Ermaline Staton, 78, was retired county treasurer

Ermaline Staton, Campbell County fiscal director and treasurer under five administrations, died Saturday in Anderson, Ind. She was 78 and had just retired as county treasurer in February.

"She served with five county judges, some Republican, some Democrat. She was always respected for her integrity in handling the county's money, " said former Judge-Executive Lambert Hehl.

Mrs. Staton, of Melbourne, started her career at age 18 as a secretary in a law office. She later became the purchasing agent for Wiedemann Brewery, and she started working for the county in the 1950s as a secretary in the juvenile department.

In 1958 she became the fiscal director for Judge-Executive A.J. Jolly. She handled the county's money as fiscal director and treasurer for Judge-Executives Jolly, Hehl, Lloyd Rogers, Ken Paul and Steve Pendery.

"She knew everything that was going on in the county, and I think she knew everybody, " Hehl said.

She also was treasurer for the Campbell County Extension Service.

Mrs. Staton had been the organist at St. Philip's Church in Melbourne for 38 years. Her father had owned Pete's Place tavern in Melbourne. Mrs. Staton and her sister, Della Kinsella of Melbourne, ran it after their father's death.

"She played piano at the bar after World War II. We'd have sing-alongs, " Mrs. Kinsella said

From the 1950s through the 1980s, the Statons and Kinsellas owned Green Meadows picnic grounds in Melbourne.

"We had big chicken dinners. Erma and Jim had a big garden and we always had country vegetables, " said Mrs. Kinsella.

"Erma could talk to anyone. She really cared a lot about people."

She worked with job training programs through the county, helping young people find jobs.

Her husband died in 1999.

Mrs. Staton learned she had an enlarged heart earlier this year and retired in February. Earlier this month she entered a hospital in Indiana to be near her son, Dr. Thomas Bright.

Survivors include her son, her sister, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Yuellig, made people laugh

Robert Yuellig's sense of humor was so powerful that he sometimes made people laugh just by walking into the room.

"We all knew something funny was coming the minute we saw him, " said Judy Walsh, a daughter, of Hartwell, Ohio. "Even when he was ill, the hospice nurse said he would always keep her laughing."

Friends and family say his humor was an extension of Mr. Yuellig's love of people.
