Roger D. Hosey

Roger D. Hosey, 60, of Nashville died March 19, 1997, at the Hospice of Greater Grand Rapids.

Mr. Hosey was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Walton Township, Eaton County, the son of Melvin and Mary (Halsey) Hosey. He was a 1954 graduate of Vermontville High School. He married Kathleen Ballard March 27, 1957, in Vermontville. He earned a journeyman status in machine repair in 1970 and was employed at Oldsmobile and McKesson Company, both in Lansing; Bliss Manufacturing in Hastings; and Rockwell Company, Battle Creek.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; one daughter, Rae (Jeff) Murphy of Nashville; one son, Roger (Angie) of Nashville; three granddaughters, Kathryn Murphy of Memphis and Cassady and Aubrey Murphy, both of Nashville; his mother, Mary Halsey of Vermontville; his mother-in-law, Tina Ballard of Bellevue; three sisters, Ardella (George) Hall of Roscommon, Wilma (Glenn) Powers of Vermontville; and Mary Lou (Doug) Faust of Charlotte; two brothers, Melvin (Harleen) of Coopersville and William (Marilyn) Hosey of Vermontville; one brother-in-law, Alfred (Sharon) Ballard of Bellevue; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin and one sister, Audra Reynolds.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were made by the Maple Valley Chapel-Genther Funeral Home, Nashville.

A memorial luncheon was held March 21 at the Nashville VFW Post.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Helen Howe

Helen Howe, 74, of Charlotte, died Jan. 19, 1997.

Mrs. Howe was born March 12, 1922, in Lyons, Kansas, the daughter of Emeroy and Francis Hysell. She was formerly employed by Aluminum Extrusions and Wilcox Gay, both in Charlotte. She was a past president and member of the VFW Post #2406 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Garland; one sister, Lila Berschaver of Albert, Kansas; two brothers, Hiram Hysell of Elsworth, Kansas, and Richard Hysell of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were Jan. 22 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with the Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Battle Creek.

Memorial contribution donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Frances M. Hunn

Frances M. Hunn, 70, of Charlotte died March 25, 1997.

Mrs. Hunn was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Fitzgerald, Ga., the daughter of James and Catherine (Dingledine) Kerr.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford; three sons, Thomas of Constantine, Ronald of Charlotte, and Jerry (Lisa) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, JoAnn (Larry) Jaseph of Three Rivers; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cleo Ripley of Thornapple Lake, and Gerry Berkes of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; and half-sister, Lela Strong of Jackson.

Graveside services were March 26 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands or Eaton Community Hospice.

Dennis W. Kloko

Dennis W. Kloko, 58, of Ashland, Mass., formerly of Charlotte, died Nov. 20, 1997, at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Kloko was born in Three Rivers, the son of Harold and Gladys (Bucknell) Kloko of Bradenton, Fla. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1957 and was a registered architect in Lansing; New York, N.Y.; and Boston, Mass., most recently serving as chief operating officer of Payette Associations, Inc., Boston, Mass. He was also chairman of the Organization for Business Professionals of Architecture Firms in the greater Boston area. Throughout his life, he had received many awards.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Graham; one son, Christopher Graham Kloko; and one sister, Sandra Huntley of Colorado.

Services will be Dec. 1 at the Federated Church of Ashland. Arrangements were made by the Matarese Funeral Homes in Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boston Foundation for Architecture, 52 Broad St., Boston, Mass.

Leora M. Knoll

Leora M. Knoll, 87, of Bellevue died Aug. 27, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Knoll was born April 22, 1910, in Vermontville Township, the daughter of Clyde and Ervilla (Varney) Everett. She was a 1927 graduate of Nashville High School. For 27 years, she was an upholsterer with the Charlotte Chair Co. She was previously employed as a Nashville telephone operator and worked at the American Legion Hospital in Battle Creek. She married Vern Knoll June 10, 1927 in Battle Creek and served for many years as a volunteer dispatcher for the Bellevue Rescue Squad.

She is survived by three sons, Owen of Nashville and Richard and Philip, both of Bellevue; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Cleone Knoll of Nashville; and one brother, Orville “Mike” Everett of Nashville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Dec. 23, 1980.

