Roxana Mae Gunn

Roxana Mae Gunn, age 72, of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 at a Lansing hospital. She was born July 21, 1930 in Delhi Township, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Lathrop) Waldron. Roxie graduated from the Eaton Rapids High School, class of 1949, and had worked as a Beautician for several years in Eaton Rapids. She married Clayton Gunn on May 1, 1952 and he and a brother, Robert Perry Waldron, preceded her in death.

Surviving are 4 children, Melody (Kevin) Kemper of Eaton Rapids, Edward (Brenda) Gunn of Dansville, Wilda Gunn of Eaton Rapids and Patrick (Brenda) Gunn of Leslie; 4 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary (Kenneth) Hoffman of Eaton Rapids and Rachel (Clifford) Cole of Coopersville; 2 brothers, James (Margaret) Waldron of Eaton Rapids and Donald (Marilyn) Waldron of St. Clair Shores; sister-in-law, Sharla Waldron of Eaton Rapids; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Ruby Gunn; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Wanda M. Guy

Wanda M. Guy, age 79, died Sunday, August 24, 2003 in Lansing. Wanda was born August 17, 1924 in Webberville the daughter of Walter Carl and Sylvia Irene (Harris) Oesterle. She was a registered nurse at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn and retired from the Eaton Rapids Medical Clinic. Mrs. Guy was preceded in death by her husband Richard L. in 1987.

Surviving are 3 sons, Rodney (Linda) Guy of Mason, Ronald (Carol) Guy of Virginia, Gregory (Nichea) Guy of Grand Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Geoff, Stacie, Dan (Sallie), Jodie, Zachary, Ethan, Andrew and Emily Guy; sister, Virginia Wright of Williamston; 2 brothers, Rodney Oesterle of Williamston, Leland Oesterle of Webberville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 30, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to Mid-Michigan Hospice House in memory of Wanda M. Guy.

Frances L. Hall

Frances L. Hall, age 101, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at residence where she lived for 79 years. Frances was born Dec. 16, 1901 in Hamlin Twp., Eaton County, the daughter of Louren Erving and Laura L. (Kikendall) Harshey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence P. Hall in 1991; daughter-in-law, Judith Florian Hall; 2 grandsons, Martin D. Hall and Mikel B. Cords and her sister, Velma Clark Swan.

Surviving are her daughter, Virginia Strahan of Eaton Rapids; 3 sons, Bruce (Liela) Hall of Knoxville, TN. Edward (Doris) Hall, Neil Hall both of Eaton Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and special friend, Sue Jamison. Mrs. Hall was formerly employed at the VFW National Home for 20 years.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 29, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home. Internment followed at Oakwood Cemetery, Hamlin Twp. Those desiring may make contributions to the Gideon’s Living Memorial Bible Plan in memory of Frances L. Hall.

Kenneth C. Hall

Kenneth C. Hall, age 85, of St. James City, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, Olivet and Hastings, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo after short illness.

Kenneth was born in Bellevue Township, Eaton County, the son of Donald and Vera (Johnson) Hall. He was employed as a supervisor at Aluminum Extrusions Co. in Charlotte, retiring in 1978 after 21 years of service, and was also a farmer. Mr. Hall served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Family Motor Coach Assn. and the Good Sam Travel Club. He was married to Pauline Fugate in December 1936 in the parsonage at Ainger Church.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline; son, Bernard (Julie) Hall of Charlotte; three daughters, Bonnie (Daniel) Judd of Olivet, Beverly (William) Cahill of Polk City, Fla. and Betty (George) Banfill of St. James City, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thela Hewitt of Battle Creek and Arlene (Ernest) Powers of Olivet; and brother, Harold Hall of Delton.

He was preceded in death by sister, June O’Teney.

Funeral services were held June 6 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Roy Backus officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice in Charlotte.

Herbert E. Halstead

Herbert Edward Halstead, 91, of Lake, died Friday, May 30, 2003 in Charlotte.

Mr. Halstead was born Nov. 2, 1911 in Calhoun County, LeRoy Township, the son of Ira and Pearl (Moore) Halstead.

He is survived by his wife, Dora; children, Richard (Marie) Halstead of Olivet, James (Linda) Halstead of Missouri, Herbert (Jenny) Halstead, Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Roger Halstead of Sturgis, John (Paula) Halstead of Pickney and Geraldine Jaquez of Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris.

A graveside service was held June 7 at Peeke Cemetery in Constantine, with Pastor Ron Schultz officiating. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Cheryl Sue Hamilton

Cheryl Sue Hamilton, age 59, of Beverly Hills, FL, died at home, Wednesday, September 17, 2003 under the care of her family and Hospice. A native of Lansing, MI, she was born Oct. 9, 1943 to Harold and Shirley Oliver. She came to Florida in 1987 from Verona, WI.

