Lynn A. VanderMoere Jr.

Lynn Allen “Bugs” VanderMoere, Jr., 41, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001.

Mr. VanderMoere was born Sept. 26, 1956 in Lansing, the son of Lynn Alan VanderMoere Sr. and Karen Hicks VanderMoere Glynn. He was a 1978 graduate of Charlotte High School, and lived mostly in the Charlotte and Potterville area. He is a retiree from General Motors.

He is survived by his wife Tracy; three children, Jeremiah, Nathanial, and Seth; his mother, Karen (Pat) Glynn; his father, Lynn (Mary Lee) VanderMoere; two brothers, Scott (Evita) VanderMoere and Rich (Heather) VanderMoere; sister, Kristy (Shawnn) Degner; grandmother, Phyllis Hicks; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; step-brother, David Glynn; step-brother, David Glynn; step-sisters, Kellie Glynn and Julie Harmon.

Funeral services were held Sept. 26 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Neal Hicks officiating. Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.

Memorial donations may be made to a trust fund for Mr. VanderMoere’s children; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Barbara VanEpps

Barbara VanEpps, 66, of Potterville, formerly of Jackson, died Thursday, March 22, 2001.

Mrs. VanEpps was born April 15, 1934 in Milton, Fla., the daughter of Lamar and Louise (Toushstone) Griffith.

She is survived by daughters, Carol Schlee of Potterville, Phyllis Schlee of Bath; sons, William (Georgia) Schlee of Olivet, Richard (Janice) of Jackson, and Michael (Sandy) Green of Tennessee; sisters, Dorothy (Orville) Williams of Alabama, Fay Peregrins of Tallahassee, Fla., Mrytleen (Willis) Brandon of Florida, Terry (Bert) Basilio of Cantonment, Fla.; brother, Phillip Griffith of California; 27 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland VanEpps in 1996; brothers, Gerald, Archie, Frank, Thomas, and Mryle Griffith.

Funeral services were held March 25 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Woodbury officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family; envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Vaughn E. Van Sickle

Vaughn Ervin Van Sickle, 86, of Bellevue, died May 5, 2001 at his home.

Mr. Van Sickle was born Nov. 8, 1914 to Roy and Ada (Neff) Van Sickle in Bellevue. He was a lifetime farmer on the family farm on Young Road in Bellevue. He married Nellie Turner on Dec. 10, 1938 on her family farm; she survives. Mr. Van Sickle was a member of the Eaton County and Michigan Farm Bureau; the ASCS board for 25 years; the Bellevue Board of Review for 25 years; served as secretary of the Farm Bureau Elevator board; a member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church, including the Methodist Men’s Club; and the Commercial Club. Mr. Van Sickle was an active member with 4-H while his children were members, including the 4-H fairs. He always attended the school activities of his children, including FFA, shop exhibits, basketball, football, and band. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, camping, farming, square dancing, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Mollie Stevens of Bellevue; sons, James, Marvin, and Nyle of Bellevue; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a great great grandchild, and an infant brother, Orin Abram.

Services were held May 9 at Bellevue United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, Bellevue United Methodist Church, or the Bellevue Community Schools Scholarship Fund. Arrangement by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Katherine I. VaVerka

Katherine Irene VaVerka, 82, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001.

Mrs. VaVerka was born May 10, 1918 in Portland, Ore., the daughter of Secondo and Marie (Domcik) Capra. She was a school secretary for Redfield Union Schools.

She is survived by son, Robert (Mary) VaVerka of Charlotte; daughter, Kathy Lowman of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Brusseau of Detroit; and brother, Theodore Capra of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by husband, Walter VaVerka in 2000.

A family gathering will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice.

Harding W. Vedder

Harding W. Vedder, 79, of Charlotte, died Saturday morning, July 21, 2001 at a Lansing hospital.

Mr. Vedder was born June 14, 1922 in Roxand Township, a son of Edward and Lula (Winters) Vedder. He was a retired employee of Aluminum Extrusions and a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; two sons, Gary (Helen) of Charlotte and Larry of Lansing; one daughter, Tonya (Mark) VanBuren of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Kristie (Corey) Lehman, Michael Vedder and Joel Harding VanBuren; one step-great-grandson, Colin; three sisters, Letha Bentley, Doris (William) Feasal and Velma (John) Marsh, all of Mulliken; two brothers, Ward of Mulliken and Keith (Roberta) of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held July 24 at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Mulliken, with Elder Richard Garn officiating. Pallbearers were John King, Rick McCloy, Mark VanBuren, Bryant Vedder, Dwayne Vedder and Martin Vedder. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Cole and Larry King.

Arrangements were by Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken.

Kenneth A. Vickery Jr.

Kenneth A. Vickery Jr., 65, of Bellevue, died March 9, 2001 at home.

Mr. Vickery was born Sept. 18, 1935 to Kenneth and Donna Marie (Seitler) Vickery Sr. in Battle Creek. He graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1954, and worked for Kellogg’s for 29 years, retiring in 1995. He married Alice Stephens on June 29, 1963 in Battle Creek; she survived. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club, the National Rifle Association, and Garrison Hills Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood-working, taxidermy, gardening, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his father, Kenneth Vickery Sr., of Millersburg; son, Kenneth Vickery III of Bellevue; daughters, Heidi Bartha and Shannon Pelchat of Bellevue, and Jody Luna of Battle Creek; three grandchildren; and a brother, K. Albert Vickery of Tampa Bay, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Marie (Seitler) Vickery in 1998.

Services were held March 13 at Garrison Hills Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Richard Weesner officiating. Interment was at Austin Cemetery, Convis Twp.

Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice Care, or the American Cancer Society.

George S. Vincent

George S. Vincent, age 91 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at his residence. He was born February 16, 1910 in Midland the son of Ernest Austill and Ella Mae (Phinney) Vincent. George was a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol and was employed as an auto body repairman for Hathaway Body Works in Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, R.G., Chester and Elmer.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Florence; 4 daughters, Barbara Jean (Merrell) Bishir of Marion, IN, Bessie Jane (Harry) Rummins of Barryton, Rosemary Jean Shong of Eaton Rapids, and Alma Mae Baker of Lansing; 3 sons, Douglas Dwain (Donna) Vincent of Muskegon, Richard Allen (Beverly Jean) Vincent, Stanley (Terri) Swift both of Eaton Rapids; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 36 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margurita Vincent.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 15, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Kevin Welsh. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the Eaton County Community Foundation in memory of George S. Vincent.

Betty Adell Visel

Betty Adell Visel, age 77 of Eaton Rapids formerly of Rives Junction, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001 in Lansing. Betty was born October 8, 1924 in South Lyon, the daughter of John and Josephine Adell (Wild) Kingsley. She was preceded in death by her son, Dale Wesley Visel; granddaughter, Sarah Wiles; and grandson, Paul Dale Nelson.

Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wesley D.; was a wonderful mother to 3 daughters, Betty Carol Wiles of Arizona, Lucy Joan (Ron) Nelson of NC, Lena May (Joe) Gibson of Texas; 1 son, Tom Joe (Rose Ann) Visel of Charlotte; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and sister, Virginia May Goodhart of OK.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Ron Nelson officiating. Interment followed at Washtenaw Memorial Park, Ann Arbor.
