Earl Blake

Earl Blake, 79, of Nashville, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 at his home.

Mr. Blake was born Feb. 14, 1922 in Hastings, the son of Walter and Rena (Rose) Blake. He attended area schools. Mr. Blake served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 3, 1942 until Dec. 27, 1945 with the 301st Infantry. He married Mary Louise Gaedert on Feb. 28, 1948 in Angola, Ind. They settled in Nashville, where he was a lifetime member of the Nashville VFW post. Mr. Blake loved bingo and working at Mulberry Fore Golf Course. He enjoyed racing of all kinds, fixing up cars, trailers, snowmobiles and being in his garage.

He is survived by his wife, Mary “Blondie” Blake; son, Robert Blake; daughter-in-law, Joyce Makley; grandson, Travis Blake; granddaughter, Melissa Barnhart; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rena (Rose) Blake.

A memorial luncheon was held Feb. 9 at the Nashville VFW post. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements were by Maple Valley Chapel in Nashville.

Della Mae Boatman

Della Mae Boatman, age 78 of Eaton Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2002. She was born May 29, 1924 in Fosteria, Ohio, daughter of the late George and Mary Louise (Ritter) Graves. Della worked in 1953 for Davidson Woolen Mills for a time and had graduated in 1978 from the Eaton Rapids High School. She loved the out-of-doors, animals and traveling with her late husband. She was a member of the Eaton Rapids Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witness. A highly spirited and very independent woman, who was very witty and full of wisdom, and will always be remembered. Preceding her in death were her husband of 37 years, Jean Royston Boatman; brothers, Bruce and Robert and sister, Mildred.

Surviving are her 3 sons, Gary Lee Boatman of Ohio, Robert (Wanda) of Lansing, and Alex F. (Diane); daughter, Zephyr A. Boatman of Eaton Rapids; 2 grandsons, Jacob Jean-Conner Hughes and Zachary Brain-Jarrad Hughes of Eaton Rapids; sisters, Mary (Louie) Duran of CA, Miriam (Harold) Milan of Upper Sandusky, OH, Nancy (Sonny) Tyson of Oh; brothers, Harry of Hanibal, MO and Gene (Bonnie) of MO; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, December 7, 2002 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Elder Bill Casten, officiating. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Association, in memory of Della Mae Boatman.

Roxanne Kay Boatman

Roxanne K. Boatman, age 43 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, June 15, 2002 following a long battle with cancer. She was born September 2, 1958 in Eaton Rapids the daughter of Wendell and Ruth (Marquadt) Boatman. Roxanne was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1976, and attended the First Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. Roxanne was an Operational Support Specialist with over 15 years of service with Michigan National Bank in the Merchant Credit Card Services Division. Her contributions helped the department in winning Quality Service Awards for the past 10 consecutive years. Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Kent.

Surviving are her son, Sean Boatman; sister, Marie (John) Holcomb of Eaton Rapids and brother, Larry (Susan) Boatman of Clarkson; 2 nieces, Melissa and JoLynn Holcomb and 2 nephews, Keith and Derek Boatman; several aunts and cousins.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 19th at 4 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Roxanne Boatman Living Trust for an Educational Fund for her son, Sean.

Jack E. Bobier

Jack E. Bobier, 76, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away March 25, 2002. Mr. Bobier and his wife, after living in Charlotte for 32 years, moved to Fraser, Colo., where they spent 22 years. In 1999 they moved to Mesa, Ariz. Mr. Bobier loved life to its fullest and had no regrets.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Mark and Brian (Beth); one daughter, Cynthia (Dave) Kettner; four grandchildren, James, Craig, Tricia and Shaun; two great-grandchildren, Adin and Drew; and one brother, Bob.

Memorial services were held March 29 at Mariposa Gardens Chapel in Mesa, Ariz.

John T. Boner

John Thomas Boner, 66, of Charlotte, died Saturday, July 13, 2002.

Mr. Boner was born Dec. 10, 1935 in Battle Creek, the son of Raymond and Jesse May (Houghtelling) Boner. He retired from Demmer Corp., was a government OAR inspector, and served in the Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by daughter, Julie Harshey of Charlotte; son, Alan Wesley Hardy of Texas; brothers, Clifford Boner of Copper Harbor, Alaska, and Richard Boner of Acoa, Fla.; sisters, Peggy Hall of Battle Creek and Ann Thurman of Urbana, Ohio; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rich Mitterling officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bernard J. Booyinga

Bernard “Bernie” Junior Booyinga, 67, of Mason, formerly of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002.

Mr. Booyinga was born March 10, 1934 in Dunningville, the son of Louis Bernard and Estella Mae (Thomas) Booyinga.

He is survived by companion, Phyllis VanDeMoortel; cousins, Brian (Voni) Booyinga of Dansville, Sheryl Kletke of Holt, Joanne McGlocklin and Brent Booyinga, both of Battle Creek.

Graveside services were held Jan. 18 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, with rev. Jeff Bowman officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Gresham United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Virginia F. Borgman

Virginia F. Borgman, 75, of Bellevue, died July 7, 2002 at Battle Creek health System.

Mrs. Borgman was born Oct. 8, 1926 in Bellevue, the daughter of Wesley and Hilda (Hughes) Brandt. She graduated from Bellevue High School and married Emert Borgman on Dec. 1, 1946; he survives. She was a member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church and active in the kitchen committee, the Mission Committee, Esther Circle and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Borgman was also a member of the 20th Century Club and ETC Club, and volunteered as a Camp Fire leader. She was a homemaker, enjoyed family gatherings and going to their cottage at Leach Lake in Hastings. She also liked attending her grandchildren’s many activities.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Gloria (Eric) Slaughter of Holland, Mary Beth (Randy) Boehmer of Bellevue, Gayle (Simon) Lothamer of Jackson and Jean (Rand) Eaton of Bellevue; eight grandchildren; brother, Duane (Bobbie) Brandt of Bellevue; and sisters, Betty (Lowell) Cook of Charlotte and Elaine (Bill) Schroder of Bellevue.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Lothamer.

Services were held July 10 at Bellevue United Methodist Church with Pastor Dave Johnston officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellevue United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Thomas “Tommy” Botsford

FISHERA, Ind.- Thomas A. “Tommy” Botsford, formerly of Mason, died Dec. 13, 2002, at the age of 48. He was born Jan. 23, 1957 in Lansing.

Tommy was the maintenance manager at Coopers Bowling Centers for the past four years, and was an AMA professional motorcycle road course racer. He was also a freestyle mountain climber. He was an accomplished guitar player beginning in youth and was very active in the Boy Scouts.

Surviving are his father, Thomas C. Botsford of Eaton Rapids; mother, Charlene G. (Blasen) Hope of Okemos; one brother, Terry M. Botsford of Palm Coast, Fla.; one sister, Toni S. (Jim) Vandecar of Mason.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Ball-Dunn Chapel, Mason. Interment followed in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mason. Those desiring may make contributions to the charity of their choice in memory of Tommy.
