John W. Letson

John William Letson, 72, of Inverness, Fla., died at home Saturday, June 15, 2002 under the care of his family and hospice.

Mr. Letson was a native of Clinton County, Michigan. He was born Nov. 9, 1929 to the late William and Mary Walters Letson. He had been a winter resident in Inverness, Fla., from Bellevue. He was a retired farmer and a member of First Baptist Church of Citrus Springs, Fla. and Crossroads United Brethren Church in Charlotte.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Carlson Letson of Inverness, Fla., and Bellevue; one son, Roy (Karen) of Potterville; two daughters, Eloise (Dale) Berry of Freeport and Joyce (Larry) Wait of Lake Odessa; one brother, Harold of Bayfield, Colo; two sisters, Ardith Knop of Middleville and Laura Lennox of Wyandotte; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph.

Memorial services were held Saturday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Crossroads United Brethren Church in Charlotte. Interment of the urn will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads United Brethren Church. Arrangements were by Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home of Inverness, Fla.

Cornelious Paul Garth “Boze” Letts

Cornelious Paul Garth “Boze” Letts, age 51, died January 6, 2002 in Westland, Michigan. He was born September 1, 1950 in Eaton Rapids. He was a dedicated soldier of the United States Marine Corps and the National Guard for twenty-five years.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Letts; 2 sons, Cornelious Dan and Nathan; 3 daughters, Stacey, Katiebelle and Isabelle; father, Cornelious P. Letts; 4 sisters, Paulita Coudron, Jane Johnson, Georgia Moore, Gene Mollitor; 2 brothers, John Letts and Dennis Letts; 32 nieces and nephews; 41 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Letts.

Funeral services were held at the Uht Funeral Home, January 9, 2002 with Rev. Neil Cowling officiating.

Barbara A. Lewis

Barbara A. Lewis, age 58 of Olivet, Michigan, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Battle Creek Health Systems after a brief illness. Barbara was born October 14, 1943 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of Leon and Gladys (Lamoreaux) Mathias. She enjoyed reading and her grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters Debbie (Anthony) Massimino of Bellevue, Christine (Timothy) DePue of Eaton Rapids; 7 grandchildren; brothers, Jake (Mary) Mathias of Bellevue, Jim (Mary) Mathias of Napolean, Ohio, Ed David of East Tawas, Michigan, Walter Davis of Canton, Ohio; sisters, Phyllis (Bill) Rhoades of Charlotte, and Mary Bursley of Ft. Myers, Florida. She was preceded in death by brother Lowell Mathias and sisters Margaret, Lucille, Leona and Rosetta.

Family and friends attended a Family Affirmation Service on Saturday, March 9th, at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Justin H.B. Ley

Justin H.B. Ley, of Springport, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at the age of 10. He was born June 11, 1992, the son of Keith and Sherry Ley. Justin had just completed the 3rd grade at Island City Academy. He was involved with basketball, baseball, soccer and karate in Springport and Eaton Rapids, Justin was an avid outdoorsman, he especially loved fishing.

Surviving are his parents, one brother, Ryan Ley; one sister, Sara Ley; paternal grandmother, Mary Ley; maternal grandparents, Wayne (Sandy) Pylant and Curt (Kathy) Boyd; great-grandchildren, Stallard (Mae) Williams; 12 aunts and uncles and numerous cousins. Justin was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Kenneth Ley and a great-great-grandmother, Laura Hamilton.

Funeral services will be held at the Robertson Funeral Homes, Springport Chapel, on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Chris Bigg officiating. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or to the Island City Academy. Justin’s mischievous smile will be missed by all who knew him.

Marian L. Link

Marian Lucille Link, 74, of Vermontville, died June 14, 2002 at Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte.

Mrs. Link was born Sept. 7, 1927 in Nashville, the daughter of Raymond and Stella (Swift) Dingman. She graduated from Nashville High School in 1945 and worked as a cashier for Garden Fresh Store in Charlotte for 12 years, retiring in 1986. She married William Link on April 5, 1947 in Hastings; he died in 1996. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and bowling.

