Clyde W. Oberlin

Clyde W. Oberlin, age 83, of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, January 30, 2003 at his residence. Clyde was born January 25, 1920 in Eaton Rapids the son of Clyde Eugene and Grace Mabel (Epley) Oberlin. He was employed with A.M. Smith Packing Co., Woods Brothers Trucing Co. and retired from the City of Eaton Rapids after 30 years with 14 years as Sexton at Rosehill Cemetery. Oberlin Drive at Rosehill Cemetery was named after Clyde.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Donna M. (Schultz); 2 daughters, Susan (Larry) Orbell of Eaton Rapids, Debra (Tim) Snow of Olivet; 3 sons, Mark (Tammie) Oberlin, Steven (Penny) Oberlin, Stanley Oberlin all of Eaton Rapids; step son, Charles Snyder of Toledo, OH; 24 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; brother, Warren (Marilyn) of Neopolian; 2 sisters, Geraldine Williams of Eaton Rapids; Josephine Caldwell of Toledo, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Winford Collins officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery.

Warren Oberlin

Warren Oberlin, age 72, of Napoleon, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, May 15, 2003 in Jackson. Warren was born August 4, 1930 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Clyde Eugene and Grace Mabel (Epley) Oberlin. He retired from Jackson Manufacturing and Deing in 1987 and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Marie (Porter); 4 daughters, Vickie Smith of Napoleon, Sandra (Thomas) Baker of Eaton Rapids, Sharon (Richards) Calkins of Jackson, Karen (Steve) Gordon of Leslie; 3 sons, Terry Porter of Ludington, Gerald (Kim) Oberlin of Springport, Larry (Debbie) Oberlin of Eaton Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Geraldine “Red” Williams of Eaton Rapids, Marion E. Campbell of Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 17, 2003, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Winford Collins officiating. Those desiring may make contributions to the family in memory of Warren Oberlin.

Anthony Michael Ocampo

Anthony “Tony” Michael Ocampo, age 18 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, October 4, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born July 2, 1985 in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Darlene Miller and William Kim Warner. Tony was currently employed at Meijer’s in Mason and had previously worked for McDonald’s in Eaton Rapids. Tony was an adamant lover of animals, very patriotic and a fan of M.S.U., he loved working on his car and enjoyed helping others.

Surviving are his mother Darlene Miller of Eaton Rapids; step-father, William Kim Warner of Goshen, Indiana; sisters, Angie (Jim) Rawson and Crystal Ocampo all of Eaton Rapids; 2 nephews, Zachary Rawson and Matt Ocampo; Fiancee, Lucinda Owen of Eaton Rapids; grandmother, Betty Holtsclaw of South Bend; grandparents, Hugh and Ann Warner of Coldwater, FL; great-grandmother, Ruby Warner of South Bend; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 8th at 1:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Tony Ocampo, envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family is being served by the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.

Lynn Oberlin-Ogburn

Lynn Oberlin-Ogburn, 39, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg of cancer.

Lynn enjoyed collecting junk jewelry, Ruby Flash glassware, tending her plants and riding her bicycle.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Ogburn; two stepsons, Eric and Demian Ogburn, both of St. Petersburg; her parents, Gerald and Jean Oberlin of Ormond Beach; sister, Jill Oberlin Tully of Daytona Beach; brother, Scott Oberlin of Eaton Rapids; and her cat, Tiger.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions in her name to their local humane society. Arrangements were by Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center – Ninth Street Chapel, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Hal S. Olmstead

Hal S. Olmstead, age 80, passed away Sept. 9, 2003 in Clifton Springs, NY. He was born Oct. 29, 1922 in Carson City, the son of Paul and Hazel (Bowen) Olmstead.

