Robert B. Rogers, 76, was role model for son

Robert B. Rogers taught his son "countless lessons" over the years.

"He taught me how to live, and he taught me how to die, " said Gary W. Rogers of Petersburg. "He taught me how to face death, with fervor and strength, to look at it as a part of life, to be thankful for the years of good health. He taught me how to die with dignity."

Mr. Rogers, a farmer and member of Belleview Baptist Church for more than 60 years, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence of cancer and kidney failure. He was 76.

Mr. Rogers owned and worked his own farm off Ky. 20 in Petersburg, where he raised beef cattle and hogs, and grew tobacco, corn, hay, fruit and vegetables, Gary Rogers said.

He was a deacon, trustee and former Sunday school superintendent at Belleview Baptist Church, as well as trustee of Belleview Cemetery. He also was a member of the Belleview-McVille Fire Department board and Burlington Masonic Lodge No. 264 F&AM.

In addition to his son, Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Wanda Rogers; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Belleview Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Belleview Baptist Church, 6658 Fifth St., Belleview, Ky. 41005 or to Belleview-McVille Fire Department, 6900 McVille Road, Burlington, Ky. 41005.

Arthur Earl Anderson, 94, of Carrollton, died Friday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was a retired maintenance worker with Kawneer Corp. and Ison Brothers Furniture Factory, both in Carrollton, and the retired owner of Green Acres Mobile Home Park, Easterday. He was a member of the Carrollton Moose Lodge. His wife, Dorothy L. Anderson, died in 2000.

Survivors include a son, Earl Wayne Anderson of Moline, Ill.; a sister, Hazel Zimmerman of LaHarpe, Ill.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Bettie Ruth Baynum, 66, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a cook with the Covington Board of Education.

Survivors include sons, Larry Baynum of Covington and James Baynum of Erlanger; a daughter, Shirley Finke of Williamstown; brothers, James McCain of Goshen, Ohio, and Reuben McCain of Grants Lick; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick.

James I. Caudill, 80, of Shelbyville, formerly of Newport, died Saturday at Crestview Health Care Center, Shelbyville. He was a retired educator, school administrator and coach at Louisa High School and in the Hazard City Independents Schools and East Washington School Corp. in Pekin, Ind. He was a member of Bowman Memorial United Methodist Church in Hazard, a past president of the Hazard Lions Club and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Carty Caudill; sons, Dr. Lloyd Caudill of Lebanon, Tenn., Dr. Jim Caudill of Henderson and Dr. Bill Caudill of Lexington; a daughter, Bobbie C. Wills of Shelbyville; a brother, Clarence Caudill of Fort Thomas; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were at noon today at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials are suggested to Jim Caudill Memorial Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 1101, Shelbyville, Ky. 40065.

Jacob Glen Chenot, 9 days, son of Jennifer Chenot and Jason Sizemore, both of Fort Thomas, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include grandparents, Gary and Sue Chenot of Highland Heights and Larry and Kathy Sizemore of Indiana; and great-grandparents, Melvin and Kathline Chenot of Cold Spring.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen cemetery Chapel, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Louis S. Dennis, 68, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired employee of the Ladish Co., a member of Mount Gilead Church and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Merle M. Dennis; sons, Louis M. Dennis of Seattle and Robert A. Dennis of Harrison County; a daughter, Tammy A. Dennis of Paris; sisters, Shirley Moss of Harrison County, Lorraine Paynter of Crittenden and Rita Beckett of Cynthiana; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

John E. Freeman Sr., 89, of Silver Grove, died at 10:45 a.m. Friday at his home. He was a truck manufacturer with Trail Mobile Co. and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Freeman; daughters, Bonnie Coffey and Vicky Schout, both of Alexandria, Kay Gubser of Silver Grove, Vi Downard of Crestview, Brenda Fultz of Crescent Springs and Becky Quinn of Wilder; sons, John Freeman Jr. of Silver Grove, Walt Freeman of California, Bill Freeman of Memphis, Tenn., Rich Freeman of Latonia, and Wayne Freeman of Wilder; 27 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Norma Jean Gibson, 70, of Elsmere, died at 3:40 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a retired clerk with R. L. Polk Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, Buford G. Gibson, died in 1996.

Survivors include a friend, Helen Stephens of Elsmere.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church, 401 Main St., Elsmere, Ky. 41018. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Christine Marie Leick Greis, 90, of Fort Thomas, died at 8:47 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was the retired owner of the Drive-In Market, Newport. Her husband, Felix J. Greis, died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Michael Greis of Fort Thomas; sisters, Coletta Bucher of Bellevue and Alma Ruschman of Camp Springs; a brother, Albert Leick of Camp Springs; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Roy J. Kinman, 35, of Corinth, died Saturday at his home. He was a driver with Bavarian Trucking Co., Walton.

