Raines, Nellie Rose Glasscoe

Lansing, MI

Miss Nellie Rose Glasscoe Raines was born on October 27, 1942 in Benham, KY. On April 8, 2003, the Lord called her to begin her journey home. She graduated from J.W. Sexton High School and retired from the Federal Government on October 31, 2001. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Arthur L. & Inez Glasscoe; step-mother, Aldermease Glasscoe; and infant son, Eric Glasscoe. Surviving are: daughter, Kimetta (Jerome) Raines Moorer; granddaughter, Jasmine Moorer; grandson, Kamarre Moorer; sisters, Jacqueline Glasscoe Carter, Brenda Joyce Glasscoe, Alfrieda Marie Glasscoe, and Deborah J. (Harold) Glasscoe Peters; brothers, Arthur L. (Toni) Glasscoe, Michael (Toni) Glasscoe, Clayton (Nancy) Glasscoe, Marcus (Rachel) Glasscoe, Marion Glasscoe, Dewayne Glasscoe, and Alfred Glasscoe; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, special friends, Eloise Davis, Shirley Davis, Betty Moorer, Sue Gidroz and Pat. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all of her co-workers. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2003 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 5225 S. Waverly Road, Lansing. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Bader, Paul E.

Holt
Age 79, passed away on January 26, 2005. He was born on May 25, 1925 in Flint. Mr. Bader was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific and was a member of Holt United Methodist Church. He retired from the State of Michigan after several years of employment. Surviving are: his wife, Edna “Larri”; son, John Bader of Lansing; 3 grandchildren, Robert Hughes, David Mataya and Alicia Mataya; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Norman Bader. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jody Mataya in 2003, and by his brother, Don Bader. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with The Rev. Lynn E. Grimes officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation in memory of Paul E. Bader.

Bailey, Doris Alta

Lansing, MI

Age 81, passed away on October 1, 2002. She was born in Flint, MI Oct. 6, 1920 to Mabel Eipper Bliss Allen and Milo John Bliss, and has lived in Lansing for most of her life. She was a 1937 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and a 1938 graduate of Acme Business College. She was formerly employed at the Lansing State Journal in national advertising, and at the Michigan Dept. of Social Welfare. Doris was an enthusiastic community volunteer. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Her participation included the church choir, and member and Past President of the St. Paul’s Guild of Business and Professional Women. Doris was actively involved in organizing her high school class reunions for over 25 years, and recently their class celebrated its 65th anniversary. She devoted her life to the preservation of history as a member and Past President of the Lansing Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her many community activities included Life Member of Arbutus Chapter #45 O.E.S.; President of the Opti-Mrs. Club; organizer of the Lansing Community College Faculty League; President, Board member of Lansing Area Parent Respite House; Treasurer and Board member of Rainbow House. Doris demonstrated her love of music as a member of the Lansing Symphony for six years, and through her dedication as member and business manager of the Second Time Around Band since 1979. All who knew Doris will miss her spontaneous smile and laugh, her generosity, and her unconditional love. She was a courageous and loving mother to her daughter, Barbie. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Perry L. Bailey, PhD, and brother, Wendel Bliss, and is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Bailey of DeWitt. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; 218 W. Ottawa St., with The Rev. Dr. Gordon Weller officiating. Interment will be in the Oakridge Cemetery, Marshall, MI following a reception at the Church. There will be visitation at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St. from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; Rainbow Homes, 2111-B, Adelpha St., Holt, MI 48842; Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, Roof Top Garden; 1210 W. Saginaw; Lansing, MI 48915-1999

Shepherd, Marjorie J. "Jean"

East Lansing, MI

Age 73, passed away on July 7, 2002. She was born on February 12, 1929 in Lansing, to Roy E. and Zena (Cahill) Shepherd. Jean retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. She enjoyed quilting and loved to share the quilts with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by: sister, Grace O'Conner; brother-in-law, Ray DeMunck and sister-in-law, Geraldine Shepherd. Surviving are: daughter, Elizabeth (Brian) Burgess; grandchildren, Angela (Mike) Scott and Chad Schroeder; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Vi DeMunck, Joan (Roy) Pitts and Shirley Shepherd; brothers, Lawrence (Barbara) Shepherd, Roy E. Shepherd, Jr., Don (Betty) Shepherd and Gerald (Nancy) Shepherd; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 4444 W. Grand River Avenue in Lansing. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Jean Shepherd.

Bailey, James S. "Jim"

Lansing, MI

Age 47, passed away on June 12, 2004. He was born on November 8, 1956 and has lived in the Lansing area most of his life. He is survived by: his wife, Kelly Bailey; children, Alayna and Dalton; parents, Richard and Marilyn Bailey of East Lansing; brother, Thomas Bailey of East Lansing; all his nieces and nephews who were very special to him, Sasha and Lyah Furney, Jeff Burdick, Adam Bailey of California and William J. Bailey. Jim was preceded in death by: his brother, William R. Bailey. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 855 Grove, East Lansing, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 with Rev. Beth Monteith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his children’s education fund, in memory of Jim.

Stiver, Terry Lee

Holt, MI

Age 50, born on November 3, 1951, in Lansing; went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2002. He was a life-long resident of the Lansing area. Terry served in the U.S. Army, and was employed as a professional painter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Barbara Stiver. Surviving are: his 2 sons, Seth and Joel Stiver; his former wife and best friend, Sue (Aleshire) Stiver. Also surviving are: his brother and sisters, Ray (Judy) Stiver of Port Richey, FL, Betty L. Combs of Lansing, Nancy Hartley of Charlotte, Linda Stiver (John Sciotti) of Tawas City, MI; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with Pastor Robert W. Carpenter officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m., until service time on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his sons, in care of Sue Stiver.

Geyer, Blanda G.

Lansing, MI

Age 84, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2002. She was born on June 14, 1918, to The Rev. Richard and Johanna Bienert. She retired from Capital Savings and Loan, and was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Blanda is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Winfred. Also surviving are: 2 daughters, Ruth (Thomas) Taliaferro of Lansing, Joan (Paul) Kaliher of Naperville, IL and a son, Richard (Donna) Geyer of Lakewood, CO; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew and Michael Taliaferro, Blanda Okamoto Teckla Coeber and Joan Geyer; great granddaughter, Takara Okamoto; sisters, Teckla (Walter) Reich of Naperville, IL and Adelia Weaver of Saginaw; and sister-in-law, Elsie Wallace of Frankenmuth. She was preceded in death by son, Henry Thomas Geyer. A funeral service was held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1601 W. Holmes Rd., Lansing, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002. The family received friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran School, in memory of Blanda G. Geyer.

Baker, Charles E.

Lansing, MI

Age 68, passed away on May 14, 2002 at his home. He was born on January 4, 1934, to Lester and Pauline Baker in Junction City, Kansas. He married Regina Pfeifer on September 22, 1962 and they lived most of their lives in Lansing. He dedicated his life to the catholic church and served the Lansing Catholic Diocese since 1971. He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina. He is survived by: children, Lawrence (Susie) Baker, Stephanie Baker, Anthony (Margaret) Baker, Timothy (Gabriela) Baker, and Clare Baker; and grandchildren, Catherine and Samuel Baker. A funeral mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2002 at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour, Lansing. Rite of Committal was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
