Kathy S. Hodges

Kathy Sue Hodges, 43, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000.

Miss Hodges was born Dec. 29, 1956, the daughter of Clarence and Dorothy (Curley) Hodges. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Lansing.

Surviving are her parents; brother, Edward (Rose) Hodges of Charlotte; fiancé, Jerry Pomeroy; and special friend, Lilla Olson.

Funeral services were held Oct. 19 at Chruch of the Resurrection, Lansing, with Father Michael Petroski officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.

Patricia R. Hoffman

Patricia F. Hoffman, 63, of Nashville, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000 at Spectrum Health-East, Grand Rapids.

Mrs. Hoffman was born Nov. 22, 1937 in Rochester, the daughter of Omer and Doris (Mulholland) Carey. She was raised in the Charlotte area and attended schools there, graduating in 1956 from Charlotte High School. She lived in the Charlotte/Nashville area most of her life. She married Roy “John” Hoffman on Jan. 2, 1970; he died June 7, 2000. Mrs. Hoffman was employed at General Motors Corp. in Lansing from 1969 until she retired in 1986, and had previously worked for Michigan National Bank in Potterville. She was a member of Women of the Moose and the VFW Auxiliary, and enjoyed doing word search puzzles, gardening, bird watching, fishing, and watching soap operas on TV.

She is survived by four sons, Kevin (Cindy) Bumford of Battle Creek, and Kerwin, Gordon (Cindy) and Jeff Bumford, all of Nashville; one daughter, Lynn (Tom) Leonard of Hastings; two stepsons, Bill (Evelyn) Hoffman of Portland and Christopher (Treasa) Hoffman of Charlotte; two stepdaughters, Reda Hoffman of Eaton Rapids and Cindy Ripley of Detroit; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; two brothers, Dean (Ruth) Carey of Charlotte and Duane (Carolyn) Carey of Lansing; four sisters, Sue (Sam) Satterlee and Doreen (Harry) Stanton, both of Charlotte, Fonda (John) Hannaford of Sterling Heights, and Babe (Don) Bridges of Gladwin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gregg Bumford; grandson, Brandon Miser-Bumford; and father-in-law, Dewey Dull.

Services were held Dec. 19 at Wren Funeral Home, Hastings, with Rev. Alan Mettler officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery, Nashville. Arrangements were made by the Wren Funeral Home, Hastings.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Roy Hoffman

Roy “John” Hoffman, 62, of Nashville, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing.

Mr. Hoffman was born Oct. 6, 1937 in Nashville, the son of Eber and Dorotha (Callihan) Hoffman. He was raised in the Nashville area and attended school there. He lived in the same home in Nashville for the past 20 years, moving there form Charlotte. He married Patricia (Carey) Bumford on Jan. 1, 1971; she survives. Mr. Hoffman was employed at the Michigan Department of Transportation from 1964 until he retired in 1991. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working out of his fix-it shop at his home.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia; sons, Bill (Evelyn) Hoffman of Portland and Christopher (Treasa) Hoffman of Charlotte; daughters, Reda Hoffman of Eaton Rapids and Cindy Ripley of Westland; stepsons, Kevin (Cindy) Bumford of Battle Creek, Kerwin (Carol) Bumford of Delton, Gordon (Cindy) Bumford and Jeff Bumford, both of Nashville; stepdaughter, Lynn Jane (Tom) Leonard of Nashville; ten grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; mother, Dorotha Dull of Hastings; brother, Duane (Judy) Hoffman of Lake Odessa, Marvin (Laura Mae) Hoffman of Hastings, Ronald (Penny) Hoffman of Caledonia; sister, Patricia (Robert) Webb of Hastings; and, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; stepfather, Dewey Dull; stepson, Gregg Bumford; and stepgrandson, Brandon Misner.

Services were held June 10 at Wren Funeral Home, Hastings, with Rev. John Jakus officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery, Nashville.

Sally Holmes

Sally (McDonald) Holmes, 64, of Charlotte died Feb. 22, 2000 after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Holmes was born Aug. 7, 1935 in Charlotte, the daughter of Francis J. and Thelma C. (Howard) McDonald. She was a lifelong Charlotte resident and a 1953 graduate of Charlotte High School. She was very supportive of her children by being involved in the Charlotte Band Boosters and a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She had been employed for 24 years by General Motors SPO in Lansing.

She is survived by two daughters, Catherine (Francois) Moyet of Kalamazoo and Candace (Ronald) Moiles of Mattawan; two sons, Craig (Diane) of Huntersville, N.C. and Daniel (Staci) of Charlotte; four grandchildren Jud and Evan Moiles and Claire and Mathilde Moyet; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, A. Joseph in 1994, and one sister, Susie Mazurek.

Services were Feb. 26 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with the Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Lawrence Dimondale Center, Eaton Community Hospice, or American Caner Society.

The family is grateful to everyone who assisted with the care of their mother, with special recognition of One North at the St. Lawrence Dimondale Center.

Wesley V. Horn

Wesley V. Horn, age 90, died February 27, 2000. Mr. Horn was born in rural Pillager, Minnesota on July 16, 1909 to George Wesley and Flarra Belle Horn. He was a resident of the Lansing area for the past 60 years having lived at Park Lake, Holt and most recently Eaton Rapids. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and has been employed by Lorenz Bros. Buick and Phillip (Capitol) Dodge of Lansing as a body mechanic prior to his retirement in 1975.

