J. Wellington Walters, collector

J. Wellington Walters was a collector.

Canes from Africa and South America, cars from Europe, hats and books from all over filled his house and garages in Fort Thomas.

"He had a keen sense of wanting to learn about various topics and a natural curiosity about things, " said his daughter, Jeraldine "Jeri" Jones of Austin, Texas. "When he'd travel, he'd see things and bring them back with him."

Mr. Walters died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was 78.

He traveled extensively because of business; he was president of Kelly Chemical Co. in Toledo, Ohio, vice president of two other companies, and later an industrial representative for Snap-on Tools and co-owner of R & J Tools in Fort Thomas.

Always, he was motivated by a "quest for knowledge, " said his daughter, to explore the things he saw and heard.

His interests were far- ranging, from gardening to animals to history.

His middle name was tes timony to his kinship to the Duke of Wellington, Napo leon's conqueror at Water loo. Other ancestors fought in the American Revolution.

He loved animals.

"Growing up, we could have any animal we wanted, " said Ms. Jones. "Dogs, cats, bunnies, we learned to love them all."

Cars were another love he passed on to his children. For a time, he operated a dealership selling European automobiles in Fort Thom as. Ms. Jones said her first car was a 1957 Austin Heal ey, which she helped her fa ther restore.

"He was a wonderful fa ther. Family always came first with him, " she said. "He was a little bit eccentric. He taught us to think for ourselves and stand out from the crowd."

Other survivors include his wife, Rita Andrews Walters; another daughter, Alicia J. Coyle of Fort Thom as; a brother, Stanley L. Walters of Boston; and three granddaughters.

Mary Eloise Kramer Anneken, 69, of Fort Wright, died at 10:25 p.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jack Anneken, died in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Robyn Mueller of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Michael Anneken of Burlington, John Anneken of Covington, Tim Anneken of Cincinnati, Tony Anneken of Erlanger and Patrick Anneken of Florence; brothers, George Kramer of San Diego and Lou Kramer of Latonia; and 10 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; and American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.

Kirsten LaJoi' Bane, 2 months, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Survivors include her parents, Jennifer Metz of Covington and Edward Bane of Covington; and grandparents, Georgia Bane-Mercer and Christina Metz, both of Covington.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Landmark Cemetery, Glendale, Ohio.

Willie Clarkston, 80, of Verona, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired truck driver for United Van Lines and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bishop Clarkston; a son, Bill J. Clarkston of Verona; daughters, Wanda Cole of Verona and Ruby Hunt of Crittenden; brothers, Eugene Hensley, Hubert Hensley, Eules Hensley, Alford Hensley and James Earl Hensley, all of Barbourville; sisters, Lucille Balenger, Louise Phipps, Myrtle Hensley and Evalen Brack, all of Barbourville; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.

Charles Raymond Daniel, 56, of Brooksville, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired union carpenter in Cincinnati and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Daniel; a daughter, Cheryl Daniel of Brooksville; his mother, Rose Martz of Newport; brothers, Walter Daniel of Florida and James Daniel of California; and a sister, Rose Warner of Cold Spring.

Services will be private. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.

Sister Mary Ruth Degenhart, R.G.S., 83, of Fort Thomas, died at 6 a.m. Saturday at Pelletier Hall in Fort Thomas. She was a cook, arts and crafts teacher, bookkeeper, buyer and driver for the the convent.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pelletier Hall, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Pelletier Hall. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Pelletier Hall, 930 Highland Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Joseph P. Feldman, 87, of Taylor Mill, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. He was a retired machinist with LaBlonde Co. in Norwood, Ohio, and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Virginia Feldman, died in 1988.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Joan McKeon of Hollywood, Fla.; and a sister, Katherine Hoffman of Taylor Mill.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Alumni Association, 3617 Church St., Latonia, Ky. 41015. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Charles Wesley Herrington, 74, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired employee of Weaver Corp., a member of Shawan Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Nora Mae Richardson Herrington, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Charles Arnold Herrington and Randall Lee Herrington, both of Cynthiana; daughters, Beverly Mae Herrington and Rita Lynn Stamper, both of Cynthiana; a sister, Ruth Dunn of Carlisle; a half-brother, B. F. Howard of Flemingsburg; half-sisters, Eva Harper or Irvine and Vivian Harper of Winchester; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Paris Cemetery.

William Lynn Hickok, 70, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a vice president of a paperback company and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hickok of Florence; daughters, Sabrina Conway of Mechanicsville and Tracy Curtis of Florence; a brother, Joseph Hickok of Athens, Pa.; a sister, Carol Mitchell of Louisiana; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Kidney Foundation, 250 E. Liberty St., Suite 710, Louisville, Ky. 40202.

