medical Care or the Edward Berthold Scholarship Fund at Charlotte First Lutheran Church. Arrangements were by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Betty J. Betts

Betty Jane Betts, 79, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003.

Mrs. Betts was born Feb. 16, 1924 in Lansing, the daughter of Alexander Gemmill and Bessie (Moore) Gemmill. She was a homemaker and enjoyed art and crafts, gardening, cooking, baking, camping and traveling. She enjoyed cats and dogs over the years.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Elmer Betts; sons, Bob (Brenda) Betts of Vermontville; daughter, Vickie (Stewart) Sorenson of Charlotte; and daughter-in-law Chris Betts of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her son Richard Betts in 2002; brother Loy and sister Crystal.

Funeral services were held Oct. 28 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Donnalee Bibler

Donnalee Bibler, age 71, of Springport, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2003. She was born October 16, 1932, in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Floyd and Ilah Wright. She married Samuel Albert Bibler on April 16, 1949. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, on January 16, 1999. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Vertral and Cecil Wright, one sister, Betty Baker and one granddaughter, Tammy Riever.

Surviving are five children, Linda (Bob) Riever, Berton (Robin) Bibler, Samuel (Tracy) Bibler, Larry Bibler, and Steven (Melissa) Bibler, 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Beatrice Lovell and Imogene Wright, one brother, Laverne Wright and numerous nieces and nephews. Donna was a great homemaker who raised five children; she loved to cook and to write poems. She worked at Tender Care Medical Care of Marshall for several years, where she was a past Employee of the Year.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the Springport Cemetery on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Bob Doner officiating. For those who wish memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Robertson Funeral Homes, Springport Chapel.

June Billingsley

June E. (McDermid) Billingsley, age 76, of Portland, formerly of Olivet, died Friday, May 23, 2003 after a short illness.

Mrs. Billingsley was born June 23, 1926 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Frank and Myrtle (Hewitt) McDermid, and had been a Portland resident for five years, moving from Olivet. She was a former employee of Progressive Dynamics in Marshall and was currently a member of Portland United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her children, Mary Ann (Ian) Beard of Lyons, Larry (Becky) Billingsley of Sunfield, Janet (Don) Robinson of Portland, and Duane (Jane) Billingsley of Merrillville, Ind.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Jean Baker of Battle Creek and Virginia Cooley of Mason; and two brothers, Charles McDermid of Florida and James McDermid of Battle Creek.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey “Pete” Billingsley in 1979; son, Keith Billingsley in 1986; and a sister, Margaret McLaughlin.

Funeral services were held May 28 at Portland United Methodist Church, with Rev. Scott Otis officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Portland United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.
