Mattie was born in Austell, Georgia to Vansver Mathis and Pearl Ellis on December 23, 1931. She departed this earthly home March 2, 2003. She left behind loved ones; 1 daughter, Elaine Mathis; 1 sister, Sarah Clonts; 5 grandchildren, Micheal, Qiana, Eric, Ashley and Summer; 5 great grandchildren, Lisa, Aushia, Sierra, Antonio and Mikey also friends and loved ones. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church, 500 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. with Rev. Melvin T. Jones officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. We love you “Mat”, you will be missed. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Morley, Agnes M.

Lansing, MI

Age 94, passed away at her home on March 12, 2003. She was born on September 6, 1908 in Wolverine, MI, the daughter of Charles and Edith (Culver) Keck. She had been employed with the State of Michigan, Department of Licensing and Regulation for 11 years, retiring in 1975. Agnes loved being with family and friends, playing cards, bingo and cheering everyone’s endeavors. She cooked wonderful family dinners. Her family loved her energy, company and sense of humor. Agnes was recognized as an active volunteer in her church, Advent House, Meals on Wheels and RSVP. She traveled extensively with friends and the Waverly 39er’s. She served as Election Board Chairperson in the Willow Street School for several years. She was also a member of the Morley S. Oates Post #701 V.F.W., Women’s Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Frederic B. Morley; her parents; 3 brothers; and 1 sister. Surviving are: daughter and caregiver, Karla (Tim) Reilly of Lansing; 3 sons, Keith (Betty) Morley of Lansing, Jack (Nancy) Morley of Lansing and Robert Morley (fiancée, Rita Arnesen) of Eaton Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; brother, Karl Keck of Indian River; 2 sisters-in-law, Edith Keck of Kohler, WI and Phyllis Keck of Petoskey; and special friend, Edna Neal. Grandma would like to express gratitude for the loving care given to her by her granddaughter, Dawn Morley. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Casey Wells of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in memory of Agnes Morley.

Wedley, Margaret Rose

Lansing, MI

Age 89, passed away on Friday, December 07, 2001. She was born on September 13, 1912, the daughter of Michael and Sara (Krestel) Lintz, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, where she met and married her husband Fredrick Wedley in 1931, they moved to Lansing in 1947 and she has resided here since. Fredrick preceded her in death in 1971. Margaret was employed by Arbaughs, Knapp and Hudson where she worked as a pricing clerk and was the church organist for Calvary United Methodist Church for over 20 years. She will be missed and fondly remembered by: sons, Richard (Peggy) and Edward (Carrie) Wedley; daughters, Susan Wedley and Lois Feguer; grandchildren, Debra, David, Dan and Doug Wedley and Diana McKay, Edward Jr., and Mark Wedley and Tamara Skalba, Tim Wedley, and Alex and Abby Feguer; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; sister, Elsa Strehler; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Pamela Mathieu of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice of Grand Rapids or to Heartland Health Care of Ionia.

Burd, Thelma F.

Holt, MI

Age 82, passed away on September 22, 2002. she was born on May 10, 1920 in Lansing. Mrs. Burd was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Burd in 1996. Surviving are: 3 children, Andrea (Keith) Dick of Lansing, Terry (Monika) Burd of Potterville, and Eugene (Chari) Burd of Lake Odessa; 8 grandchildren, Lisa Cook, Troy Dick, Stephen Dick, Derek (Anne) Burd, Adam Burd, Beate (Mike) Edwards, Kelly Burd and J.T. Burd and 9 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at The Pines Healthcare Center for the care and comfort they gave to Mrs. Burd during the last 6 years. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with interment in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Thelma Burd.

Burden, Phyllis J. (Roe)

Fairfax, Virginia

Formerly of Bay City, MI

Age 75, passed away in Fairfax, VA on June 6, 2004. She was born in Owosso, MI on Jan. 19, 1929. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Fairfax. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Burden in 1984. Surviving are: Son, Kern (Sandy) Burden of West Branch; 2 Daughters, Debra (Richard) Horen of Peachtree City, GA, and Kate (John) Walsh of Fairfax, VA; 6 Grandchildren and 1 Great Granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, June 10, 2004 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing with Fr. William J. Koenigsknecht, Pastor of the Church of the Resurrection officiating. Interment will follow at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tower Nine Nursing Education Fund; 3300 Gallows Road; Falls Church, VA 22042.

Johnson, Lorraine Rachel

Lansing, MI

Age 64, passed away on December 18, 2002. She was born on May 5, 1938 to Beatrice Brewer, of Atlanta, GA and George Johnson, of Cleveland, OH, in Lansing. She had been a member of Impact Ministries Church until her illness did not allow her to attend. She is survived by: daughters, Deborah Johnson; sons, Gordy Johnson and Clifford Johnson; grandchildren, Danielle Moore, Shyana and Shaniqua Johnson; sisters, Romaine Brewer and Suray Crutchers, of CA; brothers, A.J. Ashanti of CA and Charles Brewer of GA. She was preceded in death by: daughter, Sherri Marie Johnson. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Todd of Impact Ministries officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Densmore, Elsie M.

Lansing, MI

Age 88, passed away on July 15, 2002. She was born on June 15, 1914 in Lansing, the daughter of Frank and Pauline (Golnek) Mielke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell. Surviving are: step-son, Russell Densmore; step-grandchildren, Paul and Jean Marie Densmore; nephews, Fred (Monica) Sanders, David (Helen) Sanders and Henry Sanders; niece, Alberta (Al) Arens. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2002, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with The Rev. Paul J. Lindloff of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ingham Hospice in memory of Elsie Densmore.

Jackson, Clara (Tibbits)

Holt, MI

Age 88, passed away on April 25, 2002 after a short illness. She was born on April 6, 1914 to John and Mabel (Simington) Tibbits. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1989. Surviving are: son, Donald (Janett, nee Potter) of Burlington, VT; daughter, Carol Ellen of Stockbridge; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Linsea and Marion Jackson of Holt; brother-in-law, Leland Smith of Dimondale; grandchildren, Christopher, Cynthia and Catherine; and 7 great grandchildren. The family received friends on Sunday, April 28, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. As a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Star Memorial Observance was held at 7:00 p.m. The service of celebration of Clara's life was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, 2021 N. Aurelius Road, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Brooks officiating. In lieu of flowers, please honor Clara with a gift to the First Presbyterian Church of Holt, Memorial Fund, or the Beekman Center in Lansing.
