Ronald 'Q-Ball' Charles Williams
47, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Sunday, December 22, 2002. Mr. Williams was born March 14,1955, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Bernard and Elsie (Phillips) Williams. He worked at Oldsmobile and was a member of the UAW. He enjoyed drag racing and had formed Williams Racing Team. He is survived by his parents Bernard and Elsie Williams, sisters Terry (Terry Hansen) Wellman of Charlotte, Jo (Mike) Davis of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, brother Mark (Denise) Williams of Charlotte, 1 niece and 5 nephews, and special kids Chase and Chance. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet, Michigan. Visitation will be 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home. Clarence Max Garvie
81, of Bellevue, Michigan, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002. Mr. Garvie was born November 15, 1921, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Virgil and Arlene (Ling) Garvie. He retired from the assembly line work at Oldsmobile then was a truck driver for Maeward until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Doris (Casler), son Dale (Carol) Garvie of Charlotte, Michigan, daughter Cheri Cain of Olivet, Michigan, son Lynn (Carolyn) Garvie of Charlotte, son Scott Garvie of Bellevue, daughter Gail Alvarez of Florida, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, sister Pat (Art) Lumbert of Charlotte, brother Frank (Mary) Watson of Augusta, Michigan, and sister Wanita Watson of Athens, Michigan. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
Christina M. 'Birdie' Bird
89, of Potterville, Michigan, died Sunday morning, December 29, 2002. Mrs. Bird was born May 12, 1913, in Cadillac, Michigan, the daughter of William and Mary (Gregg) Jenkins. She was a member of the Potterville Church of the Nazarene, Williamston W.C.T.U. and a past member of the Holt Church of the Nazarene. She graduated from Williamston High School in 1930, and attended Wexford County Normal, and the practical nursing program at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. William Bird. Mrs. Bird is survived by her children, Deana (Julius) Moore of Potterville, Jeanne Parker of Williamston, Bethel (Michael) Rickle of Potterville, Richard W. (Edna) Wilson of Mabank, Texas, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Mark Slocum officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Michael Gerard Hennessey
46, of Charlotte, Michigan, died April 23, 2001. Mike was born October 4, 1954, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Carlyle (Cal) and Dorothy (Jonas) Hennessey. He was owner of Pine Tree Cabinets. He is survived by sisters Torre Bolus and family Anne-Marie Bolus, great niece Dorothy Ava-Marie "Dottie" and great nephew James "Cal" Carlyle; Loraine (Gary) Shaver and family, Jason, Ben and Matt Shaver; brother Jerry (Annette) Hennessey and family, Corey David Kirby, Stephanie A. Hennessey, of Charlotte, sister Lois (Roger) Horchner of Reed City, sister-in-law Judy Huebener of Sterling Hts. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Richard Hennessey. Also surviving is fiancee Nancy L Bennett and family, Kally (Ron) Stoye, Lorissa Newman, Sam Stoye; Debbie (Mike) Brehm, Josh & Sara; Don Bennett. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday (11:00 a.m.) at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte with Fr. Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. David Ames officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, Michigan. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. Paul Jean Dunning
53, of Pentwater, MI., formerly of Charlotte, died May 1, 2001. Mr. Dunning was born March 6, 1948 in Charlotte, MI., the son of Edward VanBergan and Carla (Farrier) Dunning. He was a Cartographer for the Michigan Department of Transportation. He and his wife Donna owned and operated Schatze Manor Bed and Breakfast before moving to Pentwater. He was an avid woodcarver - craftsman and artist. He was a member of the Charlotte Optimist Club and on the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna Jean (LeClair); son Aaron Wesley (Christine) Dunning of Fruitport, MI., and daughter Aimee HeeBoon Dunning of Lansing, MI., sister Nanette (Gerald) Podany of Charlotte and his parents. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI., with Rev. Dr. Charles Moore and Bill Courter officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Optimists Club.
