Laura L. Brooks

Laura L. Brooks of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, age 81 of Eaton Rapids died Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, MI. Born March 7, 1929 in Honcut, California, the daughter of William and Mary (Disbrow) Lane. Laura’s hobbies included sewing, crocheting and tending to her flowers, she also enjoyed supervising during the canning season. Preceding her in death were her husband Gene Hoag in 1952 and Emil Brooks in 1971; brother, Laurence Deview in 1945.

She is survived by her two sisters, Lorraine Whiting of Eaton Rapids and Erma Herman of California; nieces and nephews, Elaine Blackburn of Lansing, Harold (Bev) Whiting of Eaton Rapids, Margaret (Dan) Yerke of Ada and Wayne Whiting of Lansing and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on October 14, 2010 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Rev. Mark Eckert of the Calvary Lutheran Church officiated. .

Douglas L. Brown

Douglas L. Brown of Portland formerly of Eaton Rapids, on Friday, April 9, 2010, passed away to join the Lord and be reunited with his father, Cleo and brother, Rodney along with many other lost family and friends. Doug graduated from the Eaton Rapids High School in 1968. He worked as a parts manager for 35 years at various places. Although Doug’s health problems kept him from doing some of the things he loved; like hunting, camping and traveling, he was able to do something he truly loved everyday, play with his granddaughter, Melody and his little white dog Bear. Doug was a great and caring man who will be loved and missed by all. Thanks to Jim Nurenburg, Pastor Marilyn Danielson, Mick Hurnley, Chad Partlow and Dr. Garald Brown.

Surviving are his daughter, Deana (Jon) Stoken of Portland; mother, Ilene Brown of Eaton Rapids; granddaughter, Melody Ilene Stoken; sister, Judy (George) Marr of Huntington Station, NY; brother, Donald (Laurel) Brown of Garden, MI; Curtis Lownsbery and Nate Foster; nieces and nephews, Dion (Linda) Brown, Sherry (Dean) Hale, Lisa (Kyle) Campbell, George (Jill) Marr and Nancy Marr; great nieces and nephews, Nate Foster, Toni Foster, Rachel Campbell, Anna Campbell, Dalton Hale, Rebecca Hale, Douglas Marr and Gorge Marr.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Stephen Klink, officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamblin Township. .

Frances J. Brown

Frances J. Brown, 83, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Eaton Community Hospice House. Fran was born June 22, 1927 in Brunwell, Ala., the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Conort) Long and had been a Charlotte resident since 1959 coming from Pontiac. She was a former member of the Charlotte Country Club and the Charlotte Woman’s Club GFWC.

Surviving are: her husband of 62 years, William J. Brown; three sons, William J. Brown III of Eaton Rapids, David M. Brown of Lake Odessa and Robert M. (Cecille) Brown of Birmingham, Mich.; six grandchildren, Marci (Marcel) Pfeiffer, Tessa (Chris) Wackerle, Adam Brown, Ian Brown, Mary Brown and Justin Brown and four great grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, step-father, Gomer Doak and step-brother, Gomer Doak, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may go to the Eaton Community Hospice House.

Ilene Rebecca Brown

On Friday July 16, 2010, Ilene Rebecca Brown of Eaton Rapids passed away to join the Lord and to be reunited with her husband, Cleo and sons, Rodney and Douglas as well as many other lost family and friends. Ilene grew up on Shepherd MI, with her 7 brothers and sisters. Later in her early teens, she moved to Eaton Rapids where she met the love of her life Cleo, and completed her schooling through the 10th grade. Later, she began work on the assembly line in small parts at Eaton Stamping and continued to work there for 30 years. Her husband and family were her pride and joy and she was active in the bowling league and with her church family.

She is survived by her children, Judy (George) Marr of Huntington Station, NY and Donald (Laurel) Brown of Garden, MI; grandchildren, Dion (Linda) Brown, Sherry (Dean) Hale, Lisa (Kyle) Campbell, George (Jill) Marr and Nancy Marr; great grandchildren, Nate Foster, Toni Foster, Deanna Lownsberry, Dalton Hale, Rebecca Hale, Josie Brown, Rachel Campbell, Anna Campbell, Melody Ilene Stoken; Douglas Marr and George Marr; sisters, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held July 19, 2010 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Burial followed at the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamlin Township. . Ilene was a beautiful and caring person on the inside and out. She gave a lifetime of unconditional love and support to her family and friends and will be missed greatly.

Sylvia E. Brown

Sylvia E. Brown, 102, of Charlotte, died Thursday, July 1, 2010. She was born December 2, 1907 in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Sarah (Gilbert) Kopp. She was employed by Olivet Community College where she worked in the gallery of the Kirk Center.

