Susie N. Gaw

Susie Naoma Gaw, 92, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001.

Mrs. Gaw was born Sept. 1, 1908 in Lamar, Colo., the daughter of Delbert and Effie (Sowers) Mourning. She was a sales clerk at J.C. Penney in Lansing for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, on Dec. 20, 1994, after 49 years of marriage.

Friends and family are invited for visitation starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, with memorial services beginning at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. George Fleming officiating.

Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc.

Leslie William Gibbs Jr.

Leslie W. Gibbs Jr., age 83 of Eaton Rapids, passed away at his home, November 23, 2001 in Eaton Rapids. Les was born September 9, 1918, in Perry, MI. He served 2 years in the United States Army in the 81st Air Borne Division, Anti Aircraft Battalion. In 1980, Les retired from Jackson Prison. He was an avid golfer, softball pitcher, bowler and played horseshoes. Preceding him in death were his mother, Daisy Galligan (Willie) in 1965 and his father, Leslie W. Gibbs.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jane Gibbs; 7 children, Gary Gibbs, Pat (Norm) Hyatt, Bonnie DeLano, Carol (Pat) McNamara, Bill (Diannia) Gibbs, Dick Gibbs all of Eaton Rapids, and Sandra Gibbs of Lansing; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Roen of Empire, MI; sister, Judith Fillingham of Eaton Rapids.

Funeral services were held November 26th from the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank McLaren Home Care Hospice who provided love and support during his illness.

Emma V. Gibson

Emma V. Gibson, age 91 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, in Charlotte. Emma was born May 20, 1909 in Livingston County, the daughter of J.B. and Greta E. (Weller) Munsell. She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids since 1940 and the Miriam Circle. Mrs. Gibson graduated from Michigan State College, Class of 1936 and was a charter member of AAUW for many years. Emma was an active member of the Eaton County Republican Party, the first teacher and driving force behind the creation of the Humpty Dumpty Nursery School in Eaton Rapids and a member of the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne E. in 1978; 2 brothers, Silas and Glen Munsell and sister, Margaret Markenson.

Surviving are 2 sons, David (Sandra) Gibson of Augusta, Paul (Earline) Gibson of Arcadia, IN; 5 grandchildren, Richard (Paula) Gibson, William Gibson, Jeffery (Christina) Gibson, Sara (Michael) Shelton, Rachel (Jeff) Barth; 4 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Regan Emma and Kendall Gibson, MacPherson Shelton; 2 step great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Shelton; brother, Hugh (Jayne) Munsell of Ann Arbor; 3 sisters, Vera Charleton of Texas, Fern (William) Schadel of Fowlerville, and Jean (George) Polich of Crystal Falls.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the First United Methodist Church or the AAUW Scholarship Fund in memory of Emma Gibson.

Mildred V. Gidner

Mildred V. Gidner, 96, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.

Mrs. Gidner was born Feb. 20, 1905 in Silver Leaf, N.D., the daughter of Fred and Sarah Ann (Lord) VanVleck, and had been a resident of the Potterville/Charlotte area since age 13. She was a 1923 graduate of Potterville High School and had attended Western Michigan University and Michigan State University. Mrs. Gidner was a retired school teacher, having taught at West Windsor, Potterville and Sunfield schools.

She is survived by three sons, Richard (Grita) of Renton, Wash., Ramon (Roxanna) of Kalamazoo and Clark (Jill) of Charlotte; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Lewis in 1960 and her husband, Ralph Gidner in 1993.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Thomas Peters officiating. Inurnment will be in the Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Orl “Bud” Gillaspie

Orl “Bud” Gillaspie, 79, of Vermontville, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 at his home.

Mr. Gillaspie was born April 13, 1922, in Lacy, Mich., the son of Harvey and Lucy (Clark) Gillaspie and attended Briggs School. He married Beatrice Ball in 1941 in Indiana. He was an entrepreneur and inventor who owned a redi-mix business and the Ponderosa Campground in Vermontville. He enjoyed farming and was a square dance caller for “Bud’s Duds.”