John H. Kennedy, 50, of Bellevue, died Sunday at Bethesda Hospital North, Cincinnati. He was a respiratory therapist with the hospital and Rotherts Home Care, and a member of Cincinnati Cavaliers MC and GWRRA motorcycle clubs.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Combs Kennedy; daughters, Angela Griggs of Bellevue and Jodi Kennedy of Dayton; a son, John "Jay" Kennedy of Newport; his mother, Dorothy Kennedy of Newport; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Edythe M. Kramer, 93, of Fort Thomas, died at 8:10 p.m., Saturday at The Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of Licking Valley Girl Scouts and AARP. Her husband, Carl Kramer, died in 1990.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Noe of Fort Thomas and Marion Wildhaber of Wilder; a son, David Kramer of Fort Thomas; sisters, Gladys Barth of Greenville, Ohio, and Ruth Mix of Frankfort, Mich.; a brother, Harold Schneider of Florida; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Entombment will be in St. Stephen Mausoleum, Fort Thomas. Memorials may be made to the Girl Scouts of America, Licking Valley Girl Scouts Chapter, 607 Watson Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41017.

LaVera J. Luken, 75, of Taylor Mill, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday at her home.

She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Anthony Church in Taylor Mill and the church Fun Club and Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, William H. Luken; a daughter, Barb Stewart of Covington; sons, Bill Luken of Taylor Mill and Michael C. Luken of Elsmere; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Wednesday at St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Helen E. Seiler Lunn, 76, of Erlanger, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger.

Survivors include sons, Mike Lunn, Joe Lunn and Terry Lunn, all of Erlanger, Paul Lunn of Seattle, Greg Lunn of Fort Mitchell, Kevin Lunn of Alexandria and Mark Lunn of Arlington, Va.; sisters, Margaret Heyl of Amelia, Ohio, Catherine Nestheide and Alice Lewin, both of Crestview Hills, and Sister Henrietta Seiler, O.S.B., of Villa Hills; a brother, Rev. John Seiler of Fort Thomas; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Walburg Monastery, 2500 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, Ky. 41017; or Mary Queen of Heaven Building Fund, 1150 Donaldson Highway, Erlanger, Ky. 41018.

George W. "Woody" McMullin, 75, of Ludlow, died at 10:36 a.m. Monday at his home. He was a retired engineer with Southern Railroad and a member of First Baptist Church of Ludlow. He was a deacon with the church, a member of the church choir and active in the church youth program. He was an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Glen Woodrow McMullin, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Rousey McMullin; a daughter, Yolanda Mitchell of Ludlow; a son, David Wayne McMullin of Ludlow; sisters, Virginia McGirr and Shirley McMullin, both of Moreland; a brother, Carl McMullin of Moreland; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ludlow and at 2 p.m. Friday at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home, Hustonville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Ludlow, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery. Margaret Sanzenbacker Mertens, 95, of Southgate, died Sunday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Therese Church, Southgate, the St. Anne Society, Altar Society and Melody Makers. Her husband, Joseph Mertens, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Douglas Mertens of Bellevue; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Dorothy Marie Robinson Privett, 86, of Newport, died Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. Her husband, Alvia Pete Privett, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Ronald V. Taylor of Walton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, is handling arrangements.

Hilda M. Sanderson, 89, of Burlington, died at 2:56 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired caregiver. A son, Jan Sanderson, died in 1977.

Survivors include a sister, Evelyn Gray of Wilmington, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to Tri-State Parkinson's Wellness Center, 165 W. Galbraith Road, Suite 281, Cincinnati, Ohio 45216. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is handling arrangements.

Mary Louise Schmeing, 84, of Fort Mitchell, died at 2 p.m. Saturday at Madonna Manor Care Center, Villa Hills. She was an indexer with the Kenton County Public Library.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Fritz of Florence; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Terry M. Sharp, 39, of Newport, died at 4:56 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a forklift operator with Alliant Foodservice in West Chester, Ohio.

Survivors include his father, Thomas C. Sharp of Highland Heights; a sister, Michelle Sharp of Highland Heights; and brothers, Thomas Sharp Jr. of Highland Heights, Tim Sharp of Taylor Mill, David Sharp of Newport and Jim Sharp of Alexandria.

William Garland Tuttle, 87, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired steelworker with Rolling Mill in Newport, and a former owner of Bill's Mill Cafe, Newport. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include daughters, Jacqueline Rueter of Highland Heights, Patricia Ann Evans of Wilder and Susan Ball of Massillon, Ohio; a son, Charles Earl Tuttle of Crestview Hills; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Wanda Louise Siffel Webb, 66, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. A daughter, Jamie A. Jackson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Eugene Webb; sons, Thomas E. Webb Jr., William Webb, Stephen L. Webb, Joe M. Webb and Shawn L. Webb, all of Covington, and Kenneth J. Webb of Cincinnati; a daughter, Mary S. Burton of Covington; brothers, Dan Siffel of Bellevue, Charles Siffel of Florence and Wilford Siffel of Covington; sisters, Pernell Siffel of Florence, Rosella Siffel of Taylor Mill and JoAnn Maddox of Independence; 43 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Burlington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.

Wayne G. Wegford, 78, of Elsmere, died Sunday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Western Hills campus, Cincinnati. He was a disabled veteran, a member of Disabled American Veterans and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a brother, Wendell Wegford of Alexandria; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Viola G. Werrmann, 86, of Highland Heights and formerly of Fort Thomas, died Monday at Lakeside Health Care Center, Highland Heights.

Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