Hal moved to Eaton Rapids in 1966 and had been a resident there until moving to Clifton Springs in 2002. He was an employee for 35 years of the John Henry Printing Co., retiring in 1986. He was a graduate of the American Bible Institute of Brooklyn, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline; two sons, Alan (Pamela) Olmstead of Eureka, Calif. And Evan (Tammy) Olmstead of Eaton Rapids; three daughters, Lynnette (David Banta) Witwer of Watsonville, Calif., Merrille Olmstead of Palmyra, N.Y. and Jannelle Olmstead (Joe) Guarnere of Palmyra, N.Y.; 11 grandchidren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Charlene) Olmstead of Linden; and one sister, Joanne (William) Pietcher of Caseville.

Funeral services were held Sept. 13 at the Eaton Rapids United Methodist Church, with Pastor Thomas Evans officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Peters & Murray Funeral Home of Grand Ledge.

Paula Oomen

Paula Oomen, 61, of Charlotte, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003.

Mrs. Oomen was born May 24, 1942 in Jurkovac, Yugoslavia, the daughter of Heinrich and Maria (Sumunia) Keller. Paula was a leaser of the Millerburg 4-H Club in Eaton County for 10 years.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Nicolaas Oomen; daughters, Marie Oomen and Wendy Oomen, both of Lansing, Alice Oomen of Charlotte; sisters, Anna Hilz of East Lansing and Ava Schweitz of Lyons, N.Y.

Funeral services were held Dec. 29 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery on Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital of the charity of one’s choice.

Olive B. Osborne

Olive B. Osborne, age 93, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing after a short illness.

Mrs. Osborne was born July 22, 1910 in Mendota, Mo., the daughter of Josepha and Muriel (Jones) Bramhall and had been a resident of the Portland and Charlotte areas for over 60 years. She attended high school in Missouri, where she played basketball and baseball. With her husband she operated a family shoe repair business in Charlotte. She also assisted with Girl Scouts and attended First Baptist Church in Charlotte. She was a great seamstress, a good southern cook and had a strong faith in her Lord.

Surviving are her daughter, Cecelia (William) Lundeen of Charlotte; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and half-sister, Dixie Thomas of Tulsa, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Osborne in 1963; sons, Jerry Osborne in 1940, Jack Osborne in 1989 and Billie Osborne in 2001; and two brothers, Warren and George Bramhall.

Graveside services were held Dec. 12 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with Pastor William Tate officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Steven R. Otto

Steven R. Otto, 45, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Battle Creek Health System.

He was born Dec. 2, 1957, the son of Bernard and Joyce (Oaster) Otto. He enjoyed horses, campng, church activities, home renovations and football. He was the owner of GLN Fundraising in Bellevue and was known as the ultimate “candy man.”

He is survived by his wife, Becky (Hart); daughters, Tammi, Wendy, Lori and Sarah; sons-in-law, Forrest and Kirk; granddaughter, Alizabeth; his parents of Bellevue; brothers, Michael (Mary) Otto of Charlotte and Donald (Marty) Otto of Bellevue.

He was preceded in death by brother, Gary Otto in 1989.

Memorial services were held at Calvary Baptist Church in Pennfield, with Pastor Brian Spencer officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Battle Creek Health System Cancer Center or the Bellevue Memorial Scholarship Fund. Arrangments were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Leo W. Page

Leo W. Page, 77, of Hastings, MI, formerly of Potterville, MI, died Wenesday June 11, 2003 at his residence. Leo was born Dec. 16, 1925 in Eaton Rapids Township to son of Francis and Meta (Jacox) Page and had been a Hastings area resident since 1983 coming from Potterville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retired Chief Engineer and Vice President of Michigan Magnetics and held many patents in the electronics field. He was a life member of the Potterville Masonic Lodge, member of the O.E.S. and the V.F.W. in Potterville and the D.A.V. in Lansing. He had served in Potterville as Treasurer, Assessor and on the Planning Commission.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Van Loton) Page; 2 daughters, Debra Chavez of Traverse City and Christine (Charles) Means of Charlotte; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, Harry (Mary) Page of Baldwin and Garry (Marsha) Page of Sault Ste. Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Frances Hill.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 16 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Thomas Peters officiating. Interment in Deepdale Memeorial Park, Lansing. Memorials may go to the American Cancer Society.