She is survived by grandchildren, Karey Burnett, Jeremy Tamez-Link and William Link, all of Charlotte, and Babette Burnett of Florida; four great-grandchildren, and sister Ilah Martz of Hastings.

She was preceded in death by sons, Craig and Rodney Link; daughter, Luanne Link of Charlotte; brother, Howard Dingman; and sisters, Leona Freese and Marjorie Endsley.

Funeral services were held June 17 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Interment was at Kalamo Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Association.

Eloise I. Link

Eloise Ione Link, 82, of Howell, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002. Mrs. Link was born Sept. 23, 1920 in Vermontville, the daughter of Earl and Irene (Hager) Hadden.

She is survived by her husband Lewis; grandson, Thomas (Kristina) Darling of Howell; granddaughter, Kimberly (James) Frisbie of Howell; stepson, Robert Link of Manistee; two sisters, Norma Atanasoff and Mary Ohlemacher, both of Lansing; and son-in-law, Dr. Francis Darling.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Darling, on March 2, 2001.

Family Affirmation Services were held Aug. 2 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.

Earl J. Linsley

Earl Junior Linsley, 76, of Charlotte, formerly of Battle Creek, died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at his residence after a short illness.

Mr. Linsley was born Sept. 25, 1925 in Kalamo Township, Eaton County the son of Earl M. and Esther (Damm) Linsley and had lived in Charlotte for four years coming from Battle Creek.

He had been employed at Bliss Manufacturing in Hastings and was a lifelong farmer. He had served in the Michigan Air National Guard and later in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

Surviving are two sisters, Marjorie (Fred) Hansen of Charlotte and Betty Rockford of Vermontville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lulu Linsley.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte with Reverend George Fleming officiating. Interment was held at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Eaton Community Hospice.

Mary A. Litchfield

Mary A. Litchfield, 88, of Mulliken, died Tuesday evening, April 2, 2002 at a Lansing hospital following a short illness.

Mrs. Litchfield was born April 6, 1913 in New England, N.D., a daughter of John and Pauline (Schindler) Debler. She is survived by two brothers, Robert Debler of Lansing and Albert “Jim” Debler of Sunfield; special friend, George Shaw; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Niles in 1963. Services were held April 6 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Pastor Don Woolum officiating. Interment was at Meadowbrook Cemetery. Pallbearers were Delbert and Lynn Arnold, Kenny and Tommy Debler, and Bill and Gary Roll.

Donald Clare Lockwood

Donald C. Lockwood, age 74 and life resident of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, May 13, 2002 at a Lansing hospital following a long illness. He was born June 26, 1927 in Eaton Rapids, the only child born to Clair J. and Meroe (Chatterton) Lockwood. Don served in the Navy during the end of World War II. He graduated from the Eaton Rapids High School, class of 1945, was a graduate of M.S.U. with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1952 and his Master’s Degree in 1962. He began his career in education as a teacher for 6 years, them became Principal, and retired with 34 years of service to the Eaton Rapid Public Schools. He was a life member of the F.&A.M. Lodge #63 in Eaton Rapids, member of the First United Methodist Church, the M.S.U. Alumni Association, and a past president and board member of the Eaton Rapids Alumni Association. He was preceded in death by his son James Donald Lockwood in 1977.

Don was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his loving family. His wife of 49 years, Joan; son, Stephen Clare (Sally) Lockwood of Mansfield, TX; daughters, Cathie Jo (Larry) Webb of Lansing and Kristi Lynne (Todd) Bolitho of Cadillac; 3 grandchildren, Shannon Webb, Jeremy Webb and Julie Bolitho; great-grandson, Nathan Shotwell; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 17th from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Jeffery Schrock officiating. Burial followed in Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Donald C. Lockwood Elementary School c/o Eaton Rapids Public Schools, in memory of Donald C. Lockwood.
