Chad Phillip Dowell

Age 36 died unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Born December 22, 1973 in Charlotte the son of Jeffrey and Onalee Kendall. Chad was employed by Dart Industries in Mason as a Data Programmer. Chad had a very close relationship with his Lord and at one time thought of pursuing the ministry. He always thought of others and was very generous. He had a great love for Mountain Dew and Reidy’s breadsticks. Preceded in death by an infant sister, Raelynn Parish.

Surviving are his wife, Annebell; parents, Jeffrey and Onalee Kendall; brothers, Tommy Perry and Robbie Perry; sister, Dannielle Parish; grandmother, Myrna Kendall; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Randy Royston, officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 noon until service time at 1:00 p.m.

Richard C. Dowling

Richard C. Dowling, 60, of Springport, died Monday, December 6, 2010. He was born August 7, 1950 in Wilmington, Del., the son of Thoma and Evelyn (Cornwell) Dowling. He was the owner and operator of Executive Job Search specialist.

He is survived by wife, Cheryl; daughters, Karin Dowling and Christine Dowling; son, Thomas Cornell Dowling; sisters, Barabara (Jim) Britt of Pennsylvania and Martha Hudak of Delaware; in-laws, Ruth and Dean Harris of Linden, Mich. and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice.

Funeral services were held Thursday Dec. 9 at the First congregational Church in Charlotte with Reverend Phil Hobson officiating. Interment will be in Dodgeville, Wisc.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The First Congregational Church, Eaton Community Hospice, or Charlotte Rotary Club Project.

Eugene F. Dudley

Eugene (Gene) Francis Dudley, 82, died October 9, 2010, in Sarasota, Fla. after a long battle with cancer. gene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maryellen Koch, his daughters, Thais Mishler (Dennis), Laurie Dudley (Peter Cronin), Julie Wilson (Denny) and a son Doug (Mary Lou); eight grandchildren, Joel Mishler (Judy), Mara Braegelmann (Jason, Michael Mishler, Kaitlyn Curtin (Tommy), Sean Dudley (Margaret), Brendan Dudley, Jake Wilson and Jenna Wilson and nine great grandchildren and a sister, Eileen Horn of Fremont, Ohio.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, Clarence and Corrine Dudley, sisters Mary Louise and Irma (Haaser) and brother, Leonard “Mose” Dudley. He and Maryellen spent many years caring for her parents, Virgie and Paul Roberts.

Prior to living in Sarasota, Gene was a longtime resident of Charlotte and the owner/operator of Maeward Inc. in Olivet.

Gene enjoyed great success as a key member of the 1944-45 Bellevue, Ohio state champion high school basketball team. That group of “Whiz Kids” finished a perfect 25-0. Dudley was named All-Ohio for his efforts. He went on to star at Bowling Green State University where he went to the NIT tournament twice and still holds the BGSU school record for the most games played. He was inducted in to the Bellevue High School Hall of Fame in 2005.

Gene served in the Army during WWII but was not deployed overseas. While in the service he played quarterback, basketball and baseball for the 9th Infantry Regiment.

Gene was an avid golfer, having spent many years as a member of the Charlotte Country Club and continued to play regularly in Florida. He “shot his age” earlier this year and played as recently as August.

Gene was appreciated by his family and friends as a kind, fun and generous gentleman. He will be dearly remembered and missed by all.

Visitation will be held at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 3 to 6 p.m. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2010 at Gene’s home parish for 28 years, St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte with Reverend Father Douglas Osborn. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Hill Cemetery.

Janet Durst

Janet Durst, born June 13, 1920, of Jackson, went home to be with her Lord, Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at the age of 89, under the care of her care giver Laura Ford and the staff at the Hospice House. Janet battled cancer for the past few years.

She will be remembered in the Jackson area as editor for 32 years at the Jackson Citizen Patriot.

Her career began at age 16 in teaching at the Ingham County Normal in Mason. After leaving the field of education, five years later was employed at Abrams Instrument Corporation, then bookkeeping at Michigan National Bank. After receiving her degree in 1948 from Michigan State University, she worked at the Ingham County News in Mason. In 1958 she and Donald Durst were married on Oct. 11. With her marriage to Donald she inherited her stepson, Ron (Joyce Apple) Durst. She now has three grandchildren; and great grandchild; and one great-great grandchild. Janet was a long time member of the Aurelius Baptist Church in Mason. She will be deeply missed by her multitude of family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, John W. and Esther Herman, and her brother, John Herman.

