Bethel Steele

Bethel Ann Steele, 72, of Parma, formerly of Eaton Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005 at Arbor Wood Assisted Living in Jackson.

She was born June 21, 1933 in Eaton Rapids, to Gerald and Rudy (Twitchell) Eitniear. Bethel married Robert L. Steele on April 14, 1951 in Eaton Rapids; he preceded her in death. Bethel was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. She was a member of North Parma Church and Eastern Star Chapter 270 of Parma-Springport, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting.

She is survived by her six children, Susan (Dennis) Urene of Shepherd, Linda (Bob) Everett of Parma,

Tom (Peggy) Steele of Parma, David (Sandy) Steele of Houghton Lake, Karen (John) Trumble of Horton and Julie (Shawn) Newton of Wheeler; 14 grandchildren, Jill, Rebecca, James, Emily, Nicole, Robert, Amy, Lauren, Mary, Ginny, Grace, Sarah, Kaitlyn and Lindsey; three great grandchildren, Jordyn, Rylee and Zachary; sister, Judith Miller of Newburg, Ore.; daughter-in-law, Robin (Doug) Saleau of Jackson; and special friends, Pat and Greg Wyble of Jackson and Marshall and Judy Farley of Parma.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry, in 1994; and a brother, Jim Eitniear.

Eastern Star Service was held Dec. 7. Funeral service was held Dec. 8 at the Parma Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with Pastor Michael Baker-Streevy officiating. Burial was at Plains Cemetery in Aurelius Township.

Eileen Stevens

Eileen Joy Stevens, 62, of Charlotte, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005.

Mrs. Stevens was born Dec. 18, 1942 in Lansing, the daughter of Cecil and Agnes (Davidson) Butler. She was a former member of the Lions Club of Charlotte, on the Charlotte Library Board, involved in fund-raising for the Charlotte senior center and was a co-founder of the Charlotte Area Recycling Center and a member of the Charlotte Optimist Club. Eileen shared her love for travel in Europe by sharing it with grade school children. She worked for the city of Charlotte for 23 years.

She is survived by her son, Christian Stevens of Charlotte; daughter, Lisa Stevens of Berkley; grandchildren, Tara and Emily Stevens; mother, Agnes Butler of Charlotte; sister, Susan (John) Brandt of Potterville; brother, David Butler of Charlotte; and sister-in-law, Jackie Butler of Sunfield.

She was p[receded in death by her husband, Jerry Stevens, in 1986; a son, Andrew Stevens, in 1994; and a brother, Allen Butler, in 2004.

Graveside funeral services were held Dec. 9 at Bosworth Cemetery in Walton “Township, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Community Library. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Shirley May Stevens

Shirley May Stevens, age 92, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 in Eaton Rapids. She was born December 12, 1912 in Jackson County, the daughter of Harry and Lula (Davison) Harrington. Shirley was a bookkeeper for the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital for many years and after retiring moved with her husband Max to Luzerne, Michigan. After Max’s death in 1995 she moved back to Eaton Rapids to be close to cousins and friends.

She is survived by cousins and friends and her close friend Donald “Deke” Miller.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 11, 2005 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Pallbearers were Deke Miller, Dennis Stevens, Roger Beattie, Tony Fedewa, Ben Holwig and William Holwig.

William George Steward

William G. Steward, age 73, of Eaton Rapids formerly of Springport, died Tuesday November 22, 2005. He was born March 29, 1932 in Athens, Michigan the son of Glen and Hazel (McNeal) Steward. Mr. Steward spent his life farming with his two brothers in rural Springport. He was an avid restorer and collector of antique tractors and a member of the Antique Tractor Club.

Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Mildred; 3 step-children, David Grover of Lansing, James (Theresa) Grover of Jackson, and Diana Tammen of Holt; 3 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kristine, and Gabrielle Grover, 2 brothers, Phillip (Margery) Steward, Glen (Carolyn) Steward and sister, Mary (Milton ) Shultz, all of Springport; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 26, 2005 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Eaton Community Hospice or Lansing Visiting Nurse Hospice in memory of William G. Steward.

Jack W. Stone

Jack W. Stone, 82, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005 in East Lansing.

Jack was born March 22, 1923 in Higbee, Mo., the son of Joseph Riley and Evelyn Henrietta (Clark) Stone. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp, Division 1, First Artillery, during the Asian Campaign in World War II and retired from Oldsmobile in 1987 after 25 years of service.

