Nowitzke, Carroll G.

Lansing, MI

Age 80, passed away on March 26, 2002. Born January 29, 1922 to Gustav and Maude (Ballance) Nowitzke. He married Irene in 1953 and she preceded him in death in 1979. Carroll was a WWII Air Force Captain, who received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal, while stationed in Burma, India during the war. He is survived by: his brother, Edward Nowitzke; and several cousins. A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, March 29, 2002 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens in the chapel. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., on Thursday, March 28, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Comstock, Helen

Lansing, MI

Age 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2001, surrounded by her special friends and caregivers, Linda Clemons, Cheryl Johnston and Dave and Ruth Barnes. Helen was employed by MRHA for 20 years, retiring in 1974. Helen was very special and much loved person. She loved animals, especially cats, and watching her soaps. A special thanks to her caregivers, Dottie Tyree, Christine Beckwith, and Kristy Wallace. Because of the excellent care Helen received she was able to remain home. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2001 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 7, 2001 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society in Helen's name.

Conrad, Martha W.
Lansing, MI

Age 80, passed away on January 28, 2003. She was born on January 26, 1923 in Lansing. She retired from the State of Michigan and was a lifelong member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She is survived by: brother, Ernest Conrad of Lansing; sister, Margaret Clever of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2003 at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Paul J. Lindloff and the Rev. Timothy H. Buelow officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church in memory of Martha W. Conrad.

Fewless, Raymond Charles

Lansing, MI

Age 87, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2002. Raymond was born on September 27, 1914 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Charles and Margarit (DeBonte) Fewless. He was a devoted family and businessman who loved golf and bowling and was the owner of Fewless & Sons Tire Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen in 1984, following 46 years of marriage. He is survived by: sons, Jim (Susan) Fewless of Lansing, Garry (Nancy) Fewless of Lawrenceburg, IN and Rodger (Cheryl) Fewless of Lansing; daughters, Marianne Reetz of Las Vegas, NV and Kathy (Tom) Hoglund of Chicago, IL; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with the Rev. Garry Fewless officiating. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., on Friday, March 8, 2002 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in memory of Raymond C. Fewless.

Floyd, Mary Jean (Hughes)

Lansing, MI

(Formerly of Fowlerville)

Age 73, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2002. She was born on October 19, 1928, to Joseph and Agnes Hughes who owned and worked a farm. The youngest of 13 children she was raised in an Irish Catholic heritage. Growing up on a farm with this heritage instilled a veracious spirit and work ethic. Married 49 years to her loving husband, Ronald Keith Floyd, they enjoyed raising a family of four children. Preceding her to heaven, were her parents, Joseph and Agnes; brothers, Robert, Russ and Jim; sisters, Dorothy, Pat, Agnes and Julia. She is survived by: her husband, Ron Floyd; sons, Keith (Rhonda) Floyd and Don (Claire) Floyd; daughters, Gwenn (Richard) Hawes and Gail Floyd; grandchildren, Nathan, Nicole, Krystal, Kate, Sophie, Emma and Patrick; brother, Bill; sisters, Ann, Evelyn, Marian and Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. Her strength and spirit will prevail all those who survive her in life. The funeral mass was celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John A. Byers at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2002 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar St., Lansing, with a right of committal in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fowlerville. The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Milbourn, Ambra D.

Holt, MI

On Valentine’s Day, Ambra went to be with her husband John, to whom she was married for 43 years. Mrs. Milbourn was born in Fowler, MI. on December 23, 1923 a daughter of Arnold and Clara (Schafer) Schomisch. She worked as a telephone operator with Michigan Bell. Survivors include her son William Milbourn, daughters; Joann Milbourn and Janice Brokenshire all of Holt, four grandchildren; Shawn, Amy, Chelsie, and Michael, two brothers; Raymond Schomisch of St. Johns and Ron Schomisch of Fowler, two sisters; Marcella Trierweiller of Westphalia and Janette Gladden of St. Johns. Ambra was preceded in death by her sister Irene. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John A. Byers of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at Noon on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. Rite of Christian Burial will follow at Maple Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Stickney, Dorothy K. "Dot"

Lansing, MI

Age 80, passed away on February 14, 2002. She was born on May 30, 1921, in Detroit, and has lived in St. Clair County and Ingham County since her retirement. Dorothy had been employed at Roseville Public Schools as an executive secretary for many years. She is survived by: only child, Cynthia Sue Swanson of Warren; 4 grandchildren, Garrett Bell of Lansing, Warren Bell of Maryland, Kimberlee Kenyon of Lansing and Chad Carmack of Maryland; 3 great grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan and Rachel; 2 brothers, Robert Voelker of Harbor Springs and Richard Voelker of Lexington, MI. A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Monday, February 18, 2002 and from 10:00 a.m., until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Donnelly, Janie

Lansing

Born August 1, 1934. Died on January 24, 2004, at the age of 69. No one who met Janie was unaware of her impish humor and lively joy in life. Though her health was compromised from a young age, she delighted in being out in the world. She loved to travel, even with an oxygen tank in tow. She loved eating in restaurants, for the experience of being out with people. She never lost her keen interest in politics and world affairs, and in her last days, was still watching CNN to keep up with what was going on. She will be dearly missed by her family. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Debbie and Cindy; her siblings, Robert Beckel, Ann (Walter) Kron and Kathy Bailey; nieces, nephews, friends, and her beloved poodle, Maggie. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Edgewood UCC, 469 N. Hagadorn Rd, East Lansing, with The Rev. Karen E. Gale officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 until service time on Thursday. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Fisher, Robert A.

E. Lansing, Michigan

Age 79, passed away on Wednesday, April 30th, 2003. He was born in Birmingham, Michigan on December 18th, 1923, the son of Russell H. and Carolyn Daeschner Fisher. Bob was a Veteran of the Armed Forces having served in the Navy. He graduated from Harvard University and the University of Michigan Law School. He became Senior Vice President of Michigan National Bank and Associate Dean of Cooley Law School prior to retirement. Bob was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lansing, Michigan, serving as lay Eucharistic Minister and Vice Chancellor to the Diocese of Michigan. He was council and Past President of the Ingham County Board of the Great Lakes Division for the American Cancer Society, Past President of the Rotary Club of Lansing, Board Member of The Vandervort Foundation as well as many other community organizations. He is survived by his children Leslee (David Amendt) of Haslett, MI, Robb (Lisa) of N. Richland Hills, TX, and his stepchildren John Root (Ellen) of Haslett, MI, Wendy Jones (Stuart) of Grand Rapids, MI and Barbara Dinning (Terry) of E. Lansing, MI. Bob has 14 grandchildren, including Kyle, Sarah, Cory, & Jordan, and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother Russell (Kaye) of Bloomfield Hills, MI. He is preceded in death by his first wife Marian Louise Fraser and second wife Patricia Root as well as his brother Donald and sister Nancy. Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 5th, 2003, 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 218 W. Ottawa, Lansing. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, 1755 Abbey Road, E. Lansing, Michigan, 48823. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
