Dr. James J. Kelly, 79, pediatrician, family man

Dr. James J. Kelly was a beloved pediatrician who delivered hundreds of babies in Northern Kentucky.

He had been in private practice since 1951, most recently at the Covington office of Pediatric Care of Northern Kentucky.

Dr. Kelly served as president of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center staff and as a member of the Diocese of Covington School Board, the Redwood School Board in Fort Mitchell and the St. Agnes Church Council in Fort Wright.

He also was an excellent family man, according to one of his daughters, Moira Dietz of Villa Hills.

"We were very fortunate to have him for our father, " she said. "He was a wonderful man.

"He led by example, and I don't think anybody ever heard anybody say anything negative about him. It was all good.

"My father always was inspirational.

"He always said, 'You know you've had a successful day if you learned something new and you made somebody smile.' "

Dr. Kelly, who lived in Fort Mitchell, died Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was 79.

Dr. Kelly was a native of Fort Smith, Ark., who graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1949.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Kelly interned at Louisville General Hospital and did his pediatric residency there.

He also did post-graduate work at the University of Illinois, Cornell University and UC.

Dr. Kelly was licensed to practice in Kentucky and Ohio and had staff privileges at the St. Elizabeth Medical Centers and the St. Luke Hospitals -- all in Northern Kentucky -- and at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati.

He was a fellow of the Irish-American Academy of Paediatrics.

Dr. Kelly served as president of the Covington/Kenton Lions Club and as a member of the Kentucky Commission for Handicapped Children.

He liked to fish, golf and read.

Dr. Kelly's wife, Virginia M. "Ginny" Wasmuth Kelly, preceded him in death.

In addition to Mrs. Dietz, Dr. Kelly is survived by sons, Jim Kelly of Villa Hills, Shawn Kelly of Westerville, Ohio, and Brian Kelly of Edgewood; daughters, Kay Bradshaw of Middletown, Ohio, Angie Lackey of Plant City, Fla., Meg Wellbrock of White Oak, Ohio, and Tammy Barnes of Cincinnati; a brother, Joseph B. Kelly of Carlisle, Pa.; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Redwood School and Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017; or the Covington/Kenton Lions Club.

Jewell D. Gibson Barnes, 80, of Alexandria, died Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a realtor and owner of Barnes Real Estate, Alexandria. Her husband, Howard L. Barnes, died in 1976.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Barnes of Alexandria; sisters, Jannice Rogers and Merle Weatherford, both of Selmer, Tenn., Fay Sipes of Jackson, Miss.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069; or Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Rosemary Bedford, 69, of Cincinnati, died Friday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Mount Airy Campus, Cincinnati. She was a member of St. Vivian Church, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Bedford; daughters, Patricia Griffin, Kimberly Dixon and Shirley Bedford; sons, Raymond Bedford Jr., Leon Bedford, Jack Bedford, Robert Bedford and Sam Bedford; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vivian Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Lavern Bryan, 82, of Ludlow, died Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Doris W. Current, 72, of Cynthiana, died Monday at her home. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of First Baptist Church of Paris and the Millersburg American Legion post. Her husband, Charles Bruce Current, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, James Bruce Current of Louisville; a daughter, Brenda Kate Current Wachter of Harrison County; a brother, Eddie B. Williams of Paris; a half-brother, Henry Lee Williams of Paris; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Millersburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Charles Eugene Dunn, 56, of Dry Ridge, died Monday in Dry Ridge.

Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

Marie L. Schrieber Enzweiler, 94, of Camp Springs, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Camp Springs Fire Department. Her husband, Frank A. Enzweiler, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Ervin Enzweiler and Michael Enzweiler, both of Camp Springs, Wilbert J. Enzweiler of Cold Spring, Franklin Enzweiler and Vernon Enzweiler, both of Highland Heights; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Camp Springs. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Camp Springs. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Church, Box 225, Four Mile Road, Camp Springs, Ky. 41059; Bishop Brossart High School, Grove and Jefferson Sts., Alexandria, Ky. 41001; or Camp Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Box 223A, Camp Springs, Ky. 41059. Margaret Ann Flege, 96, of Latonia, died at 7:10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a retired assistant chief telephone operator with Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Holy Cross Church Church in Latonia. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include nieces, Edna M. Baldwin of Alabama and Peggy Nienaber of Cincinnati.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Church, 3612 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Donnie Henson, 47, of Latonia, died Saturday on Ky. 1053 in Pendleton County in a traffic accident. He was disabled. A son, Donnie Henson, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Henson; sons, Tony Henson of Falmouth, Jerry Henson of Latonia, Michael Henson and Travis Henson, both of Missouri; a daughter, Amanda Henson of Missouri; his mother, Mandy Henson of Latonia; brothers, Jeff Henson of Covington, Mark Henson of Cincinnati and Denver Henson of Latonia; a sister, Selen Sullder of Falmouth; and one grandchild.

Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Floral Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick.

Robert Kendall Hester, 43, of Walton, was found dead in his home Saturday.

Survivors include a sister, Sherri Hanekamp of Mount Olivet; brothers, Mike Hester of Los Angeles and Brian Hester of Atlanta; and his grandfather, Carl Miller of Mount Olivet.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kain and Kabler Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Walton Life Squad, 11 High School Court, Walton, Ky. 41094.

