Paul Leonard Siemer, veteran, mail carrier

Paul Leonard Siemer, 75, of Villa Hills, a decorated World War II veteran and a 32-year veteran mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, died Tuesday at Woodcrest Manor nursing home in Erlanger after a 15-month battle against cancer.

Mr. Siemer was a member of the Bob White Club, Knights of Columbus and Tin Can Sailors, as well as St. Joseph Church in Crescent Springs.

During World War II, Mr. Siemer served on the USS Samuel Moore, which was stationed in the Sou th Pacific and involved in numerous battles.

Five years ago, Mr. Siemer received a medal at the White House for helping liberate the Philippines.

"He was patriotic before it was in vogue, " said his son, Wayne Siemer of Edgewood. "He was very proud of his military service and attended many military reunions."

Mr. Siemer also was an outstanding family man, said his son.

"He was second to none as a father, " said Wayne Siemer. "I aspire to be half the man and half the father that he was."

Mr. Siemer's wife of 45 years, Florence, died last year.

Other survivors include sons, Jerry Siemer of Burlington and Douglas Siemer of Wilder; daughters, Jennifer Meyer of Edgewood, Judith Johnson of Cincinnati, Rebecca Wesdorp of Burlington and Amy Anderson of Independence; brothers, Phil Siemer of Villa Hills and Tom Siemer of Edgewoo d; sisters, Helen Bouille of Granada Hills, Calif., and Hermine Moran of Fort Mitchell; and 16 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to St. Rita School for the Deaf, 1720 Glendale-Milford Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45215.

Mildred A. Beebe, 79, of Covington, died Nov. 21 at her home.

She was a retired employee of Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Kelly Furnish Women's Auxiliary VFW Post No. 7099, Covington.

Survivors include cousins.

No services are planned.

Harold Franklin "Buddy" Clemons, 72, of Florence, died Monday at Lakeside Place Health Care Center, Highland Heights.

He was a mechanic and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include sons, Doug Clemons of Ryland Heights, Adam Wayne Clemons and Ed Clemons, bo th of Dry Ridge; daughters, Karen Marzano of Erlanger and Phyllis Canady of Greenbriar, Tenn.; a brother, Sam Clemons of Florence; a sister, June Wilson of Elsmere; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence.

Koss Collins, 77, of Glencoe, died Tuesday at his home.

He was a retired concrete plant manager, a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Lou Ann Collins, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Keith Collins and Gerald Collins, both of Glencoe; a sister, Beatrice Atha of Dry Ridge; and a brother, James Collins of Dry Ridge.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ten Mile Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in Napoleon Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Ten Mile Baptist Church or Napoleon cemetery Fund, Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Frances "Honey" Guerrera, 92, of Cincinnati and formerly of Covington, died at 2:40 p.m . Tuesday at Judson Village Retirement Community, Cincinnati.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church, Covington. Her husband, Lawrence J. Guerrera, died in 1994.

Survivors include her son, Nicholas G. Guerrera of Cincinnati; a daughter, Mary Ann Andress of Fort Wright; sisters, May Wetterich and Viola Niebling, both of Cincinnati; and two grandsons.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Church. Visitation will b e from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Prayers will be at 9:15 a.m . Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the new St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Gerald Lee Hopper Jr., 41, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Nort h, Covington.

He was an assembler.

Survivors include a brother, Harold Hopper of Covington; and sisters, Tonia Hopper and Torinda Mister, both of Covington.

Services are at noon Thursday at TLC Cremation and Funeral Service, Covington. Visitation begins there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Ernestine Jackson, 92, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Covington, died Thursday at Ohio State University East Hospital, Columbus.

She was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church in Covington as well as Kenton Chapter No. 40 Order of the Eastern Star, Aleikum Court No. 96 Daughters of Isis, the Covington American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Elks.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Carla Robinson of Columbus.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere.

Ella Louise Mains, 57, of Augusta, died Tuesday at her home.

She was a janitor.

Survivors include daughters, Pamela Woods of Brooksville, Kimberly Sue Plummer of Augusta and Rhonda Sears of Lawrenceburg; sons, Kenneth Tucker of Kokomo, Ind., Richard Mains and Jimmy Mains, both of Augusta; brothers, David Nickerson and Johnny Wayne Nickerson, both of Augusta; a sister, Marcella Bare of Augusta; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery.

Dorothy Steinhaus Maloney, 70, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.

She was a computer programmer with the Internal Revenue Service and a member of Holy Cross Immaculata Church, Cincinnati.