Susie Naoma Gaw
92, of Charlotte, MI, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001. Mrs. Gaw was born September 1, 1908 in Lamar, CO, the daughter of Delbert & Effie (Sowers) Mourning. She was a sales clerk at J.C. Penney in Lansing for many years. She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas, December 20, 1994, after 49 years of marriage. Gertrude Pauline Landers
age 87 of Charlotte died May 2, 2001 at Houghton Lake, Michigan. Mrs Landers was born in Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Howard & Cathrine (Lightner) Clever. She was employed at Hayes Green Beach for 10 years. She is survived by 3 daughters Kay Mishler of Houghton Lake, Roxanne (Jim) Albaugh of Mulliken, Sally (Allen) Cantine of Charlotte, brother-in-law Gary Landers of Florida, 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Linda in 1995, husband Ben 1977, son Howard 1975, son Jerry 1935. The family will receive visitors at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 5, 2001. Funeral services will be Saturday. Ruth M. (Lett) Royston
77 of Vermontville, Michigan, died Friday, May 4, 2001. Mrs. Royston was born March 7, 1924 in Potterville, Michigan, the daughter of Ralph E. and Mary (Shaver) Lett. She was a farm wife and had been married to Rex for 57 years. She is survived by her husband, sons Rex Duane, Jr. (Kay) of Vermontville, Gary (Kieran) of Lansing, daughters Nancy (Dennis) Carpenter of Vermontville, Sue (Mark) Fawley of Nashville, brother Allen (Lois) Lett of Lansing, sister Laura Herde of Florida, sister-in-law Joan Lett of Potterville, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Randy Royston officiating. Interment will be in Hillside-Kalamo Cemetery. Ralph James Sullivan
83, of Charlotte, Michigan, died May 5, 2001. Mr. Sullivan was born February 21, 1918, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of James Sullivan and Rose Smith Sullivan. He is survived by sons Donald (Molly) of Houston, Tx, and Larry (Kathryn) of Toledo, OH; daughter-in-law Myrna of Charlotte, MI; sister Gertrude; 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Eldora in 1996 and son Philip in 1994. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Roger Lee Smith
70, of Charlotte, died Saturday, May 12, 2001. Mr. Smith was born in Grand Ledge, Michigan, the son of Cloman and Hazel (Walters) Smith. Mr. Smith was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, a member of American Legion Post 42, the Eaton County Buck Club, and the Eagles Aerie, and had been a volunteer fireman in Charlotte. He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and is survived by his wife LaRae (Beck), sons Greg (LeeAnn) Smith of Charlotte, Philip Long of Lansing, daughters Valerie Campbell of Battle Creek, and Shelli Long of Eaton Rapids, 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Monday 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Childrens Diabetes Association.
Glenn Ostrander
89 of Eaton Rapids and Charlotte, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001. Mr. Ostrander was born March 16, 1912, in Hillman, Michigan, the son of Lewis W. and Julia Belle (Kirk) Ostrander. As a young man he was deeply influenced by the life and teachings of Alfred Lawson, an engineer and humanitarian who originated the Direct Credit Society, then later the Humanity Benefactor Foundation, The University of Lawsonnomy and the Lawsonian Religion. Glenn spent his entire life living out the motto: "Serve humanity; take nothing from anybody; give everything to everybody; harm nobody." Mr. Ostrander was a building engineer for Galewood School for 10 years and a volunteer for 17 years with handicapped children and the Special Riding Program in Eaton County. Glen was also active as a volunteer in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Eaton County 4-H Programs, RSVP Volunteer, and Boy Scouts of America He is survived by grand-nephew Tony Palmer and grand-niece Allison Palmer, and special friends Melvin and Margaret Bisel. He was preceded in death by sisters Olive Ostrander and Erma K. Palmer, and brother Jay Ostrander. Visitation will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at Pray Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. with Dr. Rev. Carol Spangenberg officiating. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Eaton Special Riding Volunteer Association.
Elizabeth "Betty" Bodo
66, of Nashville, Michigan, died Friday, May 25, 2001. Betty was born May 6, 1935, in Vermontville, Michigan, the daughter of Gaylord and Nell (Hummel) Harvey. She worked for Eaton Co. Action Center and Capital Area Community Center in Lansing. She attended Charlotte Assembly of God and enjoyed bingo, bowling, fishing and horses. She is survived by daughters Tina Gable of Charlotte, Laura Harvey of Charlotte, Nell Ann Harvey of Potterville, sons Robert Bodo of Nashville and Shannon Bodo of Charlotte, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, her mother, sisters Ilene Collier of Nashville, Donna (Ray) Olmstead of Nashville, Opal (Wes) Gillons of Hastings, brothers Robert Harvey of Nashville and Joe (Jennie) Harvey of Vermontville. Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001 at the American Legion Post #42, 1000 W. Lawrence Avenue in Charlotte with Rev. Mark Woodbury and Chuck Jenson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice House.
Richard "Teach" W. Trethewey
54, of Charlotte, Michigan died at his residence Monday, May 28, 2001. Mr. Trethewey was born November 19, 1946, in Houghton Michigan to his parents Wilton and Shirley (Chapman) Trethewey. Mr. Trethewey was a teacher in the Lansing Public School System for several years. Richard held a lifetime membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3552, and was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan. He is survived by his wife Diane; son, Richard of Charlotte; daughter Christie (Martin) Hewitt-Trethewey of Charlotte, with one grandchild due in November. He is also survived by his brother James (Jan) Trethewey of Marquette, a special nephew Justin, and several Aunts and Uncles. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Thursday May 31 at the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. An Eagle Memorial service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Pray Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday June 1 with Paul Franklin and Charles Jenson officiating. John "Jack" Edwin Bandfield
age 76, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001. He was born August 14, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of John Wesley and Mary (Battles) Bandfield. He was the Manager of Eaton Theatre for 30 years and a school bus driver for 13 years. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carole; and 2 stepsons Steve and Don Shults; 4 children, Corien (Charles) White, Jackie (Alan) Sinclair, Linda Bandfield, and Mary Bandfield; and 9 grandchildren, brothers, Robert Bandfield of Howell, Sam Bandfield of Six Lakes, William Bandfield of Vanderbuilt, and a sister Joane from Florida. He was preceded in death by brother Gerald Bandfield. He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in both the Navy and Marine Corps. Visitation will be Thursday, May 31, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home with Father Dennis R. Spitzley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
