Born May 7, 1910, and died August 25, 2001 in St. Johns, MI. She lived most of her life in Jackson, MI, and the past few years she has lived in Lansing. She was an avid painter and belonged to the Jackson City Art Club. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Shawn Bovee, 2 sisters, Elizabeth Griffith and Harriett Radenbaugh; 2 brothers, Richard and Robert Mandeville; 2 sisters-in-law, Florence and Louise Mandeville; 2 brothers-in-law, Chalmers Torrey and Irvin Austin, and her parents, Jude and Ida Mandeville. Her daughter, Jocelyn G. (Norval) Bovee of Eagle, MI survives her, and 2 grandsons, Scott N. Bovee of Chattanooga, TN, and Sethe N. (Tina) Bovee of Middleville, MI; 2 great grandsons, Eric S. Bovee of Chattanooga, TN, and Brandon S. Bovee of 1000 Palms, CA; 2 great grand daughters, Lisa Jocelyn Bovee of Chattanooga, TN and Samantha Shawn Bovee of 1000 Palms, CA, and 2 sisters, Ruth Torrey and Josephine Austin. Virginia was cremated, and there will be no memorial service, as per her wishes. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Virginia G. Larrabee. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Funk, Lawrence Peter
Holt, MI

Age 73, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2003 at his home. He was born to Ella and Peter Funk on September 7, 1929 in Chicago. He is survived by his loving wife, Madeleine; sons, Martin (Sheila), Mark (Laurie), David, Joseph and Matt; step-daughter, Jennifer Lester; 4 grandchildren; brothers, William (Jean), Thomas (Roseann); special sisters-in-law, Monica (the late Chuck) Brandenburg, Marsha (Bradley) Albrecht; special mother-in-law, Elaine Dunne; several nieces and nephews and many good friends. Funeral services will be offered at Noon on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with the Rev. Stephen F. Ezop officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 700 W. Ash St., Mason, MI 48854.

Berryhill, Linda Diane

Lansing, MI

Age 50, passed away on December 30, 2001. She was born on March 4, 1951 in Lansing, MI. Surviving are: her husband, Robert; 3 children; Timothy, Alicia, and Bradley; 4 grandchildren, Timothy Joseph and Cami Berryhill, Johnathon Suhr and Kiauna Berryhill; father, Emil (Jan) Peplau; 3 brothers; 1 sister and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Beulah. A funeral service was held at 2:30 Thursday, January 3, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Hurd Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 12:30 until service time on Thursday.

Finn Jr., Thomas P.

Holt, MI

Heaven’s gate opened wide – Jesus said, “With me abide.” Thomas P. Finn Jr., 51, of Holt, left this earthly plain for his heavenly realm on Monday, August 9, 2004 as a result of an automobile accident in Clayton Township, Sterling. Tom was born February 23, 1953 in Toledo, OH. He was employed by GMSPO for 27 years in Swartz Creek and was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Joan Moll of Sterling. Surviving are his wife, Janice K. Finn of Holt; children: Shawn Finn of Kalamazoo and Jennifer Finn of Holt; parents Thomas P. Sr. & Eleanor Finn of Lansing; brother Gary (Sue) Finn of Lansing; step-children: Shelley (Charles) Hogle of Sharps Chapel, TN, Daneen (Jeff) Shumaker of Charlotte, Brian (Christine) Atwell of Clarksville and Philip (Jennifer) Atwell of Buffalo, WY; 10 grandchildren: Amanda, Austin, Megan, Tara, Cameron, Travis, Kaleb, Gabriel, Kanon and Tatum; father-in-law August Moll of Sterling; brother-in-law Kenneth (Teresa) Moll of Sterling, sisters-in-law Dolores (Eugene) Senske of Twining, Darlene (Martin) Ornatowski of Ridgeland, SC and Cathy (Dwight) Perkins of Sterling and several dear nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 5740 W. Holt Rd., Holt, MI 48842 with the Reverend John A. Schinkel officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, August 13, 2004 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church. Heaven is a happier place today because of Tom’s smile and laughter. Funeral arrangements by Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

Nash, Linda J., M.D.