Survivors include daughters, Patricia M. Brake of Florence and Terri Leigh Galarza of Rockville, Md.; sons, Christopher T. Maloney of Dayton, David S. Maloney of Adelphia, Md., and Timothy K. Maloney of Berry; brothers, Edward Steinhaus, Thomas Steinhaus, Richard Steinhaus and Daniel Steinhaus, all of Cincinnati, and Robert Steinhaus of Florence; sisters, Betty McCane, Paula Burgess and Carol Lucas, all of Cincinnati, and Ginny Vires of Florence; a half-sister, Peggy Taylor of Memphis; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Immaculata Church.

Robert Kline Menefee, 82, of Crittenden, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Wilmington Baptist Church and Wilmington Masonic Lodge No. 362. He was a former Farm Bureau director in Grant County.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Pettit Menefee; sisters, Ruth Caldwell of Fiskburg and Naomi Phillips of Covington; and brothers, Kenneth Menefee of Owasso, Okla., Telford Menefee of Fiskburg, Lloyd Menefee of Louisville and Marvin Menefee of Covington.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wilmington Baptist Church, Morning View. Visitation is from 4 to 7:30 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Masonic services will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gardnersville Cemetery.< p> Memorials are suggested to Wilmington Masonic Lodge, Morning View, Ky. 41063.

Walter P. "Pat" Napier II, 53, of Jacksonville, Ind., formerly of Northern Kentucky, di ed Sunday in Jacksonville.

He was a former employee of CSX Railroad, a member of Elks Lodge No. 2605 and Moose Lodge No. 2020 in Jacksonville, and was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Napier; daughters, Tricia and Sherry; four brothers, six sisters and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Orange Park, Fla. Memorials are suggested to Florida Elks Youth Camp, in care of Elks Lodge No. 2605, 5920 Collins Road, Jacksonville, Fla. 32073.

Robert D. Reidt, 74, of Covington, died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday at Villa Spring Health Care Center, Erlanger.

He was a retired auto mechanic with Bond Hill Union 76, Cincinnati, a member of Bellevue Eagles and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Donna L. Reidt, died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Jett of Covington; a sister, Helen Linton of Union; thr ee grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Milford, Ohio.

Memorials are suggested to Diocesan Catholic Children's Home, 75 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchel l, Ky. 41017.

Priscilla Mae Simms, 73, of Alexandria, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thoma s. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Simms; daughters, Kimberly Graber of Claryville and Meliss a Fernding of Cold Spring; sons, Gary Yee of Cincinnati, Gregory Simms and Rodney Simms, both of Alexandria; a brother, Paul Tarvin of Fort Thomas; a sister, Wanda Bell of Alexandria; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at noon Friday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

Arthur R. Smith, 72, of Rio Rancho, N.M., formerly of Southgate, died Nov. 21 in Rio Rancho.

He was a retired Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, a veteran of the Korean War, and a former member of Fort Thomas Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Samantha Sue Lameo of Phillipsburg, N.J.; stepdaughters, Anne Boley and Connie Pohlmeyer, both of Rio Rancho; a sister, Marilyn Smith-Hendricks of Fishers, Ind.; and a grandson.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Santa Fe National Cemete ry in New Mexico. Rio Rancho, N.M., Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Michael A. Sweeney, 83, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Bracken County, died Monday at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

He was a retired tobacco grader with the U.S.D.A. Tobacco Division in Lexington and a member of St. Augustine Church, Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Boothe Sweeney; a daughter, Patricia J. Young of Cincinnati; sisters, Catherine Martin and Mildred Schweitzer, both of Augusta; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville.

Laurie Jo Bennett Taylor, 47, of Florence, died Saturday at her home.

She was an LPN for Baptist Village Care Center, Newport.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Taylor of Florence; a son, Larry Taylor of Erlanger; parents, Shirley and Larry Taylor, both of Florence; and sisters, Cindy Holmes of Arlington, Texas, Susan Bennett of Florence and Sherry Farkopf of Burlington.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until services Friday at the funeral home. Cremation will be in Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Thomas J. Zumbiel, 93, of Crescent Springs, died at 6:40 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was treasurer of the Zumbiel Box Co. in Norwood, Ohio, and an Army veteran of World War II .

Survivors include daughters, Mary Catherine "Mimi" Douglas of West Palm Beach, Fla., Linda Zumbiel of Wilder, Sally Waller of Erlanger and Susan Wagner and Judy Hendrick, both of Union; sons, David Zumbiel of Fort Wright and Mark Zumbiel of Florence; and 16 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