She is survived by her sister, Margret (Hemans) Glazko of Ann Arbor, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Feb. 13 at Wetherby Funeral Home with the Rev. Milan Maybee officiating.

Pamela Jean Dziewiatkowski

Pamela Jean Dziewiatkowski of Portland, formerly of Eaton Rapids passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 at the age of 65. Born July 4, 1945 to Otto and Clara Cusisk in Lansing, Michigan. Pam was a cosmetology teacher for Eastern, Everett and Hill High Schools in Lansing. While working she was a member of various clubs and organizations in the Lansing School District as well as in the Sebring and Avon Park area in Florida. Preceding her in death were her parents and son, John.

Surviving are her husband, John Dziewiatkowski; sons, Jason (Shannan) Dziewiatkowski, Joshua (Racheal) Dziewiatkowski; daughter, Katina (Oscar Mansilla) Dziewiatkowski; brother, Michael (Susie) O’Shea; sister, Susan Norris; 6 grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at St. Peter Catholic Church. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes at 2285 Breton Industrial Park Dr. SE Grand Rapids, MI 49508 in Pam’s name.

Dale J. Eaton

Dale J. Eaton, 75, of Bellevue, died May 10, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System.

He was born February 26, 1935, the son of Louis and Lucille (Roscoe) Eaton in Brookfield, Michigan.

Dale graduated from Bellevue High School and then joined the United States Air Force with active duty from March 1952 until March 1956. He was an electronic technician with Allman TV from 1960-1985. He then drove truck with Behnke Trucking for 13 years retiring in 1999.

Dale was married to Bernice A. “Bobbi” Eaton in 1955. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2010. He is survived by two sons, Rand (Jean) Eaton of Bellevue and Dale (Jody) Eaton of Battle Creek; two grandsons, Wes and Tim; brothers, Daniel L. Eaton of Battle Creek and Lawrence Eaton of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.

Dale attended Bellevue United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, being outside with nature, and feeding all wildlife. Most of all, he loved his family.

A memorial service for Dale and Bobbi Eaton will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Bellevue United Methodist Church with Pastor Virginia Heller officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Good Samarian Hospice Residence.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Harold C. Eaton

Harold C. Eaton, age 76, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at his residence with family by his bedside. Born January 23, 1934 in Vicksburg the son of Jay and Leona (Thomas) Eaton.

Harold was the 7th child of 17 children in the Eaton family. He was a lifelong Carpenter and for many years was self employed. A member of the Carpenters Union #1004 out of Jackson, MI. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Phyliss; son, Terry (Janie) Eaton of Eaton Rapids; daughter, Debbie Eaton of Eaton Rapids; grandson, Mark (Lorie) Eaton of Dimondale; 4 great grandchildren, Austin, Sienna, Brennan and Carson Eaton; his faithful companion Bitsy and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Monday, November 29th at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. For those desiring memorial gifts may be made to the Great Lakes Hospice at 865 S. Cedar St. Mason, MI 48854 in memory of Harold Eaton.

Thomas J. (Butch) Ebright

Thomas J. (Butch) Ebright, age 75, of Springport, MI, joined his wife of 50 some years Ruth Ann Ebright (Barratt) in heaven on October 71, 2010. Tom loved the outdoors, farming, gardening, fishing and sports, wrestling, basketball, football (Go MSU). He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Ruth, Ann Ebright, both parents and two sisters, Eleanor Harmon of Springport and Lorraine Miller of Holt.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Penny Warner, Timothy Ebright and Amy Moore of Springport. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He is survived by sisters Ronnie Goodnoe, Carrie Nelson and Delores Nickles.

A celebration of life will be held at Springport VFW Hall at 2:00 p.m. on November 6, 2010. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to VFW in care of family to help with expenses occurred. Special thanks to Jackson Allegiance Hospice for all their kindness and patience.