Haslett, MI

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, a great friend to many died on August 10 at home with her family and friends. Dr. Nash was born September 8, 1941 in Springdale, Arkansas, the only child of Lawrence and Margaret Story. Linda attended a one-room schoolhouse, walking to school through the Arkansas mountains. After high school she attended John Brown University, married Tom Nash, and had two children, Robert and Suzanne. Linda loved languages, studying Latin, she was fluent in Japanese from living in Okinawa, Japan, later learning French, and English, completing the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle in ink. Linda returned to the USA and joined the innovative administrative staff of developing the then new College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University. She attended medical school at MSU, graduating in 1978. Later that year she married Dan Williams and started an Internal Medicine Residency at Baylor in Houston, Texas. Linda completed her residency in Lansing. Linda and Dan lived, raised children, and practiced medicine together in the Lansing community for 22 years. Linda was known for her good sense of humor, love for and interest in the patients as people, and logical problem solving. She will be missed by her medical practice partners V. McDonald, MD and S. Noon, DO, patients, nurses, doctors and the staff of Lansing's hospitals. She served until her death as Medical Director at Ingham Regional Medical Center for several years. Last year, she was nationally honored for performance excellence by the ABQAURP. She will be especially missed by her surviving family and special family friends: mother, Margaret Story; husband, Dan Williams; children, Robert Nash, Suzanne Rice, Kelly Stevenson, and Chris Williams; their spouses, Barbara Hight, Dale Rice, Johnny Stevenson; grandchildren, Scott and Meredith Rice and Morgan and Austin Stevenson; special family friends, the Gradys, and the Mercado/McDonald family. She touched many other lives in profound ways. Funeral services were held at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev Myra Sparks officiating on Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at 12:00 p.m. The family received friends on Monday from 6-9 PM. Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Linda Nash, MD, ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease) Research Foundation, 6389 East Reynolds, Haslett, MI 48840 (federal certification submitted).

Arreguin, Larry

Grand Rapids, MI

Age 80, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2004 in Detroit. He was born on August 15, 1923 in Somerville, TX to Jose M. Arreguin and Guadalupe Quienteri Arreguin. Mr. Arreguin was a Veteran of World War II, and a life member of VFW Post 701 and Post 6132, a past Commander of American Legion Post 183 and was the first Mexican American to become Chef de Gare in the state of Michigan for Voiture 946 of the Forty and Eight. He organized the first Breakfast Clubs for Post 6132 and the Voiture 946 that raised funds for local charities and nursing scholarships. He was an avid baseball fan and helped organize the Mexican baseball League while playing for the Lansing Cardinals. Mr. Arreguin had retired from Michigan National Bank’s Operation Center in 1982. Mr. Arreguin is survived by 9 daughters, Delores Hickman, Marylou Carlson, Janie Greer, Tillie Bowling, all of Missouri, Frances Marti of Lansing, MI; Gloria Arreguin of Wixom, MI; Alice Wray of Lansing, MI, Sophie Arreguin-Campos of Wixom, MI; and Lupe Bell of Louisville, KY; son, Larry C. Arreguin of Detroit, 30 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; siblings: Benita Guillen, Somerville, TX, Augustine Arreguin, Lansing, MI, and Sofie A. Stover, Lansing, MI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine in 2000, his daughter, Annette Arreguin in 1977 and brother Joe Arreguin, in 1983. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2004 at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, 102 W. Randolph with the Rev. Michael Williams as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. 2-4 and 6-8p.m. Thursday with the rosary service at 7:00pm Thursday. For those who wish, memorials may be given to Renewing Redeemer Campaign, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church 1721 Junction, Detroit, MI 48209, (313) 842-3450, in memory of Mr. Arreguin.

Patson, Frances A.

Lansing, MI

God looked around his garden and found an empty space. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. He knew that you were weary and in pain. He closed your eyes and whispered “Peace by thine”. Frances left us for God’s Garden on August 5, 2003 at the age of 89. For the last 3 years she resided at Ingham County Medical Care Facility, where she was involved in many activities and had developed many friendships. The family wishes to thank the facility and staff for their wonderful care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, in 1965. Surviving her are: daughters, Patricia (Charles) Chapko and Angela (Howard) Clevenger; grandchildren, Lisa (Rich) Villarreal, Michael (Lisa) Clevenger, Christine (Dwight) Boake, Ron (Kelley) Clevenger, Charles (Carrie) Chapko, Jr., and David (Amy) Clevenger; and 11 great grandchildren. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar Street, with the Rev. Fr. Alan J. Wakefield as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham County Medical Care Foundation.

Funk, Lisa A.

Lansing

Age 46, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 3, 2004. She was born August 21, 1957 in Macomb, Illinois the daughter of Bruce and Phyllis (Reichle) Averill. She worked for the State of Michigan Department of Transportation for over 24 years and most recently was a supervisor within the UPTRAN program. Lisa was very involved as a volunteer with the P.T.A. at her children’s school and was a Jazzercise instructor for 18 years. Surviving are her husband of 18 years, Stephen Funk; their 2 children, Kelly Michelle Funk and Jason Stephen Funk; her mother, Phyllis Averill; her brother, Mark (Deb) Averill; her sister, Amy (Mike) Lafferty along with 12 nieces and nephews and a host of other extended family members. Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Averill. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Jeff Robideau at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at The Church of The Resurrection, 1531 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Tuesday, July 6th from 2-8 p.m. where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The body will also lie-in-state on Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. Lisa’s body will be entombed on Thursday, July 8th at Oakwood Mausoleum in Saginaw, MI. Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in loving memory of Lisa A. Funk, to Ele’s Place or the Lisa A. Funk Memorial Fund.