Graveside services were Aug. 29, at the Hicks Cemetery, Pennfield Township, with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Arrangements were made by the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Robert K. Lahr

Robert K. Lahr, 76, of Convis Township died Jan. 6, 1997, at home.

Mr. Lahr was born May 12, 1920, in Lincoln, Ill., the son of Earl and Elsie (Hindman) Lahr. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942-1946. He married Audrey Carl on March 25, 1946, in Ceresco. He was employed at Post Cereals in Battle Creek from which he retired in 1971 after 20 years of service. He retired from farming in 1977. He planted and took care of all the flower beds at Ideal Speedway in Springport and helped with communications at several I-94 rest stops during the holidays with “Operation Care.”

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; two sons, Steven (Wanda) of Albion, and Robert (Nancy) of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Bill, Don, Roy, and Tony all of Illinois, and Joe of Missouri; and three sisters, Mary, Eileen, and Mildred all of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by one son, Clyde, who died in Vietnam in 1969; one sister, Dorothy Piaseczny in 1996; and one great-grandchild.

Services were Dec. 9 at the Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with the Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was in the Hillsdale Cemetery, Kalamo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice Care or Visiting Nurse Services.

Charles H. Lake Sr.

Charles Henry Lake Sr., 56, of Charlotte, formerly of Marshall died May 16, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Lake was born Oct. 25, 1940, in Jackson, the son of Charles and Margaret (Sell) Lake. He attended Marshall schools and later took numerous college courses. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1957-1963. He worked at the Kellogg Company in Battle Creek for 25 years, retiring in June of 1995. He has lived in Charlotte since 1989 after moving from Pennsylvania, where he had been transferred with Kellogg’s in 1981. Prior to that, he lived in Marshall. His marriage to Judy Siefke ended in divorce. He married Doris McDonald Rose on Nov. 19, 1988, in Holt. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club, the Astronomy Club of Lansing, and was a member of Moose Lodge #676.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; two sons, Paul of Virginia and Charles Jr. of Marshall; one daughter, Merrie Lake of Marshall; four stepsons, Henry Siefke II of Marshall, Daniel Siefke of Battle Creek, Randy Keith of Lake Forest, Calif., and Raymond Keith of Nashville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Deborah Ward of Louisville, Ken., and Robin Brown of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren, Jessica Lake, Joshua, Sean, and Krystyn Daly, Jeffrey and Jamie Jessup, Erin Brown, Giovanni Maggnietti, Ashley and Randy Keith Jr., Matt Kyle and Lisa Ward, and Cory, Sara and Travis Siefke; his mother, Margaret Tucker of Marshall; one brother, Michael Lake of Paw Paw; five half brothers, Edward Lake of Jackson, Thomas Tucker, M. David Tucker, Clarence Tucker and Bryce Tucker, all of Marshall; three half sisters, Sharon Lowry and Kathleen Sutton both of Jackson and Louise Russell of Marshall; three step-sisters, Marilyn Moore of Cement City, Evelyn Southwell of Michigan Center and Diane McGulley of Jackson. one step-brother, Darold Leffler of Michigan Center; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his fathers, Charles Lake and Maurice Tucker; one half sister, Nancy Tucker; and one great-grandchild, Sean Jessup.

Services were May 20 at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Booth officiating. Interment was in the Oakridge Cemetery, Marshall.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Michigan Heart Association.

Jimmy D. Landis

Jimmy D. Landis, 64, of Coldwater died Nov. 21, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Landis was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Fremont, Ind., the son of Harold and Ruth (Williams) Landis. He worked for 31 years at the Oldsmobile plant in Lansing until retiring in 1987. He moved from Charlotte to Coldwater in 1987. He had served with the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He married Jean Fisher June 30, 1956. He was a member of American Legion Post #52 and the Coldwater Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; three daughters, Deborah (Steve) Montgomery of Charlotte, Rhonda (Martin) Procko of Courtland, Ohio, and Shelly (Tony) Sommer of Charlotte; his mother, Ruth Landis; two sisters, JoAnn Barnes of Angola and Julie Marteen of Coldwater; four brothers, Paul, Estle, David, and Martin, all of Coldwater; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; and brother, John Landis.

Services are Nov. 24 at Dutcher Funeral Home, Coldwater, with Dave Brown officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Home Health Care, Coldwater.
