Ellison, Alice L.

East Lansing, MI

Age 97, passed away on March 11, 2003. She was born on May 25, 1905 in Lansing and lived all of her life in the Lansing area, the daughter of Robert W. and Marian (Seeley) Langenbacher. Alice was very active longtime member of Plymouth Congregational Church and a member of the Mayflower Circle at the church. She was preceded in death by: husband, Hubert Ellison in 1995; son, Robert J. Ellison in 1989; and grandson, William R. Bailey in 1999. Surviving are: daughter, Marilyn (Richard) Bailey of East Lansing; grandsons, James (Kelly) Bailey of Lansing and Thomas Bailey of East Lansing; 4 great grandchildren, Adam of California, Alayna and Dalton of Lansing and William of East Lansing; sisters-in-law, Ruth Esty of Lansing and Kathleen Loomis of Texas; special niece, Carol Garlinghouse; and many other nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lansing. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Schuon, Mary E.

Lansing, MI

Age 82, passed away on April 5, 2002. She was born in Dresden, TN on June 25, 1919. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church; a volunteer for the Sparrow Hospital Service Auxiliary since 1959 and active in Division 4 at Sparrow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto J. (Jack) Schuon in 1999. She was the mother of John (Janis) Schuon of Ann Arbor, Rick (Bonnie) Schuon of Grand Ledge, and David Schuon of East Hampton, NY; grandmother of Michael and Cora Schuon, Kristy (Ryan) Campbell, Chris, Brian, and Kevin Schuon; great grandmother to Tori Campbell; sister of Rachel (Stephen) Kras of Heath, TX; aunt to Jacklyn Kras of New Zeeland, Colleen (Ron) Hanna of Heath, TX; great aunt to Lindsey and Paige Hanna. Her extended family included, Cathy and David Homan and their children, Robert and Steven; Kathy Golden, Anna and April Ray. Memorial services were held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Glenn Ray, Jr. of Maranatha Baptist Church officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2002. Memorial contributions may be made to Maranatha Baptist Church or to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

Moray, Clayton A.

Lansing, MI

Age 84 passed away on March 30, 2003. He was born on July 15, 1918 in Lansing, the son of Frederick and Cora (Conklin) Moray. Clay was a “people person”, he enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, was an avid photographer, enjoyed fishing and was a retired World Book sales representative with 36 years of service. Two brothers, George and Erwin preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Norma Moray; daughter, Sue Elwood of Ohio; son David (Debra) Moray of Lansing; grandchildren, Merideth (Gary) Mann, Joseph Thomas, Sara Thomas, Michael (Susan) Austin, Andy (Missy) Austin; great grandchildren, Ashley, Spencer, Kaitlin, Chelsea, Candace, and Brittany; brother, Adelbert (Wilma) Moray of Lansing; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Moray of Gull Lake. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Estes- Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. M. E. Walworth Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Delta Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Fenn (Stange), Vicki Jo

Holt, MI

Age 58, went to be with her Lord on July 22, 2002 after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer. She was born on August 16, 1943 in Lansing. Vicki was instrumental in the lives of all of the children in her daycare, who she cared for as her own for 28 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Stange. Surviving are: her husband of 37 years, Terry Fenn; children, Michael, Michelle and Mark (Kelly) Fenn; grandsons, Chad and Cody; granddaughter, Hailey, who helped inspire and give her strength to fight her illness; mother, Irene Stange; sister, Joy Walton; and many nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Sparrow Hospice in memory of Vicki. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

Laipply, Alvin R.

Sun City, AZ

(Formerly of Mason, MI)

Age 80, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2002. He was born on May 11, 1921 to William and Bertha (Seibert) Laipply in Brokensword, Ohio. He married Stella Seamour in November of 1946, she preceded him in death in 1991. Alvin served his country in WWII and retired from Oldsmobile after 30 years. He was also preceded in death by his son, Larry Roger Laipply. Alvin is survived by his wife of 9 years, Nell (Buntin) Laipply; daughter, Sue (John) King; grandchildren, Rocky (Darla) King, Craig (Jodi) King, Amy (Jason) Garnsay, Joshua (Beorn) and Aaron Laipply, both of Colorado; great grandchildren, Bailey and Blake; daughter-in-law, Debra Cluley; step-children, Kevin (Sheryl) Buntin and Robin Buntin; step-granddaughter, Stefanie; brother, Wilbur (Irene) Laipply; sisters, Esther Brush and Mildred Donnersbach; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at 11:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with the Rev. R.W. Carpenter, Sr. of Eaton Rapids Assembly of God Church officiating. The family received friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Abendroth, Linda Lee

Harrison, MI

Age 50, passed away December 15, 2002. She was born in Detroit March 20, 1952 and had lived in Lansing from 1972 until moving to Harrison in 1997. She was formerly employed with Catholic Social Services. She enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband David. Also surviving are: 2 Step-Children, Jodi (Deryck) Jones of Eaton Rapids and Joel (Dorinda) Abendroth of Fremont; 6 Grandchildren; Nikole, Tanner and Gabrielle Jones; Anne, Claire, and Emma Abendroth; 3 Brothers, Richard McCullough of Holt, Russell McCullough of Higgins Lake, Daniel (June) McCullough of Bath; 1 Sister, Diane (Chris) Falkner; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Fr. John A. Byers of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation, 211 North 12th Street, Lincoln, NE 68508.

Robbins, Clossen

Lansing, MI

Age 86, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2002. Born in Lansing on February 13, 1916 to Ernest and Lettie (Tanner) Robbins. Clossen served his country in the Army for 5 years during the W.W. II era. He was retired from General Motors after 32 years. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth; son, Timothy (Suzanne) Robbins; daughter; Ann (Michael) Papais; grandchildren, Tim and Tom Robbins and Stephanie, Matthew and Vincent Papais; brother-in-law, George (Bonnie) Gruber. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Virginia, Ken and Eleanor. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow in Palmyra Cemetery, Palmyra, MI. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Hospice of Lansing, Inc. in memory of Clossen.

Laferriere, Orel R. “Dick”

Lansing, MI

Age 70, U.S. Army Veteran, passed away on January 4, 2004. He was born on June 1, 1933 in Eagle Lake, Maine, the son of Leon and Eva (Paradis) Laferriere. Dick drove a truck for Morrison Industrial Equipment for many years and was the former owner and operator of Frenchie’s Bar. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #288, was an avid golfer, bowler and loved to play cribbage. Dick and his wife, Sue, were also foster parents in Ingham county for almost 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Sue in 2003, and 3 brothers. Surviving are: 14 children, Connie (Terry) Barnhart, Bonnie Bradshaw, Gail (Roger Bacon) Laferriere, LeAnn (Lance) Morey, Jimmie Symons, Carol (Jon) Blasius, Bruce (Judy) Laferriere, Vicky Symons, Janine (Joel) Retzloff, Penny Fisher, Greg Laferriere, Mark (Diana) Laferriere, Troy Laferriere, and Kayla Laferriere; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 5 brothers, Reginald (Bea) Laferriere, Patrick Lagerriere, Roy (Barbara) Laferriere, James (Betty) Laferriere and Joel (Sandy) Laferriere; 2 sisters, Julie (Harry) Steathoples and Annette Jackson; many nieces and nephews; and several other extended family members. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2004 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Orel “Dick” Laferriere.
