Gerald B. Healey

Gerald B. Healey, 64, of Dimondale died March 5, 1997.

Mr. Healey was born March 14, 1932, in Lansing, the son of Howard and Majel Healey. He was a 1950 graduate of Olivet High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War Conflict where he served at the rank of staff sergeant. He had been employed at Oldsmobile for 32 years and was a member of the U.A.W. #652. He was a member of the Delta Haven Free Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Michael (Kelli) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mark (Sue) of Parma; two daughters, Diane (Terry) Thompson of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Kimberly (Jon) Dodge of Lansing; his parents, Howard and Majel Healey of Apopka, Fla.; one sister, Mary Anne (Joe) Hines of Apopka, Fla.; one brother, David of Elkhart, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Wanzer.

Services were March 8 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel. Interment was in the Deepdale Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Margaret H. Heinze

Margaret H. Heinze, 86, passed away Oct. 15, 1997, at her residence in Mulliken.

Mrs. Heinze was born Oct. 30, 1910, in Oneida Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Ralph J. and Blanch (Drake) Lipsey. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School and County Normal. She taught school for many years and later was employed by the State of Michigan in Lansing, until her retirement in 1977.

She is survived by 3 sons, Dr. Douglas (Sally) Heinze of Howell, Rodney (Linda) Heinze of Vermontville, and Philip (Peggy) Heinze of Sunfield; 4 daughters, Nancy (Ken) Lancaster of Hastings, Carolyn (Leon) Cluckey of Martin, Ohio, Janice Heinze of Panama City, Fla., and Jeanette Nevins of Charlotte; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph (Jean) Lipsey of Grand Ledge; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thraves; and sister, Clarice Rhodes.

Services were Oct. 17 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Interment followed in Benton Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice or to a scholarship fund of your choice.

Hazel Heisler

Hazel G. (Sine) Heisler, 87, of Marshall died Sept. 4, 1997, at the Michigan Capitol Medical Center, Greenlawn Campus, Lansing after an extended illness.

Mrs. Heisler was born Dec. 16, 1909, Calhoun County, the daughter of Luey R. and Mary E. (Long) Sine. She had been a resident of Lee Township most of her life. She attended the Striped School, a once prominent rural school in Calhoun County, was a graduate of Marshall High School and the Calhoun County Normal. Also, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University. She taught in many rural schools. Mrs. Heisler joined the faculty at Olivet Community Schools as teacher and also served as Teacher-Principal for 7 ˝ years. She retired in 1973 with 41 ˝ years of service. She was a member of the Lee Center United Methodist Church, where she did many things. Also, she was a member of the Michigan and National Education Associations, the AARP, and many other committees of the Teachers Organizations.

She is survived by a grandson, Jerry (Brenda) Heisler of Olivet; one granddaughter, Patricia Hodgkinson of Marshall; three great-grandchildren; sister, Peg Reed of Albion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald “Jeff” Heisler; son, Luey Heisler; brothers, Lawrence Sine and Ormond Sine; and by a sister, Florence.

Services were Sept. 8 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Valerie Hill officiating. Interment was in the Lee Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lee Center United Methodist Church or the Olivet Community Schools.

Marion I. Heisler

Marion I. (Southworth) Heisler, 86, of Charlotte, formerly of Olivet, died Sept. 7, 1997, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte, after an extended illness of several months.

Mrs. Heisler was born in Eaton Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Clifton and Ruth (Creitz) Southworth. She was a lifelong Charlotte/Olivet resident. She was a retired employee of the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte. Mrs. Heisler was a member of the Olivet and Charlotte Rebekah Lodge and attended the Olivet Senior Citizens group.

She is survived by her daughter, LeAnn (Charles) Green of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Heisler of Charlotte; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy (Victor) Halsey of Charlotte and Eleanor Potocki of Hilton Head Island, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil G. Heisler; three sons, Gary, Clifton, and Cecil Jr.; sister, Donis Lashbrook.

Services were Sept. 11 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.

Marian I. Hicks

Marian I. Hicks, 70, of Charlotte died Jan. 29, 1997.

Mrs. Hicks was born Nov. 14, 1926, the daughter of Clarence and Imo (Sturdevant) Sloan. She was a rural mail carrier until her retirement in 1992. She had also been a former realty associate and local accountant. She was affiliated with Meals on Wheels, Helping Hands, the Wednesday afternoon bowling league, and American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; one daughter, Judy Trayer of Charlotte; four sons, Richard of Charlotte, Scott (Mary Kay) of Traverse City, Larry (Kelly) of Alma, and Michael of Lansing; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Imo Sloan of Charlotte; and three sisters, Vivian (Edward) Bobcik of Charlotte, Lillian (Ed) Smith of Kalamazoo, and Karen Bowers of Dimondale.

Services were Jan. 31 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

Kenneth C. Higgins

Kenneth C. Higgins, 82, of DeWitt died June 28, 1997.

Mr. Higgins was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Eaton Rapids, the son of Willard and Merle (Mellon) Higgins. He graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1932 and received his master’s degree from Albion College in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He was a teacher and coach for Albion Public Schools, retiring in 1976.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Esther (Nelson); one daughter, Genie (John) of DeWitt; one son, Kenneth (Donita) of Florida; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Bruce of Eaton Rapids; and one sister, Betty of Eaton Rapids.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Private services will be held in Albion. Arrangements were made by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hazel Findlay Manor, St. Johns, or First United Methodist Church in Albion.

Leo J. Hitpas

Leo J. Hitpas, 78, of Jackson (formerly of Charlotte) died July 11, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Hitpas served 4 ˝ years in the Air Force in the Pacific during WWII. He retired as manager after 34 years with the G.C. Murphy Company in Charlotte. He was part president of the Kiwanis Club in Ohio, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the VFW. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vera K. Hitpas; son, Jim (Tina) Hitpas of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Nancy (Jim) Halbeisen of Brooklyn; and granddaughter, Lori Halbeisen of North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial mass was held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte. Arrangements were made by the Desnoyer Funeral Home in Jackson. Flower contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

Eveline S. Hoch

Eveline S. Hoch, 79, of Apollo Beach, Fla., formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Jan. 29, 1997, at Columbia South Bay Hospital, Sun City Center, Fla.

Mrs. Hoch was born Oct. 28, 1917, in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Jay and Dema (Tubbs) Bush. She was a retired bookkeeper for the National Bank of Eaton Rapids and a former member of the First Congregational Church, Eaton Rapids. She was a 1935 graduate of Eaton Rapids High School.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy (James) Miller of Apollo Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Matthew (Kathy) Miller and Sara Miller, both of Apollo Beach, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Anne Bush of Murrell’s Inlet, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were Feb. 3 at the Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with the Rev. Carl Sundermeyer of the First Congregational Church, Eaton Rapids, officiating. Interment was in the Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital.
