Gertrude (Borgman) Meyer

Gertrude (Borgman) Meyer, 86, of Tampa and Dunnellon, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died April 21, 1998 at the University Village Nursing Center in Tampa after a long illness.

Mrs. Meyer was born in Rome Center, the daughter of Porter A. and Mable S. (Knowles) Beal. She was a Registered Nurse having worked for many years at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte, where she retired. She was a member of the Village Church of Rainbow Spring in Dunnellon, Rainbow Estates Hospital Association, Rainbow Lakes Estates Republican Club and Women’s Club.

She is survived by her two sons, John R. (Jan) Borgman of Elkhart, Ind. and Milton H. (Sharon) Borgman of College Grove, Tenn.; two daughters, Carolyn (Emerson) Ray of Lutz, Fla. and Mafra (Ray) Young of Barron, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four brothers, L. Charles Beal of Three Rivers, Edward Beal of Tecumseh, Chester Beal of Adrian, and R. Daniel Beal of Hudson; and three sisters, Marjorie V. Stubli of Hudson, Portia Coury of Troy and Lucretia Goodlock of Stockbridge.

She was preceded in death by one son, Albert Borgman; first husband, Harold Borgman; and second husband, Everet Meyer.

Graveside services and interment were held April 25 at the Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet, with Pastor Tom Havens officiating. Arrangements were made by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Margaret Meyer

Margaret (Holwig) Meyer, age 80, passed away August 9, 1998. She was born December 1, 1917, to William and Mildred (Boody) Holwig. She took her nurses training at Mercy Hospital, Jackson and worked at Hayes Green Beach Hospital until entering the Navy in WWII. She served in North Africa where she met Lt. Harold Meyer. They were married September 8, 1945.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother Harry and granddaughter Heather McGaw. Surviving are her husband Harold, son Jeff (Dee) Meyer, daughter Beth (Doug) McGaw, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, one great-grandson, brother Guy (Gretchen) Holwig, sister Mary (Myron) Montie and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held August 14 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Herron, MI. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte, or Eaton Community Hospice, PO Box 636, Charlotte MI 48813 in memory of Margaret (Holwig) Meyer.

Philip Michel

Philip G. Michel, 62, of Olivet died at Sparrow Hospital, Sept. 9, after a battle with brain cancer.

He was born March 7, 1936, in Charlotte, the son of Julius and Everil (Bush) Michel. He attended Olivet College and the University of Michigan, earning a master’s degree in social work. He worked at the central office of the Family Independence Agency for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Genie; one stepdaughter, Maria; two stepsons, Michael and Matthew; his mother, Peg Michel of Charlotte; sister, Dolores Wendell of Charlotte; three grandsons, Jacob, Stephen and Joshua; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Sept. 15 at the First Congregational Church in Charlotte with the Rev. Clark Hock and the Rev. Peter Brenner officiating. Arrangements were prepared by the Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Olivet College, American Brain Tumor Association, or the Friends of Cooley Garden.

Keitha J. Miller

Keitha J. Miller, 66, of Clifford Lake, Stanton, formerly of the Lansing and Charlotte area, died at her home Jan. 18, 1998.

Mrs. Miller was born in Portland June 5, 1931, to George and Procilla Gilmore. She was a 1949 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. She was a life member of VFW Auxiliary #2406, Charlotte, and an active golfer in several Charlotte and Eaton Rapids leagues. She married Francis Miller on April 19, 1969.

She is survived by her husband, Ron; one stepdaughter, Deborah (Jim) Logan of Florida; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two uncles and aunts; and several cousins.

Services were Jan. 21 at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer society or the charity of one’s choice.

Linda D. Miller

Linda Darlee (Holdcraft) Miller, 51, of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., formerly of Olivet, died Dec. 14, 1998.

Mrs. Miller was born July 24, 1947, and had been a bar tender at the American Legion in Fort Myers Beach.

She is survived by three daughters, Dena (Skip) Shaw of Olivet, Michelle (Mike) Lee of Ft. Myers Beach, and Kara (David) Chase of Ft. Myers Beach; one grandson, Cameron Shaw; her mother, Inez Smiley of Muncie, Ind.; three sisters, Judy Ann (Randy) Pegg of Albany, Ind., Judy Lynn (Mike) McBeth of Albany, and Ronda Moreno of Muncie; and five nieces and nephews. She also leaves her little dog, Ginger.

She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin “Jake” Smiley in 1991 and husband Orville Miller in 1996.

Services were held at the American Legion at Ft. Myers Beach.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #247, 899 Buttonwood Drive, Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., 33931.

Clara E. Milne

Clara E. Milne, 93, of Charlotte died July 18, 1998, at the Eaton Manor Nursing Home in Charlotte after a long illness.

Mrs. Milne was born in Delhi Township, Ingham County, the daughter of Solomon and Lena (Lemoreaux) Schnepp. She had been a Charlotte resident since 1937, coming from Potterville. She had been self-employed doing housekeeping for several individuals and businesses in the Charlotte area, including Burkhead Funeral Home.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Adams of Williamston and Joyce (George) Norton of Walled Lake; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Higbie of DeWitt.

She was preceded in death by her son, George Milne; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Services were July 22 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Harold Cherry officiating. Interment was in Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.

Louise A. Misener

Louise Anne (Croy) Misener, 72, of Charlotte, formerly of Lansing, died Aug. 13, 1998, at her residence.

Mrs. Misener was born in Lansing, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Stinebower) Croy. She had been a livelong Lansing resident until moving to Charlotte one and one-half years ago. She was a 1943 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and 1946 graduate of the Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse, having worked at Sparrow Hospital and Lansing General Hospital, was the clinic nurse at Gardner Middle School in Lansing, and worked for a time at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte. She had been a Girl Scout Leader for Troop #249 in South Lansing and was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Charlotte.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; one daughter, Ricci (Eugene) Eschtruth of Grand Ledge; one son, Dean of Lansing; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services were Aug. 17 at the First Lutheran Church, Charlotte. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing. Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice or First Lutheran Church.

Ella Mitchell

Ella (Newsome) Mitchell, age 65, of Springhill, Fla., formerly of Harper Woods, Mich., died June 13, 1998 at the Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla., after a short illness.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Melvin, KY, the daughter of John B. and Matilda (McCoy) Newsome. She had been a resident of Springhill for five years, moving there from Harper Woods. She was employed as a news assistant for the Wall Street Journal of Dow Jones Co., having worked in Detroit. She retired in 1989 after 30 years of service.

Surviving are her husband, Kelzo Mitchell; four sisters, Vanecia Tackett of River Rouge, Mich., Virginia Crawford of Melvin, KY, Patricia Ann Martin of Langley, KY, and Mary Kathryn Bailey of Harold, KY; four brothers, Sterlon Newsome of Cowpens, SC, Archie Newsome of Springport, Otis Newsome of Charlotte, and Freddie Newsome of Charlotte; and her stepmother, Della Newsome of Melvin, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Herbert, Forest, Cecil, Wm. Clifford, Arthur, Marcus and Roland, and sisters, Edith and Lillian.

Funeral services were Friday, June 19, at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Robert Doner officiating. Interment was in the North Clarence (Hunt) Cemetery near Springport.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
