William E. Smith, 67, retired from rail yard

William E. Smith, 67, of Covington, died Friday evening at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Mr. Smith, a retired Conrail rail yard worker, was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of Dixie Heights High School.

The youngest of seven children, Mr. Smith loved to tease his older siblings with jokes and pranks, said his brother, David Smith of Taylor Mill.

"He was just a fun-loving, funny guy, " his brother said. "He always was the baby of the family, and we all loved him."

Mr. Smith enjoyed golfing and watching sports, particularly his nieces playing for the girl's basketball team at Holmes High School, his brother said.

Mr. Smith was diagnosed with colon cancer last month and the disease appeared to be in remission before taking a turn for the worse last week. He did have enough time to say goodbye to his grandchildren, David Smith said.

In addition to his brother, Mr. Smith is survived by a son, Bradley, of Middletown, Ohio; five daughters, Amanda and Ashley, also of Middletown, and Pamela Wimlinger, Carol Lightner and Cindy Heaton, all of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Carl Smith of Stockton, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Lee of Covington and Francis Rust of Madisonville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.

Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m.

Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Lovell Marium Adams, 93, of Taylor Mill, died at noon Saturday at Highlands of Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Lakeside Christian Church, Lakeside Park. Her husband, Virgil C. Adams, died in 1975.

Survivors include a son, Robert E. Adams of Taylor Mill; and a brother, Elgin Gardner of Tollesboro.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Lakeside Christian Church, 195 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017.

Kathe Anneken, 53, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Edith Laverne Bauerle, 85, of Covington, died Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a supervisor with Reserve Life Insurance Co. Her husband, Christopher P. Bauerle, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Jean Boroff of Sardinia, Ohio; and a brother, Robert Powell of Fort Thomas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Covington Ladies Home, 702 Garrard St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Ruth H. Dahlhoff, 81, of Covington, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a retired operator with Cincinnati Bell Telephone Co. and a member of St. John Church, Covington.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph H. Dahlhoff; sons, Leonard Dahlhoff of Erlanger, David Dahlhoff of Cincinnati and Dennis Dahlhoff of Covington; daughters, Diane Goetz of Fort Mitchell and Karen Stetter of Fort Wright; and 12 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Conrad Boyd "C. B." Fritz Sr., 88, of Harrison County, died Saturday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Edward Church, Cynthiana.

Survivors include his wife, Wilamina Ann "Minnie" Gasser Fritz; a son, Conrad Boyd Fritz Jr. of Harrison County; sisters, Cecilia Fritz Gasser of Paris, Agnes Fritz Sidles of Bourbon County, Helen Fritz of Harrison County and Elizabeth Moore Klee of Flemingsburg; and two granddaughters.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Church, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Burial will be in St. Edward Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to St. Edward Church, 107 N. Walnut St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031; or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Jo Ann Haines, 64, of Bethel, Ill., formerly of Jonesville, died Friday at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton, Ill. She was a nurses aide with St. Anthony's Hospital and a member of First Baptist Church, Ashland.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer D. Haines; daughters, Geneva Cushing of Collonsville, Ill., and Patricia Lowarance of Bethalto, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Jonesville.

Clara B. Huffman, 81, of Warsaw, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a manager of a King Kwik convenience store.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph O. Huffman; daughters, Louise Ross of Verona, Phyllis Steinhauer of Brooksville and Betty Wolfe of Independence; a son, Wayne Vastine of Millersburg; a stepdaughter, Billie VanHoose of Dry Ridge; stepsons, David Huffman of Erlanger and Ralph W. Huffman of Berry; a brother, Francis Chapman of Florence; 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Aidan Cole Kessler, 2 days old, son of Christy Detmer of Newport and Adam Kessler of Crescent Springs, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Other survivors include grandparents, Debbie Detmer of Newport, and Bob and Paula Clore of Edgewood; and great-grandparents, Jack and Dee O'Donnell of Canton, Ohio, and Alma Clore of West Covington.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Children's Hospital Medical Center, 3333 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Margaret E. Moreland, 76, of Latonia, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. She was a former defense worker during World War II with Crosley Corp., Cincinnati, assembling radio equipment, a member of St. Helen's Society at Holy Cross Church and a volunteer with both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Her husband, Ralph E. Moreland, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Michael Moreland of Union; sisters, Joann Brann of Covington and Virginia Showalter of Paris; a brother, Patrick Malloy of Kenton County; one grandson and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Catherine Noel, 81, of Latonia, died at 2 p.m. Friday at her home. She was a retired payroll clerk with Queen City Metro and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia. Her husband, Carlyle Noel, died in 1980.

Survivors include sons, Lonnie Noel of Ryland Heights and Daryl Noel of Covington; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

William Gregory Rhodus, 54, of Watertown, Mass., died Thursday at his home. He was an economics professor with Bentley College in Waltham, Mass. and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his mother, Virginia Davis Rhodus of Carrollton; and brothers, Mark Rhodus of Shelbyville and James Rhodus of Louisville.

Services were this morning at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Frances Gertrude "Trudy" Northcutt Roland, 71, of Seaman, Ohio, formerly of Walton, died Friday at Clermont County Hospital, Batavia, Ohio.

She was a retired employee of Clermont County Children's Services and was active in Clermont County Senior Services. She was a member of Al-Anon and was a former foster parent and helped run children's homes in Clermont, Adams and Warren counties in Ohio. A daughter, Deana Roland, died in 1975.

Survivors include her husband, Broadus G. Roland; daughters, Saundra June Roland of Felicity, Ohio, Rita Partin of Covington, Shelia Morgan of Peebles, Ohio, Faye LaMoree of Chiefland, Fla., Rose Earls of Bethel, Ohio, Angela Roland and Michelle Harper, both of Cherry Fork, Ohio; a son, Broadus "Buddy" Roland Jr. of Dayton; sisters, Charlotte Morphew of Burlington and Anna Mae Strause of Independence; brothers, Junior Northcutt of Michigan, Eugene Northcutt of Indianapolis and Jerry Northcutt of Crittenden; 28 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tues day at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, P. O. Box 55, Walton, Ky. 41094.

Lena F. Saylor, 83, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

She was a homemaker and a member of Point Pleasant Church of Christ. Her husband, Tommie Edward Saylor, died in 1984.

Survivors include sons, Craig Saylor of Burlington and David Say lor of Cincinnati; a sister, Ruby Sylvester of Anderson, Ind.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Delores Stratton, 76, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Charles Glenn Thomas Jr., 47, of Cincinnati, formerly of Dayton, died at 4:26 a.m. Friday at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.

Survivors include a son, Paul Cooper of Florence; his mother, Dottie Gentry of Aurora, Ind.; sisters, Linda Fryman of Melbourne, Donna Coffman and Diane Saunders, both of Aurora; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Bracken County.

Margaret Wainscott, 84, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.

Leroy Weber, 78, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired electrical technician with Western Union Co. His wife, Mary E. "Becky" Weber, died in 1999.

Survivors include a son, Michael Weber of Villa Hills; daughters, Joy Lee Weber of Somerset, Rebecca "Peachie" Weber of West Covington and Connie Farrar of Villa Hills; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