As a teenager, Cheryl was a pastor’s secretary and was also a secretary at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. She loved children and was active in leadership in the AWANA youth ministry and teaching Sunday School in the churches that her husband pastored. Her love of music brought her to sing in the choir and share in a passion for southern gospel music. She also taught a young ladies’ Bible study and was president of the Ladies Fellowship of Heritage Baptist Church. She loved animals and had a Tennessee Walker horse with which she won several awards. Cheryl worked for more than a decade at Midway Animal Hospital of Crystal River.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, the Rev. David Hamilton of Beverly Hills; two sons, Robert Forrest (Cheryl) Hamilton of Tampa and Christopher Scott (Lisa) Hamilton of Ocala; her mother, Shirley Oliver of Eaton Rapids, MI; three brothers, Tim (Patti) Oliver and Brad (Connie) Oliver of Eaton Rapids, MI, and Scott (Peggy) Oliver of Cortland, Ohio; and one granddaughter.

William H. Hamilton

William “Bill” Harold Hamilton, 86, of Charlotte, died April 21, 2003 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte.

Mr. Hamilton was born Oct. 28, 1916 in Eaton County, the son of William Allen and Inez (Haywood) Hamilton. William graduated from Nashville High School. He worked at Wilcox Gay Radio factory and retired from Oldsmobile. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and traveling in his motor home. In his younger days he was an aircraft pilot and enjoyed motorcycles. Bill was a life member of the Kalamo Masonic Temple and Kalamo Eastern Star Chapter. He also belonged to the Charlotte Camper Club. He enjoyed the field trips taken with his friends at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.

He is survived by his wife, Marion (Callahan) Hamilton; son, Richard; daughter, Betty (Dan) Gaffney; grandchildren, Holly Gaffney and Christopher Gaffney; 11 stepdaughters and their families, Betty Carl, Dwilda (Russell) Smith, Patricia (Chuck) Reed, Karen (Craig) Updyke, Laura (Ron) Avery, Phyllis (Robert) Homan, Virginia (Earl) Ryan, Charlene (Lynn) Preston, Maxine (Leonard) Pixley, Mildred (Rick) Whitmore, Neva (Steve) McMillon; friend and brother-in-law, Edward Pease; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Mabel (Pease) Hamilton and Beatrice (Rittenberg) Hamilton; sister, Pearl (Hamilton) Blodgett; brothers, Maynard, Maurice, Frank, Emmitt and Howard; and grandson, Mark Douglas Haywood.

Funeral services were held April 26 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to either the Eaton County Medical Care Facility Activities Fund, 530 Beech Street, Charlotte, MI 48813; or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Rev. Donald L. Hancock

Rev. Donald L. Hancock, of Eaton Rapids, age 70, died Friday, September 12, 2003 in Eaton Rapids. Don was born February 20, 1933 in Carterville, IL, the son of William Joseph and Jennie (Patrick) Hancock. He was a charter member of VFW Post #9233 in Mt. Vernon, IL and past Quarter Master. Don was a past member of the National Association of Independent Insurance Claims Adjusters and past member of Professional Adjusting System of America.

Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Ruth A.; 2 daughters, Kezia Hancock and Elena Justine Hancock, both of Eaton Rapids; twin sons, David Z.Z. Hancock and Solomon P.Z. Hancock, both of Eaton Rapids; 1 brother, William G. (Florence) Hancock of Fremont, IN.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. There will be a time to visit with his family from 10 A.M. Wednesday until service time. Interment and Military Honors will be held at 2 P.M at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the V.F.W. National Home in memory of Rev. Don Hancock.

Frederick C. Hansen

Frederick C. Hansen, 82, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Mr. Hansen was born July 4, 1920 in Muskegon, the son of George and Carrie (Coleman) Hansen and had been a Charlotte resident since 1947. He was a retired dairy farmer and had worked for Battle Creek Schools, from where he retired after 20 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later served in the Michigan Air National Guard out of Battle Creek. Mr. Hansen was a member of Ainger Bible Church and Maple City Post #2406 VFW in Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marjorie (Linsley) Hansen; son, Scott (Pat) Hansen of Charlotte; daughter, Rae Ann (Larry) Rollins of Nashville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Dean Hansen of Vermontville; sister, Betty Trappen of Grand Rapids, Carol Johnson of Hastings and Connie Chambers of Talahassee, Fla.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Kay Ann Hansen in 1951; brothers, Jerome, Stanley and Harold; and sisters, Blanch and Florence.

Funeral services were held Feb. 6 at Ainger Bible Church, with Pastor Scott Brood and Pastor Richard Gordon officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.

Memorial contributions may be made to ainger bible Church, the Rural Bible Missions, or Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
