Ruby S. Brown

Ruby S. Brown, age 92, of Eaton Rapids, died May 7, 2005, surrounded by her family. Ruby was born July 23, 1912 in Eaton Rapids. God’s flower garden has been made more beautiful by the addition of Ruby Brown. Everyone’s life that she touched sensed a peace that only comes from knowing the Maker as she did all her life. There were times she wondered if she had done enough, but the final Judge knew she had. In all the pictures of our mother, not one has anything but a smile and a peaceful look for all observers. Ruby had suffered those last three years but due to the extraordinary sacrifices of her daughter Patricia, she was able to continue and inspire all of us. God was working through her daughter. Even amongst the physical pain, Ruby thought of others first. She taught her children how to play golf, how to get along, and ultimately how to live and love. You could never catch up on the local gossip from Ruby because she never had anything bad to say about anyone, choosing to either remember the good or remain silent. One of her favorite sayings was “If you don’t have something good to say, don’t say anything.”

She leaves behind only friends and loved ones. Included in her family are her daughter Patricia (John) Mercer and sons Edward (Judith), Roger (Johanna), and Steven (Valerie) and her precious 7 grandchildren, Kirstin, Gregory, Jack, Jonathan, Rebecca, Elisabeth, and Rachel. She now joins many loved ones including her father and mother (Frank and Mary Shopbell), husband Howard with whom she shared 50 years and with whom she showed extreme love and patience, and her sister Ava. She will always be amongst us, but for the present there surely exists a gaping hole in our lives. Thank you for always being there for us.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at Noon at Aurelius Baptist church, 4419 W. Barnes Road, Mason, with the Rev. Stephen Aikin, officiating.