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Gillaspie of Vermontville, three sons, Bruce (Margaret-Ann) of Louisiana, Bernard of North Carolina and Brad (Barbara) of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Betty Gillaspie, brother Irl Gillaspie and sister Mildred Willison.

Funeral services were held Sept. 7 at the Vermontville Bible Church, Vermontville, with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Vermontville Bible Church. Arrangements were by Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville.

Janette K. Goelz-Comstock

Janette Kay Goelz-Comstock, 59, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001.

Mrs. Goelz-Comstock was born March 26, 1942 in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of George and Mary (Weiderman) Goelz. She was a supervisor for the state of Michigan, Department of Treasury in Lansing, retiring in 1992, and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Charlotte. Her hobbies included playing cards with her friends, and she was a former member of the Laugh-A-Lot Club.

She is survived by son, Jason Comstock; brother, Gordon (Gail) Goelz of Lansing and Harold (Janet) Goelz of Charlotte; step-daughters, Kim (Randy) Hansen and Sandra (Charles) Washburn; step-son, Eugene Comstock, three step-grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Glen Neal officiating. Interment was at Danby Cemetery, Danby Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice or the Nazarene Church of Charlotte; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Janie (Torres) Gonzales

Janie (Torres) Gonzales, age 77 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan following a terminal illness. She was born April 9, 1924 in Austin, TX, the daughter of Ralph and Eugloria (Orta) Soriano. Janie was a Nursing Attendant for many years in the Eaton Rapids area. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Isabell Ruiz.

Surviving are 8 children, Jim Torres of Florida, Ray Torres of Lansing, Connie King of Harrison, Lynn Torres of Eaton Rapids, Joyce Torres of Lansing, Linda Miller of Allen, MI, K.C. Torres of Lansing, and Natalie Norton of Eaton Rapids; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Cervantes of Eaton Rapids and Sisco Cervantes of Charlotte; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held April 24, 2001 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. David Ames of the Assembly of God Church in Charlotte, officiating. Burial will follow in Eaton Rapids.

Gale C. Good

Gale C. Good, 85, of Charlotte, died September 16, 2001.

He was born April 18, 1916 in Isabella County, Michigan, the son of Clarence A. and Julia May (Ingersoll) Good. He had immense compassion for his family and took care of his wife for the last five years. He was a very honest man with a fantastic sense of humor. He loved fishing on Lacy Lake and playing shuffleboard. His love of travel took him to every state except Hawaii and Alaska. He was a retired truck driver for the Dana Corporation.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Inez (Breidinger), sons Gayland D. Good of Charlotte, Edward Lee, and Ivan L. Good of Lansing, Loren A. Evans of Muncie, Indiana; daughters Evelyn (Harry) Carpenter of Charlotte, Lydia (James) Baker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers James Good of Zephyr Hills, Florida, Paul Good of Charlotte, 34 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Clifford W. Good and Ardnold Good, and by brother Ira Good.

Services were Sept. 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was in Gresham Cemetery.

Kenneth E. Goodnoe

Kenneth E. Goodnoe, 71, of Olivet, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.

Mr. Goodnoe was born Oct. 8, 1929 in Lansing, the son of Walter and Blanche (Soul) Goodnoe and had been an Olivet resident for 64 years. He was a 1947 graduate of Olivet High School, a lifelong farmer, and a retired employee of Maeward Couplings in Olivet, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service. Mr. Goodnoe enjoyed bowling and fishing and was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan.

He is survived by one son, Duane (Jean) Goodnoe of Rib Lake, Wis; three daughters, Donna Piepkow of Albion, Susan (Michael) Thompson of Charlotte and Peggy (Dennis) Milbourn of Olivet; 10 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Karl (Thelma) Goodnoe of Williamston; and one sister, Louise Hastings of Lansing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine (Ripley) Goodnoe on Aug. 25, 1996; brother, Donald Goodnoe; and sister, Ellen May Goodnoe.

Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Robert Doner officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