Surviving are his son, George W. of DeWitt; 2 daughters, Beverly (Lew) Wilson of Eaton Rapids, and Gloria (Kenneth) Feher of Haslett; brother, Daniel of Baxter, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Horn was preceded in death by his wife Ardeth, grandchildren Susan Horn, 2 sisters and 10 brothers.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel. Interment was in Gunnisonville Cemetery, DeWitt Twp. Those wishing may contribute to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center or the Alzheimer Association.

Anni Hose

Anni “Oma” Hose, 92, of Lansing died Sept. 9, 2000.

Mrs. Hose was born Nov. 27, 1907 in Germany, the daughter of Johann and Rosa (Berg) Nemetz.

She is survived by one daughter, Christel (Mamun) Lojewski-Taha of Lansing; one brother, Hans Nemetz of Germany; one granddaughters, Karen (Scott) Silcox of Charlotte; two great-granddaughters, Mindy and Ashley; and two step-great-grandsons, Eric and Kyle.

Graveside services were Sept. 23 at the Needmore Cemetery, Chester Township, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Children’s Fund.

Mary Martha Hosler

Mary Martha Hosler, age 92 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, October 31, 2000 in Eaton Rapids. She was born January 15, 1908 in Lansing, the daughter of William F. and Altha E. (Chapman) Hall. Mary was a high school graduate and received her teacher’s degree at County Normal. She started teaching in 1929 at Boody Country School, then moved to Royston and then Bentley Country Schools. She ended up at Dimondale Elementary School, and when they merged with Holt, moving to the Holt school system. She retired as a school teacher and the Holt Administration brought her back as a Librarian, and before long became Elementary Library Supervisor for Holt. Mary has been a long standing member of the Robbins United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1993; 2 brothers, Lyle and Richard Hall; and a granddaughter, Ann Mary Grabow in 1976.

Surviving are 2 children, daughter, Marilyn (Harry) Grabow of Eaton Rapids and son, William L. (Norma) Holser of Dansville; 4 grandchildren, Joellen Hosler, Chris (Andrea) Hosler, Virginia (Richard) Berry and James (Patricia) Grabow; nephew, Lawrence (Jeraldine) Hall.

Funeral services were Friday, November 3, 2000 from the Robbins United Methodist Church, with Rev. Marty DeBow officiating. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Arrangements were made by the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring a memorial contribution may be made to the Robbins United Methodist Church in memory of Mary M. Hosler.

Kathryn B. Houck

Kathryn Bosworth Houck, 86, of Vermontville, died Nov. 28, 2000.

Mrs. Houck was born July 28, 1914 in Vermontville, the daughter of Jessie LeRoy “Roy” and Cora (Chatfield) Hager. She retired in 1980 after 16 years of serving as the Eaton County clerk. She had worked as a dental receptionist for Dr. McLaughlin, and was the former Vermontville Township clerk. She loved horses and received many awards and championships for her horses. She also enjoyed fishing, and was a charter member of the Vermontville Historical Society, as well as a member of the Eaton County Humane Society, National Organization of Women, First Congregational Church and LCA of Vermontville, Charlotte VFW Post #2406 Auxiliary, and Charlotte American Legion Post #42 Auxiliary.

She is survived by two sisters, Phyllis Kilpatrick of Vermontville and June Stair of East Lansing; one brother, Clair “Pat” Hager of Vermontville; nephews, Steve (Jodie) Kilpatrick of Lansing, Mike (Cecelia) Kilpatrick of California, Kevin (Mary) Kilpatrick of Portage, Earl “Bud” Townsend of Colorado, Bob Hager of South Carolina, and Bill Parkinson of Cadillac; nieces, Elouise Bowen of Battle Creek and Margaret Strang and June Nash, both of Lansing.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Verna Burk.

Services were held Dec. 1 at the First Congregational Church of Vermontville with Rev. Eric Lison officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville. Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home.

Donna Housler

Donna Lou Housler, 75, of Charlotte died July 10, 2000.

Ms. Housler was born Jan. 20, 1925 in Vermontville, the daughter of Arthur and LuLu (Culver) Housler. She was an office worker for the Atomic Energy Commission and served her country during World War II in the WACS.

She is survived by one brother, Paul Housler of Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte.

Robert Bishop Houston

Robert Bishop Houston, age 88, of Naples, FL, died Monday, February 21, 2000. He was a lifelong resident of Eaton Rapids before retiring to Bonita Springs, FL. Bob worked for Miller’s Ice Cream Factory for over 30 years.

He is survived by a son, James (Debbie) Houston of Cripple Creek, CO; a daughter, Ann (David) Hartley of Bonita Springs; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Roberta; a son, Stephen; and a brother, James.

Private graveside services were held at the Bonita Springs Cemetery on Friday, February 25th. For those desiring, a contribution to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 12502 North Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612 in memory of Robert.

Jerry L. Howard

Jerry L. Howard, 59, of Charlotte died Sept. 20, 2000.

Mr. Howard was born Dec. 4, 1940 in Charlotte, the son of Gerald and Dorothy (Brown) Howard.

He is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Rohder of Lansing; one son, Greg Howard; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services were Sept. 23 at Faith Tabernacle, Lansing, with Pastor Frances Simon officiating. Interment was in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Inc.