Joseph Francis "Moose" Kuhns Sr., 83, of Fairfield, Ohio, formerly of Fort Mitchell, died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was a plant supervisor with French Bauer Dairy in Cincinnati, a former grand knight of Urbana Council Knights of Columbus Chapter No. 1727 and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Steffen Kuhns; sons, David Kuhns of Centerville, Ohio, Larry Kuhns of Plainfield, Ind., Stephen Kuhns of Woodbridge, Va., Anthony Kuhns Sr. of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Joseph Kuhns Jr., Justin Kuhns Sr. and Christopher Kuhns, all of Cincinnati; daughters, Martha Folchi of Fort Mitchell, Julie Inman and Susan McIntosh, both of Cincinnati; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at noon Thursday at St. John Neumann Church, Pleasant Run, Ohio. A reception at the church will follow services. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242. Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati is handling arrangements.

Hazel A. Lin, 66, of Greenhills, Ohio, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Sunday at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, C. C. Lin; and sons, Brian Lin of New York and Patrick Lin of China.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vorhis Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; American Lung Association, 11113 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.

Daisy W. Shearer Lloyd, 93, of Fort Thomas, died July 10 at her home. She was a retired teacher with the Fort Thomas Board of Education and author of several books, including "Old Lady Wetzel", "Moscow on the Ohio" and "Tell Me, Uncle Bob." She was a past president of Fort Thomas Women's Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Thomas, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a Daughters of the American Revolution Mary Ingils Chapter in Fort Thomas, Daughters of the American Colonists Big Bone Chapter in Fort Mitchell, Lucy Abert Literary Society in Fort Thomas, Dayton Presbyterian Community Guild. Her husband, Reese Lloyd, died in 1999.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Thomas. Mrs. Lloyd bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church, Reese Lloyd Family Fund, 220 S. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Jailynn Sueann Long, daughter of James Long and Mandy Davis, both of Newport, was stillborn Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Other survivors include grandparents, Bev Long of Elsmere, Dana McKenzie of Newport, Jim Long of Independence and Doug Davis of Bellevue; and great-grandparents, Margaret Davis of Lexington, John Fortner of Napoleon, Bill Gross of Bellevue, Alonzo Long of Newport, Juanita Long Newport and Peggy Stewart of Covington.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

Marjorie S. May, 75, of Dry Ridge, died Monday, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown.

Arrangements are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.

Frances Cann Meyer, 90, of Foster, died Monday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Church of Christ, Foster.

Survivors include her husband, Wilford Lue Meyer; a son, Wilford Lynn Meyer of Foster; a daughter, Phyllis Meyer Jones of Falmouth; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Johnsville Cemetery, Foster. Memorials are suggested to Johnsville Cemetery, Foster, Ky. 41043; or Bethany Church of Christ, 4630 Willow Lenoxburg Road, Foster, Ky. 41043.

William A. Redlinger III, 50, of Fort Wright, died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg, Ind.

He was a salesman with Airport Ford, Florence.

Survivors include his wife, Donna L. Redlinger; sons, Louis Redlinger and Joel Redlinger, both of Fort Wright; a daughter, Jilliam Redlinger of Fort Wright; a brother, Sam Redlinger of Indianapolis; and a sister, Beth Cowan of Stow, Ohio.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to the Point-ARC of Northern Kentucky, 104 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Guy Morgan Reeve Jr., 83, of Frankfort, formerly of Owen County, died Monday at Beverly Health Care in Frankfort. He was a retired master electrician with Tube Turns in Louisville, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union in Frankfort and an Army and Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Lora Belle Kemper Reeve, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Guy Morgan Reeve III of Frankfort; a sister, Amy Lock of Owenton; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Squiresville Cemetery, Owen County. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, Ky. 40601-2744. McDonald Funeral Home, Owenton, is handling arrangements.

Martha Catherine Roeding, 90, of Fort Mitchell, died at midnight Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Diocesan Catholic Children's Home in Fort Mitchell and Madonna Manor Nursing Home in Villa Hills. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell and Summit Hills Country Club, Crestview Hills. Her husband, Edward H. Roeding, died in 1972.

Survivors include a daughter, Marianne Carr of Fort Mitchell; sons, David Roeding of Villa Hills, Ted Roeding of St. Peterburg Beach, Fla., Roger Roeding of Lakeside Park, Kenneth Roeding of Edgewood and Stephen Roeding of Crescent Springs; a sister, Alice Roeding of Fort Wright; 26 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Thursday. A reception in the church undercroft will follow services. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Diocesan Catholic Children's Home, P. O. Box 17007, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017; or St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Beverly M. Ruedebusch, 43, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.

Reed Stamper, 83, of Newport, died at 7:22 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired steelworker with Newport Steel, a member of Highland Avenue Baptist Tabernacle in Fort Thomas, and an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Glen Stamper, died in 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Stamper; daughters, Norma Stamper of Newport and Ellen Herald of Wilder; a son, Tom Heiselman of Riceville, Tenn.; brothers, Fillmore Stamper Jr. of Breathitt County and Enoch Stamper of Butler; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Avenue Baptist Tabernacle, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
