Dorian Moon

Dorian D. Moon, 67, of Bellevue died Dec. 7, 1999, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte.

Mr. Moon was born in Walton Township, Eaton County, the son of Fred and Genevieve (Walter) Moon and had been a lifelong Bellevue and Olivet area resident. He was a farmer and had been employed in the construction trades. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by one daughter, Roxanne (Marvin) Morrison of Richfield, N.C.; one son, Michael of Bellevue; four grandchildren; and one brother, Carroll (Peggy) of Olivet.

Military graveside services were Dec. 10 at the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

James Moore

James Moore, 85, of Hastings, died on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999 at Thornapple Manor.

Mr. Moore was born Nov. 23, 1913 in Alanson, the son of Archie and Margaret (Huey) Moore. He was raised in the Alanson area and attended schools there, graduating from Alanson High School. He moved to Hastings in 1947 from Kansas. He was married to Mary Duffy on May 29, 1941; she died April 10, 1985. Mr. Moore was employed at Hastings Manufacturing Co. from 1947 until he retired in 1975. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He also did small engine repairs and TV repairs.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Riggs of Ypsilanti, Barbara (Dick) Bayes of Charlotte, Cathrine (David) Hathaway of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Carrie VanDyke of Twin Lake; brothers, Homer Moore of Ionia, Travis Moore of Farwell; brother-in-law, Joe (Sharon) Duffy of Hastings; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three brothers.

Respecting his wishes, private family services were conducted. Interment was at Fuller Cemetery, Carlton Twp., Barry Co.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Thornapple Manor Memory Walk Fund.

Laura V. Moore

Laura V. Moore, age 78, of Eaton Rapids died Saturday, August 21, 1999 in Charlotte. She was born March 16, 1921 in Hamlin Township, the daughter of Thomas and Kate Hillard. Laura was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate class of 1938. She was a retired secretary for the Eaton Rapids School system, a life member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #241 Eaton Rapids, VFW Auxiliary and a member of the First Congregational Church.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Murray; son, Marvin (Mindy) Moore of Halifax, Nova Scotia and daughter, Mellissa (William) Hass of Charlotte; 4 grandchildren, David and Sam Moore and Bill and Anita Hass; brother, James (Myrtle) Hillard of Eaton Rapids and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 25th at 1 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, with the Rev. Max Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with an O.E.S. memorial service being conducted at 7 p.m. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to either the O.E.S. #241 Eaton Rapids or the First Congregational Church in memory of Laura V. Moore.

Annabell Moreland

Annabell (Graham) (Clifford) Moreland, 76, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Lansing, died Nov. 25, 1999 at the Largo Medical Center.

Mrs. Moreland was born in Albion, the daughter of Orval and Bertha (Wise) Graham. She was a retired supervisor of Direct Mailing Co., Clearwater, Fla.

She is survived by five daughters, Bonnie Biscoe of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kathie Clifford of Lansing, Dorthea Clifford of St. Petersburg, Barbara Holmer of Largo, and Cora Walstead of St. Petersburg; one son, Emory of Largo; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Whitmore and Nella Wells, both of Charlotte, and Sydonna Schantz of Hastings; and one brother, Lester Graham of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Margery Walker and Ellen Neff, and three brothers, Kenneth, Arlo and Rex Graham.

Cremation has taken place.

Graveside services were Dec. 4 at the North Clarence (Hunt) Cemetery, Springport, with the Rev. Marc Livingston officiating. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Fund.

Barbara Morris

Barbara Morris, 63, of Vermontville died Oct. 18, 1999 in Lansing.

Mrs. Morris was a lifelong resident of Eaton County, graduating from Grand Ledge High School in the class of 1954. She was a former 4-H leader and had helped her husband, Jonnie, farm for the past 44 years.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jonnie; two daughters, Debra (Mike) Martin of Charlotte and Sherry (Michael) Jansen of Forest Grove, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Monisa, Michael, Matthew, Andrew, and Kristen Martin, and Matthew and Christopher Jansen; her parents, Edwin and Lena DeLamater of Grand Ledge; three sisters, Diana (Robert) Nourse and Kathryn (Robert) Havens, all of Wacousta, and Cynthia (William) Larsen of Grand Ledge; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Michael, in 1974.

Services were Oct. 21 at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospital Neuro Intensive Care Unit or the Gift of Life.

Donald Morrissey

Donald Robert Morrissey, 84, of Delton, formerly of Potterville, died Dec. 17, 1999 at his residence.

Mr. Morrissey was born Sept. 11, 1915 in Lansing, the son of Edward and Lula (Havens) Morrissey. He was a carpenter and custodian for the Waverly Public Schools, Lansing, volunteer fireman for Potterville Fire Department, and an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by three daughters, Verda (Gene) Humes and Sandy (Gray) Smith, both of Potterville, and Sally (James) Shively of Charlotte; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite in 1993; two sons, Steven in 1986 and Victor in 1999; and two brothers, Rex and Edward.

Services were Dec. 20 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Interment was in the Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Potterville’s Imagination Station playground fund.

Victor Morrissey

Victor Dale Morrissey, 64, of Riverdale died Jan. 12, 1999.

Mr. Morrissey was born Jan. 13, 1934 in Charlotte, the son of Donald and Marguerite (Bowers) Morrissey. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He retired from Oldsmobile in 1983 and enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by one son, Daniel (Kelly) of Rockford; two daughters, Vickie (Eugene) Morey of Milan and Carie (Ken) Swansen of Lansing; six grandchildren; his father, Donald; and three sisters, Sally (James) Shively of Charlotte and Sandra (Gray) Smith of Dimondale, and Verda (Gene) Humes of Potterville.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1993 and one brother, Steven in 1985.

Services were Jan. 16 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Interment was in the Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.

Rush Morrow

Rush T. Morrow, 101, of Charlotte, died Dec. 31, 1998.

Mr. Morrow was born Feb. 25, 1897 in Topeka, Ind., the son of Frank and Laura Belle Morrell Morrow. He had a strong interest in writing poetry and was recently published in Outstanding Poets of 1998, published by the National Library of Poetry. He was Charlotte’s only known surviving World War I veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post #42, Charlotte, and a VFW Post in Detroit. He had been around the world three times and enjoyed visiting the Middle and Far East the most, including Hong Kong, Russia and Nepal, where he met Sir Edmund Hillary. After the war, he attended Argubright Business College in Battle Creek, worked in Detroit in the automobile industry, and was a real estate broker.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, whom he married in 1959; and two sons, R. Conrad (Wendy Neideck) of Farmington Hills and Mel (Arlene) of Waterford.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Melva Way in 1957.

Services were Jan. 5 at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Charles Moore officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