Jack was preceded in death by his son, Jack W. Stone Jr.; his daughter, Kristina Coleman; and two brothers, Joe and Bill.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maxine (Pitcher) Stone of Eaton Rapids; seven daughters, Judy (Orville) Bartley of Charlotte, Donna (John) McLaughlin of Lansing, Diana (Mark) Crises of East Lansing, Jo Johnson of Mason, Joni (Doug) Singletary of Lansing, Annette Adams of Lansing, Gloria McFadden of Lansing; 32 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Nov. 8 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment with military honors followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ingham Visiting Nurse Hospice.

Conner J. Strader

Conner J. Strader, Age 63 of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at a Lansing Hospital. Conner was born April 5, 1942 in Ypsilanti, the son of John and Joan (Wilcox) Strader. Mr. Strader served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of the U.A.W. Local #652. He had retired in 2002 as a Pinter for General Motors in Lansing. He formerly had worked for Speedway in Eaton Rapids and was currently Nigh Manager at the Dimondale Quality Dairy. Preceding him in death was a son and his parents.

Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Vickie; 4 children, Johnette Sue Edward of NC, Laurie (Duane) Gault of Eaton Rapids, Elizabeth “Sis” (Mike) Atchley of Eaton Rapids and Tom (David Michael) Wood of Dimondale; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Guy (Rocky) Strader of WV; numerous nieces and nephews and mother-in-law, Mary “Squeek” Steele of Eaton Rapids.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 13 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to T.J.’s Rescued Angels at 5786 Kinneville Rd., Eaton Rapids, MI, 48827 in memory of Conner Strader.

D. Bruce Stratton

D. Bruce Stratton, 70, of Dimondale, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005 at his home.

Mr. Stratton was born Sept. 21, 1934 in Lansing, the son of Robert and Christine (Dewar) Stratton. He owned Stratton Sports Cars and was formerly active in auto racing through the Sports Car Club of America. He was a real estate broker and built condominium projects in the Lansing, Grand Rapids and Harbor Springs areas, as the chairman of Continental Acquisitions in the 1970s. He was also a board member of the National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and a docent at the Michigan History Museum. Bruce spent his spare time flying and exploring the islands of Lake Michigan.

He will be missed by his wife, Charlyn 9levernier); daughters, Christine ()James) Rowe of Nome, Alaska, Lauren Noble of Midland, N.C., Kellyn (John) Sliwinski of Anchorage, Alaska; sons, Matthew (Lisa) Stratton of Dimondale, Stephen (Mary Ann) Stratton of Livonia, Andrew (Jenne) Stratton of Acworth, Ga., and Nathan (Nora) Stratton of Sausalito, Calif.; and 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Jimi Youngblood.

Memorial services were held Sept. 10 at the First Presbyterian Church of Dimondale. Interment was at Ohioville Cemetery, Burt Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burt Lake Christian Church, Burt Lake, MI 49717. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Steven Eugene Stucker

Steven Eugene Stucker, age 49, of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Palmyra, MI, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2005 in Eaton Rapids. Steven was born November 30, 1955 in Adrian, the son of DeArle Eugene and Joyce Elaine (Bierley) Stucker. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1973, served on the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Dept. from 1973 until 1988, has been employed by the City of Lansing Fire Department as an engineer/paramedic since 1990 and also was a Real Estate Associate for Conner Realty of Eaton Rapids. Steve was an active member and served on the church board of the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church.

Steve is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 29 years, Nancy (Thompson); 4 daughters, Lindsey, Katie (Jere) Swift, Ashlyn and Alyse, all of Eaton Rapids; parents, DeArle & Joyce (Bierley) Stucker of Blissfield; 2 brothers, Robert (Leigh Ann) Stucker of Howell, Douglas (Patty) Stucker of Temperance; 1 sister, Brenda (Andy) Hummell of AZ; 6 nieces and nephews; and the wonderful brothers and sisters of Lansing Fire Department.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church, 6044 S. Clinton Trail, with cremation to follow. Casket bearers will be Matthew Holzhei, Dennis Miller, Bryan Epling, David Boomer, Steven Mazurek and Jeffery Hanna. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Steven Stucker Memorial Fund in his memory. Arrangements are by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