Survivors include his wife, Misty Moller Kinman; daughters, Elizabeth Kinman, Viola Kinman and Emily Kinman, all at home; his parents, Sam Kinman of Anniston, Ala., and Adalene Jackson Kinman of Corinth; brothers, Sammy Kinman Jr. of Corinth and Robert Gene Kinman of Phoenix; and a sister, Mary Jane Kinman of Williamstown.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Jonesville.

Frank W. Laible, 53, of Gallatin County, died at his home. He was a factory worker.

Survivors include his sons, Ian Farrow of Highland Heights and August Laible of Covington; parents, Frank A. Laible and Norma Laible, both of Cold Spring; and sisters, Carol Laible of Cold Spring and Ruth Fries of Butler.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Mausloeum, Fort Thomas.

Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling the arrangements.

Robert Joseph Matteoli, 64, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired plant manager with Bear Medical Systems, a member of Florence Baptist Temple and Bradford Masonic Lodge No. 123, Independence, and a Marine Corps veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Kanatzer Matteoli; a daughter, Robin J. Chambers of Independence; a son, Jeffrey A. Chambers of Independence; sisters, Joyce Ann Menke of Paris and Sandy Richardson of Morning View; brothers, Bill Matteoli of Independence and Michael Douglas Matteoli of Fairborn, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Florence Baptist Temple. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Florence Baptist Temple Building Fund, 1898 Florence Pike, Burlington, Ky. 41005.

Berniece Martin Metzger, 93, of Erlanger, died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Village Care Center, Erlanger. She was a homemaker and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington. Her first husband, Walker Martin, and her second husband, Ryan Metzger, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Martin of San Diego; and a grandson.

No services are planned. Ms. Metzger bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to Mother of God Church, 119 West Sixth St., Covington, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling the arrangements.

Donna K. Morrow, 53, of Union, died Saturday at her home. She was an employee of Ockerman Middle School, Florence.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Morrow; and daughters, Alyson Morrow and Kasey Morrow, both of Union.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Frankfort. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, and after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Anna Irene Pierson, 84, of Owenton, died Sunday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton. She was a homemaker, a farmer and a employee of Fruit of the Loom.

Survivors include nephews, Jerry Wayne Sams of Linwood, Kan., and Tim Sams of Winter Haven, Fla.; and nieces, Maxi James and Wanda Futrell, both of Richmond, Va., and Patricia Hardin and Sharlene McAnally, both of Owenton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219 or to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Elnora Frakes Ratcliff, 83, of Erlanger, died at 4:20 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church. Her husband, George D. Ratcliff Sr., died in 2000.

Survivors include sons, George D. Ratcliff Jr. of Erlanger and David R. Ratcliff of Villa Hills; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Union Baptist Church, U.S. 42 and Mount Zion Road, Union, Ky. 41091.

Frances H. Rippe, 104, of Latonia, died at 4:55 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Her husband, Joseph H. Rippe, died in 1971.

Survivors include a son, Ralph B. Rippe of Arvada, Colo.; a daughter, Bette R. Rauen of Crestview Hills; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Church, 3612 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Joyce Owens Poe Smith, 68, of Brooksville, died Friday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and a foster parent, and a member of Powersville Christian Church and Germantown Order of the Eastern Star No. 425. Her first husband, Kenneth Earl Poe, and sons, Roger L. Poe and Kenneth Ray Poe, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Earnest D. Smith; daughters, Kim Riggs of Brooksville and Patty Cooper of Robertson County; brothers, Thomas E. Owens of Covington and Ernest N. Owens of Brooksville; sisters, Kay Staudermeir of Hamersville, Ohio, Frances Stone of Athens, Ala., Lucille Mineer of New Richmond, Ohio, Ann Poe of Brooksville and Shirley White of Covington; a half-sister, Evelyn Boyers of Georgetown, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville.

Kenneth William Sporing, 57, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at his home. He was a disabled loan officer with First Federal Savings and Loan Co., Covington, and a member of Fort Thomas Masonic Lodge No. 808 and Covenant Christian Church, Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Harvey Sporing; daughters, Christina Kolb of Newport, Amy Shoultheis of Cold Spring, Jennifer "J. J." Tiemeyer of Newport and Samantha Carter of Fort Thomas; his parents, Williams and Eleanora Sporing of Fort Thomas; and 14 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Covenant Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; or to Fort Thomas Masonic Lodge No. 808, 37 N. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Robert G. Walther Sr., 72, of Somerset, formerly of Lakeside Park, died Saturday at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Geneva Ruth Wolfe, 82, of Middletown, Ohio, formerly of Falmouth, died Saturday at Garden Manor Nursing Home, Middletown. She was a retired employee of Dr. Scholl's Shoe Co. and a member of Oakland Christian Church, Pendleton County. Her husband, James Jay Wolfe, died in 1959.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.