Sylvia is survived by her nieces, Marlene (Bill) Needham of San Diego, Calif., Joyce Braithwaite-Brickley of Traverse City; great nephews, Derek Needham, Kevin and Todd Braithwaite; darn near family, Gladys Rose, John Larry Rose, Mary Smith, Amy Lorraine and Sylvia Lynn Burkett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto “Buster” Brown in 1960; sisters, Inez Hughes and Florence Keckler; and John Lester Rose.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Maple Hill Cemetery with Reverend Lynn Wagner officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Bobbie J. Brownridge

Bobbie J. Brownridge, 62, of Olivet, died Saturday, June 19, 2010. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made by Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Thomas E. Bruch

Thomas E. Bruch, 64, of Charlotte, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 in Loveland, Colorado from heart complications while traveling to one of his favorite destinations. He was born October 13, 1945 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Matthew and Eleanor (Piekarz) Bruch. Tom served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a retired furniture manufacturer’s representative and served on the Michigan 1st Region draft board for the Selective Services. He was a man of strong Catholic faith, a devoted family man, and a loyal friend. Tom loved traveling around and visiting his friends, he had traveled to all 50 states and four continents. He loved long walks, taking his grandkids to the park and gathering with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Bruch of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Matt (Celena) Bruch of Charlotte; Steve (Brandi) Bruch of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren, Gage and Aubrey Bruch and sister, MaryAnn (Jerry) Shrader of Roseville, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Father Frances Mossholder officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Friday, September 17, 2010 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home with Rosary Service at 7 p.m. with Monsignor Steven Raica officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic School or the John Ritter Foundation.

Eli Buncich

Eli Buncich, 85, died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 17, 2010. He was born September 8, 1925 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Michael and Mildred (Sajatovic) Buncich.

Eli began working at Stimac’s Grocery as a teenager and in 1943 graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. He actively served during WWII in the U.S. Army from November 30, 1943 until April 10, 1946. After his service in the Army, he was a meat cutter at Percy Jones Hospital, owned and operated Pursley’s Market, was the manager of Leatherman’s Service Station, owned Eli’s Service Station and prior to his retirement in 1990 was the Warehouse Manager for Atlas Sales. Eli enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, playing golf and socializing with all his friends in Battle Creek. He was a member of the P.N.A. #2416, Elk Lodge # 131, American Legion Post #298, V.F.W. Post #565, Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge #533, and Teamsters Local #7 and was also an Eagle Scout.

On June 21, 1947 Eli was married to the former Wanda Madry who preceded him in death on April 16, 1995. He was also preceded by his parents and son-in-law: Denny Johnson. Surviving are six daughters: Gloria (Steve) Perry of Charlotte, Steph Skinner of Jackson, Vikki (Sam) Samson of Florida, Rose (William) McCurdy of Alabama, Fran Johnson of Battle Creek and Barb (Steve) Golden of Illinois; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and one sister: Ann (Albert) Bobrofsky of Battle Creek.

The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery and military honors presented by the U.S. Army. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Charlotte.

Ricky Burcham

Ricky Burcham, 50, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn., formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, May 27, 2010. He worked in heating and air conditioning. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.

Gladys I. Burns

Gladys Irene Burns, 91, of Charlotte, died September 8, 2010. She was born July 19, 1919 in Brookfield Township, Mich., the daughter of Henry and Ora (Numbers) Rochester. She spent her entire lifetime in the Charlotte area since moving here in 1949 with her late husband Henry. She was employed at Wilcox Gay Corporation, Century Mutual Insurance Company and retired from the Charlotte Insurance Agency in 1982 after 17 years of service. She was a Red Cross Volunteer and an Auxilian at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Helen Burns and Barbara Burns, special niece Judith (Jerry) Mohler, and special nephew Merle (Daisy) Rochester and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1996; brothers, Arlo and Maynard Rochester; sisters, Helen Rumrill and Flossie Umbarger. Funeral services were held Friday, September 10, 2010 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton County Medical Care Facility.

Dale W. Burt

Dale W. Burt, 50, of Charlotte, formerly of Ionia, died Friday, April 16, 2010.

Mr. Burt was born May 13, 1959 in Charlotte, the son of Charles and Leone (Stetler) Burt.

He is survived by his fiancé, Diane Gieseman of Charlotte; sons, Dale (Misty) Burt of Charlotte and Adam Burt of Vermontville; daughter, Faith (Joe) Barrette of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; father, Charles Burt; brother, Randy (Valerie) Burt; sisters, Sheila (Richard) Youngs and Marsha Hayes and brother Jeff (Linda) Burt.

Services may be held at a later date.

Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
